Horizon Forbidden West - Digital Foundry Tech Review - A PS5 Graphics Masterclass

Resolution mode. Performance mode does not look like that.

Game looks truly breathtaking. I might faint.
Perf mode looks basically the same from up close, the blurrines come from mid to long range.

It's not like perf mode has plants and rocks from ps2 era.

I'm vaguely remember that those gifs are from the gamersyde video that was mostly in perf mode.

This is the shit i missed back in the PS4 area. Everything looks so god dam static. Witcher 3 pushed this forwards big time and made the world so much more alive because of it, the same goes for BOTW.

I hope this gen we will see more focus on it.

It doesn't look anywhere the same.

It is not just the weird blurry Resolution with CBR but the details are all tuned down in Performance mode… LOD, shadows, draw distance, effects, etc are all lowered for that shitty mode.

Using your analogy Perf. Mode has plants and rocks from PS4 era.

I posted a comparison in the other thread. It is definitely a significant change. We need to spam GG's twitter channel with these gifs and request to add that back in. Even if its as a slider. Id rather play at 1800p with hero lighting than at native 4k without.
The feature is there. Here is a comparison with PS4 just to make it very apparent. It also seems the intensity is dynamic as well as you can see the intensity change from when Aloy is outside and when she goes into the building the intensity goes high and then dynamically lowers.

O On Demand , see how Aloy in the PS5 version is well lit in the dark room even though technically she shouldn't be.

Is she not not lit because the 🔥 on the floor? Like she touched something that give damage? After it dim to normal.

Seems like PS4 is missing that effect.

I assume the game has a day/night cycle?
Yes, the first game had too.
40 minutes mades a day cycle in the first game… I don't know if it is the same in this sequel.

PS. Before people says… yes there is fixed events that doesn't change the time.

Have you played tsushima? that thing is basically windy vegetation: the game

I'm pretty sure that you are exagerating a bit.

Many of the gifs\screens that were posted here are from the gamersyde video that is mostly in perf mode.

What the fuck.. any evidence of this?

Even though I badly want to play this game at 60, I think I'm going to have to play this game at 30fps. Most other games like R/C I can deal with the resolution drop as they use great TAA/reconstruction, but for some reason the reconstruction technique used in this game is just really bad in performance mode, making the game look blurier. It kinda reminds me of RDR2 on Ps4, with how bad its reconstruction was.

Here is hoping for a future VRR and unlocked framerate update to maybe get us into the 40s.

I think the issue here is that the main criticism was that the game is to colorful and not the opposite. Some people even said they gave it a colorful art style because it makes rendering easier. Something that I don't really understand after seeing the results. In my opinion it's even more colorful than the first game.

Which is why I didn't really understand your argument unless you wanted the game to look like something like Windwaker.

video games ww GIF
tbf wind waker is the best looking zelda ever by a longshot.

Where are you getting this from? The DF analysis didn't say anything about lower settings in performance mode, just lower resolution.

How do you play a game in standing still?

You know you play games in 30fps exactly like you play games in 60fps.

There is no difference how you play them.

Dude says he wants no visual comprimises. Yet he says the 30fps mode, the one that destroys every little detail when in motion, is the best one.

The irritating thing is it'd probably have looked much better if they'd just gone for 1440p.

That looks great in stuff like Demon's Souls and Uncharted 4 etc.

Are we making up stuff again because we're all out of actual arguments in hope that no one fact checks? Hmmmmmmm?

One aspect that is not mentioned but was mentioned by a 3D developer at Resetera is that the input lag at 30 FPS is ridiculously low - that helps a lot in making it a great mode. He (?) was baffled by how low it is and wondered how GG technically achieved this.
Were input lag numbers posted for both modes as well as the display that was used?

cmon. Let your brain get used to it.
30fps is fine except some games which feel very heavy.
We just talked about this the other day too in regards to input lag in some games like Uncharted 4. The input lag in U4's 60 fps mode is worse than the input lag in KZSF's 30 fps mode.

There is more to responsiveness than framerate.

uc4 I think feels really good. it is just sluggish.
But compare bloodborne to god of war at 30.
God of war is almost uncontrollable lol. it is so delayed. Bloodborne might have some framepacing issues but it is so responsive for 30fps game.

amen to God of War, hated it on PS, but the PC version fixed that and love it there. Same for GTAV, unplayable to me on consoles due to input lag, but on PC its fricken perfect.

I just replayed it on ps5. 60fps mode feels PERFECT. but 30fps mode... I've tried because I finished it like that in 2018/ but it's so slow. I can't believe it ran like that

Some people in this thread don't understand the concept of motion resolution. 60 fps is far from perfect, but much better than 30. You need additional post processing motion blur is you're playing on oled at 30 fps due to the stutter/judder.
