How Are People You Know In Real Life Responding To Xbox One?

Of the 15 or so who saw the reveal not a single one had a positive word to say about it. In fact 2 store owners said they would not bother stocking it if they couldn't sell used games.

Literally all my co-workers who saw it found it horrible.
Just one of them I'd consider a proper gamer. Apparently even casuals were bored to tears.
One American dude of the casual crowd liked having ESPN on there, but his enthusiasm quickly faded once he realized that we're probably not gonna get this in Germany.

So, yeah. PS4.

Everyone I know said they hated it. Basically that, they didn't need another Apple TV/Roku. That they just wanted a console for games.

My real life friends have reacted very positively to what MS showed.

It is to be expected that the internet would respond with extreme negativity.

Non-gamer reaction summary: "Oh, the TV stuff and Kinect sounds cool. But I'm not sure if I'll actually get it."

Hardcore gamer reaction summary: "Considering the anti-consumerness of the XBONE, I'll just get the PS4 this November. Both consoles will get all of the games anyway, and I don't really care about the TV features."

My friend who is a casual gamer watched the PS4 presser and loved it. Watched the xbox presser and hated it.

Edit: My wife thinks their practices are dog shit.

Its a 60/40 split on mine, there are two people who were really excited about all the TV features and how COD looked on it........but wouldn't listen to reason that COD will look the same if not better on PS4/PC so its not a pro for xbox, and that its extremely unlikely that in the UK we will get even half of the TV features

the rest are laughing at how bad the thing looks and how its focus is on TV and sports.

Was watching it at work with some folks, of the crowd here, 2 people had no idea what was going on but didn't like all the TV crap, 1 person said he'd get it day one cause he loves "The Xbox", one man said he'd get it so he can shout "XBOX OFF" when his wife is playing a game to mess with her, and 5 people laughed and said they should put that giant brick next to the Courier and Kin.

Seems pretty split down the middle for my friends, either loving it or hating it. Not seeing a lot of middle ground.

Rough straw poll of the comic shop this morning, around 12 of what you would think would be the core demographic, i.e. 18 – 24 year old gamers. With one exception they all thought it was terrible.

MS have a big job ahead of them at E3.

Not a single person I know at work or on my Facebook have mentioned anything about XB1.

Which is a good thing. The console needs to be a miserable failure!

All of my friends laughed at how incredibly horrible the presentation was and either don't care about or actively dislike all of the features being brought to the XONE.

My friends and I laughed together over the presentation, and none of them are impressed. Even my 14 year old brother thinks it looks terrible.

Relatively indifferent and uninformed. Heard rumors of no used games and always online, but neither appear to be dealbreakers. Without BC there will basically be zero allegiance to Microsoft for those who own 360's (most of the people I know). Happy to switch to PS4 if that ends up being declared the one to get. Interested in learning more about PC gaming ("aren't they like $2,000? Do they actually make good PC games? Do you have to play with a mouse?")

Edit: Conference itself - unimpressed but understanding that games would be shown later. Fantasy football stuff looks cool, but "I just use my laptop now - why do I want to shrink my screen to look at stats when they're right on my laptop? And what else do we get with this NFL stuff?"

Also - "I'm getting rid of cable anyway (in favor of a Roku/Apple TV/gaming console), so that TV stuff isn't so exciting."

I don't really know much about all my real life gamer friend's opinions on the unveiling, but judging by my Facebook lots of people are finding the current jokes about the event funny. I'm sure some of them will be looking forward to everything but the used games malarky.

So far, I've only talked to one friend about it, and he pretty much completely dislikes the system already. I don't blame him since his internet isn't the greatest, so all these "24 mandatory update" stuff is plain awful to him.

I remember seeing a thread on GAF yesterday saying only 20% of reception towards the Xbox One was negative, and the main-stream media was 40% positive and 40% undecided.

I was wondering how this holds in real life, and first thing I hear when I walk into class this morning was my friend talking to our friends (who don't play Xbox and didn't watch the event) about the Xbox One reveal yesterday.

He was positive about it, he actually said this: "Dude did you see the Call of Duty: Ghost gameplay they showed? Hooolllyyy crap it was good." I then asked him to rate the Xbox One reveal from 1-10. He gave it a 10 saying "It was the most advance thing I've seen." Along with "The Xbox One is pratically made for you! You walk in, say 'Xbox, on' and it signs you in! How awesome is that! And you can snap things, play games while you skype with friends!"

He was ecstatic about it, I'm going to talk with the rest of my gaming friends later to see what they think.

So how are your real life friends/family responding? Same way as Internet Gaming forums are reacting, or differently?

(Note, I'm in Highschool and everyone I will get reactions from are probabaly going to be fellow Highschool students)

Have to keep in mind that you're like, 14 years old.

All my gaming friends, about 15 people age 18-22, thought it was the worst thing ever.

I have a lot of friends in the game industry (old co-workers) and most people are pretty quiet about it or just throwing out funny images or comments about it. I know about 10 people that work at Microsoft campus in a variety of positions and most of them are quiet too. Except for one guy who has been in constant defense mode and any time someone posts anything negative he is quick to post a PR quote "we have not announced anything about this at this time" or something else along those lines. He is liking anyone's comment that is in praise of Xbone.

I want to know the reaction from one of my friends who is really anti-sony and plays everything on 360 because of achievements and his friends. I'm guessing he will continue on to get the xbox one even with its negatives over the PS4 but still curious to what he thought.

Most of my closer friends are out of town, one of them really expressed no interest and we didn't even watch the conference yesterday as we were at the mall instead.

Hes more accustomed to Sony as the only consoles due to good history with them and he hasn't had any problems. Hes owned have been previously a PS2, and more recently a PS3. Hes more likely to pick a PS4 since hes like me against paying for Live. He tried out PS+ and thought it was a good service but doesn't like paying for needless subscriptions.

When I told him the name of the console he was surprised, but like I said he had no interest in it to begin with so I think it was pointless to even talk about it to him since he was more interested in the games I was trading in at EB games...

Negative thus far, keep in mind only spoke to about 8 people about it. Not really about the games because lets be honest, they didn't show anything substantial. The media features that MS keeps raving about, there is not one person I know cared for them.

Not... positive. And really, Mexico is Xbox 360 territory, it's going to be interesting to see what happens this generation.

Mostly negative, but I work in a pretty Sony friendly enviroment. Some of the younger guys have their Halo's and CODs on the Xbox, but that's about it.

Even the Call of Duty folks I know were unimpressed with it given all they got was "curves up close, Dogs, and fish moving out of the way".

Shockingly, all but two of my friends/family that at least had a 360 this past gen are not pleased. Many are pro-PC, others going PC/PS4. The two that are interested in the X1 are found of the media capabilities of the X1. One person who's pretty casual comment on the media saying, "How could they think this thing is awesome"?

Bonus: The people that love them some CoD said they thought it was footage from the 360/PS3.

Since I live in Europe, with indifference.

The concensus is that it isn't aimed at them at all , + they dislike kinect and xbox live fees as much as I do.

My friends mostly own a pc as well as at least one console (some only own a ps2 and never cared about this gen either)

People aren't stupid, they know cynicism when they see it.

One of my friends heard about the whole "Kinect always having to be connected" thing, and that was the deal breaker for them. Mind you, he's not exactly a casual gamer, so the general consensus may differ.

OP you need to form ur own opinion, and rely much less on GAF. Most people will like the machine for what it is, a conference doesn't generate sales or do anything for mass market appeal.

Personally I'm reserving judgement for E3, expecting megaton announcements. Still think MS should have done all this AFTER THE GAMES CONFERENCE to generate hype properly.
