How awesome would a Sleeping Dogs 2 E3 announcement be?

Hope it's set somewhere nice and new, I want an open world game set in Bangkok.

...also, there has to be a mission where you have to infiltrate an 10 floor apartment complex to flush out drug dealers.

In a multiplayer environment, that'd be great. Heck... single player too. I'd love to have the option of being able to explore more of the actual insides of more buildings. You could create a fair bit of content with that (I know that my friends and I would be able to find stupid/fun things to do around that, at least).

To be honest and considering how well Watch_Dogs is doing I highly doubt it will ever happen. If Watch_Dogs didn't do as well it would have been more likely to go for a sequel of Sleeping Dogs to boost more revenue. It is more profitable in that respect to go for a sequel of Watch_Dogs as hinted recently than the other way around.

That is how I see it anyhow.

Why, because it has "dogs" in the name?

And it's already happening.

I think you're getting mixed up about a game getting announced versus released. You likely wouldn't see Triad Wars release until 2015 or 2016. Also, I think if you look at the number of fans who have been posting positive reviews over negative reviews (at least on GAF) Sleeping Dogs takes the cake. Sleeping Dogs seems like the better of the Dogs games. I have only played Sleeping Dogs myself and have found Watch Dogs isn't even worth pursuing for me because I'm more picky about where I spend my money on games and what I actually enjoy playing.

I think he thought that Sleeping Dogs is published by Ubisoft.

United Front Games did file a trademark for 'Triad Wars' last year. So maybe it's still set in Hong Kong?

I want UFG to do a Korean, Thai, Indonesian, or Mainland China settings!

Square cannot compete with Ubi on a purely marketing front at this point. I would imagine that is the primary reason Watch Dogs is having so much success right now.

Thing is... it's not just Ubi marketing that game. Sony is helping out too. If Sony decided to do commercials for Triad Wars on TV or promote it through social media then it'd give them a boost.

SE wants to make their games have some sort of online focus like Ubisoft (and every publishers really) so expect some significant changes. I mean look at the title "Triad Wars"? Implies a group at war. Like GTA Online I'm guessing.

They aren't made by nearly the same company, if that's what you're trying to get across. Sleeping Dogs is developed by United Front Games and published by Square Enix, and Watch_Dogs is developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. Apart from being open world crime action games with the word 'dogs' in the title, they don't have much to do with eachother.

Thanks for reminding me and my bad.

Do we have a link for,

Holy fuck. Never mind.

Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars

I'll take any of the following Square-Enix published sequels: Sleeping Dogs 2, Deus Ex 2, Just Cause 3 or Tomb Raider 2. Any of those 4 games being announced would please me very much.

And suddenly I realize that alongside XV I could totally play S-E games for most of the year....

Yup. Sleeping Dogs 2 is called Triad Wars. Fully expect reveal and release this year.

Reveal AND release? That's a bit much, don't you think?

You might get it but kinda not.

Yeah, I heard they were looking into avenues to create some sort of multiplayer version of Sleeping Dogs.

Now personally, if it's like GTA Online where it's a separate mode, or like Watch_Dogs where it's apart of your game world but you can cut it off? Cool.

Don't lock me down into a crappy online-only game and take away the personality and unique story Sleeping Dogs had.

I have a bad feeling that Triad Wars will be a team-based multiplayer game. On their website, they say that it takes place in the "Sleeping Dogs universe" and is something they've "wanted to do for ages." That just doesn't sound like a single player sequel to Sleeping Dogs to me. I really hope I'm wrong.

I mean--the first part sounds like a sequel. The second part sounds like a problem, unless it's just a larger game than the original.

Would be a smart move to show something new from Eidos, I highly doubt we'll see anything new about 15 or KH3. They gotta show something besides Ronan McDougle Souls Suspect.

In Sleeping Dogs 1, our hero Wei Shen stalked and intimidated a spurned ex girlfriend for the sin of leaving him after discovering his infidelity.

In Sleeping Dogs 2 he straight murders her. Wei Fucking Shen.

....Really?

That scene was messed up, and I actually thought Wei Shen was a dick for that.

...And then I read her file and found out she had always screwed around on Triad guys. There was no right person in that situation.

I know they teased a lil about a potential sequel some months ago but imagine Square Enix would come out with a full announcement during E3. For PS4 and XB1. Still set in Asia. Oh my. I can't be the only one who thinks like that.
Day 1. I hate GTA and other GTA-likes, but Sleeping Dogs really got a hold on me!

That whole scenario kind of spoiled me on his character. I never really liked him all that much, but that kind of put him over the edge of "can't really take you seriously as a protagonist anymore" territory.

Can they bring out the guy that voiced Wei Shen, and say "Welcome to E3, Wei Shen is back motherfuckers!"

*cheers and the trailer start playing immediately in the back*

I think the bolded is more important than the rest. The dates as a whole weren't terribly well thought out. I mean, aside from this can you even do that much after the first date?

I reaaaaaaaaally want a PS4 Sleeping Dogs too man, by the time the game was available for free I had already jumped ship to PS4, my most played demo ever.

...In what way, exactly?

In regarding it as anything more than a surprisingly good mid-tier open world game. It had style, it had a good story and characters, good voice acting... but the actual open world game play stuff, the meat, wasn't anything to do back flips over. It had a tiny city with few if any distinguishing characteristics, the driving was typically wonky, I hated the way it would automatically warp me where I needed to go instead of letting me choose between making my way there myself or fast travel. I hated the way weapons magically evaporated after missions, because they wanted to force players to rely on melee... which I probably would have done anyway, because the melee system was really robust and fun. It's just bullshit to eliminate the player's choice. That's anathema to open world game design philosophy.

I love it, played through it three times, I'd love an improved sequel. But some posts in this topic whiff of "OK now that we've spent the last couple of weeks shitting on the latest triple-A open world game, let's do a maypole dance around a more obscure one."

The city was large enough for me to spend upwards of 20 hours exploring and finding everything. It never felt like I was driving for the sake of it because the world was too freaking huge, and the city never felt lifeless or empty. And, the simple fact that it was a semi-accurate representation of Hong Kong gave it a ton of personality IMO.

And if I'm being honest..."player choice" has been holding back open world games for quite some time. Everyone wants to play open-world games like fucking GTA. Why can't we have an open-world superhero game that's not inFamous? "Well because everyone would just go around killing all the civilians and that's bad for their image." Same reason why every Batman game has to have some excuse to empty the city of everyone except thugs.

I'm not sure why people judge open-world titles on the ability to wreak havoc, but it's annoying as all heck. Wei didn't keep his gun because (as it should be in all countries) gun laws in HK are REALLY strict. it'd be better to toss yours and not get caught with it since as a Triad he could get another fairly easy.

I think Watch_Dogs is a decent game. I haven't played much of it, but what I have played I've liked. But Sleeping Dogs, IMO, was just better. I'm not picking it because I want to be a "special snowflake". I'm picking it because I've got my own opinion. Wei Shen was a likable guy--something I understand I won't be able to say about Aiden Pearce--and his universe was one I wanted to spend time in. To me, that's infinitely more important than the most unique, innovative gameplay ever. I realize that's breaking some kind of "law" on GAF, but that's just how I feel.

Sleeping Dogs in Japan would be awesome.

We'll call it Shenmue.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Shenmue as a series was planned to take place mostly in China. After the first game, that is.

And there's one thing I really don't understand: why are people always wanting games with a Japanese setting? Dat Japanese soft (read: cultural) power. Haven't we seen enough games that take place in either Japan or the US? I mean seriously. I want see locations that are anything but Japan and the United States at this point. That's why Sleeping Dogs was so good for me.

What game was set in Japan recently?

One of the most genuinely fun gta-likes I've played, even better than gta4. Would be nice to see a teaser this E3, but I won't hold my breath.

Man that would be awesome if Sleeping Dogs showed up at E3. I loved the first game and its very arcadey controls. I was actually pretty surprize at how interesting the story was. Totally down for a sequel.

Well, I wasn't really talking about open-world games only. So... probably quite a few? My point was that over the years, most games with a modern-day setting in general, have taken place in either the US or Japan. So Sleeping Dogs was a breath of fresh air and I want to see more games like that. I have nothing against Japan as a setting, I just want to see more variety.

If you think I'm whining that I couldn't go on a shooting spree in Sleeping Dogs, think again:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=113917675&postcount=258

When I play GTA, RDR, Sleeping Dogs, etc. I play as an upstanding citizen. But the fact that I *could* go on a rampage but choose not to is important. That's what gives me agency. Sleeping Dogs did away with that to a large degree.

And the guy who posted the PBF, that might have stung more if I had come out of nowhere with my own topic "Things I Hate: Sleeping Dogs Edition". But as I said, I like Sleeping Dogs a lot, despite it having some not so minor flaws, and yes I do hate those.

I'm not even talking about open world game. Give me an example of the last good big budget game that was set in Japan.

And please don't say Tokyo Jungle.

I agree with you that Japan is not really a niche country when you think about game settings, but in this case we're talking about an open world game and I can't think of an open world game which takes place in Japan, Yakuza doesn't count since it's not open world at all.

Mind you for me Sleeping Dogs should stay in China, I'd love to see more Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, it would be awesome.

Maybe we could do cities travel? Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai?

I'm realizing what Triad Wars probably is is a game where you get to pick what Triad gang you belong to: 18k, Sun On Yee, and probably a couple other options based on other real life Triad groups, and you face off against other players who are in other gangs alongside your fellow gang members.

Not something I want, but I'll take it if there's a decent single-player version a la GTA/GTA Online.
