How awesome would a Sleeping Dogs 2 E3 announcement be?

I'm not even talking about open world game. Give me an example of the last good big budget game that was set in Japan.

And please don't say Tokyo Jungle.

Yeah, I was talking about gaming in general, not only about recent titles or open-world games. Of course old games count too. And it's not like settings outside Japan and the US have replaced Japan in big-budget games, as during last gen we got even more US-centric games, with modern/near-future setting. So overall, it used to be about Japan and the US, and now even more about just America.

... Now that I think about it, really big-budget games that were developed in Japan, are usually set in the west. But even then, my original point was that there are more games (old and new, big- and mid-budget) that take place in Japan, than pretty much anywhere outside Japan or the US, combined. (And to be more precise, I'm talking about games that were released in the west, so most Chinese, South American, Russian, etc. games are probably not included.)

But I also believe (and hope) that in the future, we'll see even more games that are set in China/India/other emerging countries, and I hope that they'll release them in the west too.

I was LTTP on Sleeping Dogs, but man that game was good.

I remember when I first saw screens for the first sleeping dogs, it was really impressive. I played through most of it and pleasantly surprised. It reminded me how there could be a Shenmue 3.

Now the word out in the masses is that the graphics will be possibly superior (even more so than Infamous 2nd Son). It's exciting and we're not even close to finishing up the first year of these next gen consoles.

Interesting if true, but...we looking at Hot 97 for information on games now? That's what's popping in the streets?

Skipped Sleeping Dogs because it irked my how an undercover cop could be so brutal. It didn't make sense, hopefully in the next game in addition to taking them out like a cold mutha fooker you can also just take them down without killing them. I really want to play a game in that setting so please don't let cognitive dissonance ruin my experience this time as well.

One of the huge subplots in the game is the way acting like this cool motherfucker in front of the triad is affecting Wei Shen. Hell one of the big points is Shen actually using his gun and shooting someone so that the triad would believe him.

So I'd say give it a try!

Ive got the first game just sitting in its wrapper still.
Really need to break that open and give it a go. Game looked awesome.

err I still think in that kind of a game playing a cop you shouldn't be forced into becoming a psycho murderer. Shit would make Kratos flinch. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta being undercover an all but when you put the control in players hand you have to give options to subdue. It's like Batman using an automatic or infamous only having an evil style. Just wouldn't feel right so I wanna see the sequel correct this.

When the game first came out, it was the only game I had finished in like 2 sittings. The second I saw the final cutscene was over I went back to the main menu and started all over again. I'd be very happy if they showed off SD2 at E3.

You do lose cop points (needed to level up your cop meter) if you do reckless missions and stuff. Not sure if that helps. Wei is really only a psycho when it comes to bad guys. Also the game implies when he fights people it's not to the point of death.

It's not trying to be inspired by real life. It takes it's inspiration for the world from HK/Thai action flicks, that's one of the reasons why many of the unlockable outfits are actually homages to famous HK and Thai action/Martial Arts films. There are moves like jumping off your moving bike and shooting it to create a bomb that has no real application other than it is something that looks really cool, willfully violating the laws of physics when jumping from one moving vehicle to another, how the cars of enemies react when you shoot their tires, or how the violence actually turns into black comedy for the protagonist in some of the later parts. The rules of what is believable isn't comparable to what would be believable in real life as it is based on fictional world of gunfights, special effects laden explosions and elaborate fight scenes that are all not possible in real life.

This isn't true at all, here is a list of some possible actions:

Smashing a persons face into an AC fan and holding it there as it turns their head into a bloody pulp, using a table saw against their face, beating them with a payphone, dropping a car engine onto their heads, forcing their upper body into an industrial furnace until they catch fire, feeding their body into a grinder, impaling them on meat hooks, or hanging a guy; are just some of the ways that Wei can dispatch his foes.

There are of course, more merciful ways to dispatch them, like throwing them into a garbage can, or dropping them on a pile of boxes, or simply beating them.

SD was a really great game. It was gorgeous, very fun, and lean -- truly a sleeper hit. Going through the entire game was a joy, so I'll be there if a proper sequel is released.

I loved Sleeping Dogs. One of my favourite titles of last gen.

Would love to see a sequel set somewhere like Shanghai, or Bangkok.

A couple of little things bugged me in #1 that I would like to see improved/fixed:

HK felt under populated. Sometimes the streets would be almost dead empty with pedestrians. I am hoping the next game the city will be more dense.

The car handling (for me) was the biggest complaint. The cars, especially the bikes and sports cars were way too loose and had no real control. I am not saying SD2 should have GTA 5 handling, but anything would be better then the originals.

Lightning effects during a thunder storm.

More public transport. I used to love riding the train in Mafia and just admiring the city, and would love to see more ways to get around the city. There were buses in SD but you couldn't ride them.

Honestly though, they could just re-skin the original with no changes and i would still buy it day 1 :D

Frankly, Sleeping Dogs 1 on a high-end PC is more next-gen than most next-gen releases. Wouldn't blame them for revisiting the well.

My buddy brought over Watch_Dogs on PS4 and he actually brought up that he still thought Sleeping Dogs on my rig looked better. We tested them and in a lot of ways it is certainly true (SD is so detailed).

Anyway, back on topic, I would absolutely love another Sleeping Dogs game.

Would be fun if its announced as console exclusive just to see the fallout. Bonus points if its a single console. Extra bonus if its mmo f2p.

What if that's the Xbox exclusive gamespot is talking about?

My hand would be forced and I would have to buy an Xbox One. But SE wouldnt do that would they?

FF15, KH3, Battlefront are all announced so right now I think it is my most anticipated unannounced game. I really enjoyed the game. All of the content. Loved the story. I want them to make things more expansive but I think people will complain. And please continue the tradition of no crappy minigames

I want more karaoke.

Went back and played Sleeping Dogs last night because of this thread. My computer (Macbook Retina 15") could only handle 1080p medium settings, but it still looked gorgeous. People that played the PS3 or 360 version should really give the PC a shot if they have one to run it. Its so cheap during steam sales.

I just bought this game in a $5 sale 2 weeks ago, so I'm very LTTP and about halfway though I imagine. Wow, I missed out!

This game looks better than Watch Dogs with the HD texture pack applied for sure - at least in my opinion.

VERY fun game! Color me impressed!

So maybe once I finish this one there will be concrete info about #2...

I want more karaoke.

I didnt mind the karaoke. Forgot about it actually. Its only mandatory one time, right? I dont know if you even have to perform well during it. But I did all of the soungs anyways. The phone locating and lock picking were quite easy as well. T

it will be second best after beast souls to me, game was one of my favorites last gen

i love my asian action/kick ass movies, i just imagined that it was Flash Point with Donnie Yen. epic shit if you ask me

Really liked the first Sleepy Dogs. On PC it looked and played amazing. United Front really delivered and hoping big time for a sequel.

Loved that game
Had its own
red wedding
I think it was also my favorite driving as well

Every open world game since then I've been trying to do a wheelie on a bike off the back of a car into the air, it's the only game that allowed it.

The entire time I've been playing Watch Dogs I can't help wishing that I had a better melee system. Then I wish I was in a crazier city than Chicago. Then I wish I had better slow-motion abilities. After reading this thread, I just wish I had Sleeping Dogs 2.

This thread reminds me now that I have a US PS3 I can finally beat the fucking game. Was so pissed off the reversal of X and O with the usual JP vs US bullshit is what prevented me from completing that mahjong mission thing. They supposedly patched that issue, but I never went back to check and totally forgot about the game.

Was a fantastic game totally dug everything till that one fuckup.

RDR had something similar with the poker game but you could sorta fub around it and get past that point.

If theres one thing that sony needed to do is put in a goddamned option for X / O functionality in the system settings. Seriously. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have made 2 different functions for JPN / US regardless of the cultural understanding of X and O needs to be tarred and feathered.

Not in my eyes. Deleted the sleeping dogs demo after 30 minutes from my pc had no desire to buy it, have put about 20 hours into watch dogs so far. Best game of new gen so far for me.
Would much rather see a tomb raider sequel then sleeping dogs 2.

What made you delete the demo? General lack of interest or did you find something wrong with the game?

The gameplay just didnt grab me. For me open-world games are all about exploration and I didnt get the sense that was a strong suit of sleeping dogs.

Fair enough. I would have enjoyed that as well. I would like it in the sequel but I fear it would turn people away because it is overwhelming for them. I liked the gameplay. Particularly because most of the game puts a nice emphasis on melee combat which feels great to me.

So where's Triad Wars.

Personal note from me: Do not make jokes about non-existant triads such as Sun On Yee or 10K when real triads are sitting next to you in the bar. Avoids trouble, especially if your Cantonese is very basic. lol
