How could Microsoft knock it out of the park this E3?

Ability to chain 2 Xbox Ones together to create a 2.4 TF gaming console, using the HDMI-in of one console + price drop to $350 or less.

For the people who want Kinect to be dropped, you do realize getting rid of the camera doesn't make the console better but worse right? How would they be knocking it out of the park with such an announcement? Especially for those of us who already own an Xbox...

To knock it out of the park at E3 they have a great deal to do:

- Drop Kinect
- $299 pricepoint
- 5 new AAA ip's
- Halo 5/Gears of War 4/Forza Horizon 2
- 5 HD remakes + GTA5 timed exclusive
- Cloud service similar to Playstation Now
- VR device launching this year + 2 VR games announced
- 3 months free Xbox Live with every new console sold

but we all know none of this is likely to happen.

Your competitor would have to balls up big time as well, and based on track record unlikely to happen.

On the other foot, how would Sony's conference look as a comparison, not having to go that extra mile, just re-affirming most of what they have announced to date:

- $399 pricepoint, no change required
- 2 or 3 AAA's announced, likely
- Uncharted 4, Order 1886, Driveclub, Destiny gameplay
- Uncharted HD, Last of Us HD and GTA5
- Playstation now launch date
- VR demo's
- Indie demo's
- Some PC exclusives (Day Z, Star Citizen etc)
- Final Fantasy 15, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Last Guardian update

Triple down on Kinect!
Every MS exclusive with heavy Kinect feature that will blow our imagination, make everyone feel cannot live without Kinect.

Price drop and exclusives, exclusives, exclusives
And big ones too. Any exclusive won't do they have to be exclusives you can not miss

Lots of exclusives. And none of that paid for crap, that just irritates me. They need to open up their own studios.

Also, a large, official price drop and a kinectless sku.

And the removal of the paywall from everything where it's clearly a ridiculous concept.

And a promise that their ridiculous drm measures from before will never affect the Xb1.

But they won't, so it's all moot.

For the mass market:
- Lower price than PS4, LOWER
- MP goes free (XBL can still exist to serve GWG and the Netflix gate)
- NEW 1st party IPs that diversify their portfolio. Eg not just the next Halo

Microsoft needs to have more triple A big budget exclusives than Sony. Most of that needs to be original IP. I think that wins it coupled with a price drop.

Im thinking at this point the ball is in Sony's court...MS basically just has to do better than Sony, which is one hell of a tall order to fill.....although if Sony has a new Crash game in their pocket its all over

Going for free multiplayer would go a LONG way towards helping them, for sure.

They have so many great Rare franchises, and they do so little with them. Killer Instinct was a great start, now all they have to do is keep it going with a new Banjo, or Conker, or Viva Pinata, or even a gritty It's Mr. Pants reboot! (Maybe not that last one...)

If they have a conference similar to last year's, I'll be fine : all about games, with many surprises.
I suppose a price drop is required for their business concerns, but that doesn't really need to happen at E3.

I think it'll be the indies that will blow our imaginations when it comes to the Kinect. They are the ones willing to be a bit more adventurous.

I think people should wait and see if Indies start to toy with it before they start calling for its elimination.

Speaking of the German market, I'm not sure what they can do, honestly. They won't win back consumer trust by making it cheaper and that lack of trust is what's hurting them the most right now. It's not the lack of games, it's not the useless mandatory peripheral, it's not being underpowered while costing more (though all of these are important factors). It's that people have no reason to trust MS. I really think this generation has already been decided and the mindshare is with Sony.

But well, since it's impossible to change that distrust consumers feel towards MS in a day, their best bet would be to start building up goodwill again. Ditch Kinect, ditch the Gold subscription, make it 100€ cheaper than the more powerful competition. Give out free shit, make it clear that you're distancing yourself from any sort of surveillance bullshit, no DRM etc etc.

Won't happen, obviously, but my point is that they'd need something of this magnitude to get back in the race. Otherwise, they're fucked.

honestly they just need to do more of what they did last year. you know, minus the whole DRM PR spiel. I actually thought their E3 presentation last year was better than Sony's from a games perspective. they made an effort to show a wide variety of exclusive content and as long as they do that again they should be fine

So Sony is currently leading in sales, is cheaper, and just announced VR. MS has one hell of a mountain to climb, so what to you could make MS knock it out of this park this E3?

-Exclusives, exclusives, exclusives.....and I dont mean paid exclusives, or exclusive content, or timed exclusive, or also on PC. I mean exclusive only on XB1
-Rare game that isnt Kinect related.....basically letting Rare do what they want...would be a great cold opener with a new Banjo Kazooie or something
-Sunset Overdive basically being the next Crackdown...or hell a new Crackdown would be cool
-A Watch_Dogs 2012 moment where a game leaks only the title, and literally nothing is known about it....a "One more thing" moment so to speak where a game just comes out of left field and blows everyone away
-$100 price drop or $150 drop with Kinectless SKU

I think these are all things to make a great conference, but I don't see it effecting Sony much tbh.

Sony now have Vita, PS Now, PS4, TONS of games still to cover (they haven't been blowing their load announcement wise/info wise like MS), VR... I just don't see MS being able to match any of that.

I can however seeing MS MAYBE announce Kinectless SKU, and MAYBE announce the heavily/long time rumored AR glasses. Other than that, I wouldn't expect them to really blow anything out of the park other than announcing some new cool games/exclusives. One thing is for sure though, Sony has put MS in a greta position to be clawing their way out of the hole, and I'm excited by the possibilities that this brings...desperate MS is a good MS for consumers.

They should follow the same formula as last years when it was purely about games. They won E3 2013 in my eyes because of that and if they do it again then they'll be fine.

The only homerun strategy is to money hat major exclusives, not just timed. Imagine exclusive FF15, COD MW4, The Crew and etc. Obviously, not going to happen since it's way to expansive. All other strategy offer so far just slows down the cracks, but at some point the dam will still break.

If I was Microsoft, I will just accept screwing up, being 2nd and plan from there. This gen be as profitable as possible and retry in 4 years.

I don't know why people cling to this, and I'm not talking about Rare making non-family styled games, but they're not top tier anymore. Even if they go back to their roots, I don't see them making great games anyways. Their talent wouldn't stay all this time to make the type of games MS tells them to make. The only great thing about Rare is their name pedigree of the past.

However your post otherwise is on the money
- tons of exclusives (actual exclusives for X1 only)
- Kinectless SKU, overall price drop
- the glass thing they've been working on

playstation is so far up ahead. ps+, playstation now, morpheus virtual reality, etc.

for ms to match those, they'd have to have something planned in the first place. seeing that their initial vision did not come into fruition, whatever they've been planning had to be scrapped or they'd really not take out kinect. they have ar plans, right?

My personal feeling is that they wont do this either, rather, they'll double down on all the unscrupulous shit they already do in order to wring money out of the smaller userbase they'll have.

However, if MS actually did major and significant stuff that looks like they're leaving that behind, I would actually be genuinely impressed. Like if they removed all the media shit from behind XBLG and added features to the subscription that actually improved its value, it would at least get a raised eyebrow from me.

I think for a lot of people MS are beyond the point that they can get out of their current situation just by announcing lots of games. It's virtually guaranteed that Sony is going to have a stronger games lineup than MS this year, so whatever games they do announce, Sony is going to overshadow them if that's all they have. Sony clawed their way back to #1 by doing more than just releasing good games, and MS need to do the same.

If they could magically add Xbox 360 backwards compatibility it would definitely knock it out of the park for me.

Other than that, give the core gamer a reason to care about Kinect. (I think dropping it would be a big insult to early adopters). Price drop + exclusives.

A wide variety of exclusive IPs. We all know that the Xbone will have shooters aplenty. I'd really like them to show us an RPG like Lost Odyssey.

i agree with all that. if that all happens i'll be ready to buy an xbone. it'll still be a while before i would though, just becasue it would take a year or so for those "exclusives, exclusives, exclusives" to actually be released. and seeing as that would be the only reason to pick the console up for me (i have a superior means to play multiplats), it's kind of an important element.

i'd basically be where i was last year with the wiiU. it had dropped in price enough to entice me, but i still needed to wait until it had a healthy bank of exclusives before it was worth buying, because ultimately, the second and third consoles are being bought exclusively for the games you can't find anywhere else. so the more of those there are, the better.

Are we talking about pleasing GAF members, or your average gaming crowd? Microsoft has a good stream of games I want to play from launch till now. If they keep this up I think a lot of the holdouts will jump in. They really really have to deal with the price issue.

Bring back the guide. Gears of war progress report show why its will be awesome. Get Cliffy to come out for this and approve of it.
Show Destiny and show why Bungie still loves the xbox fans.

+ Lost Odyssey 2
+ Dino Crisis 4
+ New Conker game
+ Day Z for console (Or something similar with higher production values and dinosaurs )
+ LoL for consoles

They're most likely backing the next State of Decay (possibly MMO). I want that a lot more than Day Z.

They should have a lot to show, so I'm not too worried. Looking forward to Horizon 2, Quantum Break news/gameplay, and hopefully a surprise announcement from RARE (or at least an old Rare IP returning with some studio like Killer Instinct)
