"It's definitely the most destructive power Superman has," says Johns. "And he's not exactly excited about it because it is so dangerous and there are consequences."

Johns says that the power will be unveiled in the finale to Superman #38, calling it "very unstable" and something "Superman's going to have to deal with for quite a while."

Between the new power, the new costume and the new mindset Johns says Superman #38 will bring, Johns says it'll send the Man of Steel "in ways that we haven't seen in a long, long time."

"[This] just fundamentally has the character asking certain questions he hasn't asked himself and experiencing certain things he hasn't experienced."

Geoff Johns Superman run has been pretty much the best thing to happen to mainline continuity Supes in a while.

I'll trust him since he has managed to make the 500th "New Superman teams up with Superman turns out to be evil" storyline actually relatively interesting and entertaining.

Gonna guess it's the sort of stuff the other dimensional creatures have been using

Sentry Supes gonna get the power of molecular rearrangement. And then choose never to use it because he can't control it responsibly.

It's not as stupid as it sounds, honestly.

Besides. The "supes is OP" thing hasn't really rung true for a while, outside of the non-DC reading audience.

I never really keep up with comics, but i'm interested, what's been up with him in the new 52 comics?

Superman has almost died like 6 or 7 times in the New 52.

If anything I've not really felt Superman is all that powerful. I mean, this is a world where Batman has bested Darkseid twice and survived runs to Apokolips and the GLC just had to rescue the New Gods.

Supes has been relatively weak, and I'd argue Wonderwoman has done more world saving in their book than he has.

Yeah, issue #34 was the best Superman issue in a while.

And plus, why the hell do people care about how "interesting" he is anyways???

Just tell good stories, that's all it matters.

In John's run?

He met another superman-like that is kidnapping civilians under a false guise of peace to an alien space ship to be used in a sacrifice. The last issue I read he got the humans back home and the alien world blew up because they didn't get the "life essence" they needed from the sacrifice. Supes and the Superman-like were about to have a showdown

In general?

He's pretty under powered. Although there is that one page in action comics that showed him benching the world for 3 weeks without sunlight or rest, in general he's been pretty grounded compared to pre-52. He got his ass handed to him by another Kryptonian, (H'el) was losing a fight against Zod, Helspont kicked his ass. One positive thing I remembered is he handled the new baddie in Superman Unchained pretty damn well.

Both his parents are dead, Lois is with another guy, he's massively friend zoned and is constantly doing awkward hugs with Lois even though he's actively dating WW. He isn't working at the planet anymore because it was taken over by a media conglomerate and didn't like the stories he was running (he was doing investigative journalism instead of headline pieces).

So yeah, he could actually use a new power or some sort of power increase.

I hope the consequences have a direct effect on his health, similar to Spawn using his hellfire. Maybe Superman's overall strength declines each time he uses it. Maybe it makes his dick stop working. So he's making the ultimate sacrifice each time he uses it. The new power, not his dick.

They just did that more or less.

He got infected with a Doomsday Virus after killing Doomsday. He would sap the life energy from any living thing within a certain radius so took off into space. He sort of fought an internal war between Clark and Doomsday for control of Supes body. Whenever he gave into Doomsday he became way more powerful but lost control and kind of became a monster (i.e. Hulk) and sapped power from people.

Totally not a coincidence that the writer had just left Marvel where he had written World War Hulk.

Then it turned out to have been a giant swerve by Brainiac.

It wasn't a very good run, but had some nice fan service throwback moments in the big Comics! ending

Agreed.

Honestly the people complaining about how Superman is basically god mode should read the run. If it doesn't make you like Superman...nothing will.

His dick stop working? I need to avoid spoilers until I catch up on Superman, but good to hear!

Perhaps I can finally see the long-anticipated comic debut of the Cellophane S?

We need to talk about Aquaman more.

Great hero or greatest hero?

Black Mantis is from Atlantis. He wears a helmet because reasons.

Arthur is the best leader of Atlantis because he doesn't know shit about their customs and stuff. Fuck that shit he's bringing in Taco Tuesday!

Reboots are totally old now. I hope this Superman power just takes us back to 70's blue Batman land.

Deboots are the new black.
