How do you make Superman more interesting? Give him more powers.

Snyder gave Superman a new power in Superman: Unchained, that he learns from the antagonist of the book, but I can't for the life of me remember what.

Geoff Johns is one of a small handful of people left at DC that know how to write Superman, so I'm not worried at all.

Also, Diana is the truly anime team member.

Nothing says "Anime as Fuck" like limiter removals.

Piccolo Woman

Re: The title.

No.

Literally the opposite.

Give Superman more weaknesses.

It's fucking boring how he's magical and perfect except for this green shit. More weaknesses = more dramatic binds to get into = better stories.

Then he wouldn't be superman would he? Also LOL at thinking that superman or any character getting into binds is the only way to write interesting stories

This complaint is hollow and a go to nowadays for nearly anyone who dislikes Superman. He is meant to be the best of humanity. Someone who is practically selfless and struggles daily with his immense responsibilities. Finding good stories within that construct shouldn't be too difficult.

Perhaps I can finally see the long-anticipated comic debut of the Cellophane S?

I want desperately for it to be this, and I want Superman's internal conflict to be that, whilst it is the most effective non-lethal method of neutralizing a foe, he feels embarrassed and silly using it.

As someone who finds western comic books daunting and confusing to get into, is the new 52 a jump in point? Can I pick it up and read without the baggage of previous runs and it make sense?

Limiter removals are so fucking cool. There's never a time where a limiter remover isn't cool.

Never.

As has been stated in this thread, Supes has spent the better part of the reboot getting his ass kicked. He's really not that strong anymore.

Costume S stands for Superman... the house of El... or "hope."

Cellophane S stands for Shame.

Super powers don't make a character interesting; it's the story, characterization and writing that make a character interesting.

Really getting sick of the "I don't know anything about Superman but he sucks because of some misconception that has been passed along but I refuse to acknowledge what is said to me about Superman and the reality of the character and his stories just because I like to say he sucks" nonsense.

I never really questioned it before but does Hulk see this much hatred? That character is the personification of "over-powered". I don't bring him up because he's Marvel. It's just the closest similarity I can think of that's not named Sentry.

Hulk is generally thought of as a rampaging monster though (Dr Hulk or whatever the grey-skinned duder is aside)

Yes, there is only baggage on Green Lantern and Batman, but you have access to Wikipedia and the Internet, so this shouldnt be a problem.

The threats scale to his power level. Nearly everything he faces is theoretically capable of killing him. It's not like he uses all of that power to chase the riddler or something.

maybe it will be to convert his body to energy. I remember there was some sort of alternative universe superman buddha who could do that pre Nu52

I mean he's been kind of weak this whole reboot, I wouldn't call his stories more interesting and I don't see them selling any more than they used to.

What's made Aquaman and WW a good read for me versus Supes is that they actually have interesting side characters that they open dialog with. Mera for Aquaman and the greek pantheon for WW. I don't think Diana's ever been in any real danger so far in the stories I've read but she's still more interesting than supes. Out of all the JL members in New 52 I think supes got the short end of the stick by far in solos (honestly probably worse than Cyborg and Shazam not having ongoings).

He's pretty under powered. Although there is that one page in action comics that showed him benching the world for 3 weeks without sunlight or rest, in general he's been pretty grounded compared to pre-52.

i find this funny.

Captain America does it.

Considering one of the best Superman stories (All- Star Superman) featured him getting a major power increase and immunity to kryptonite, incorrect.

yeah but in All star it was killing him.... Then again maybe that is the twist

Yeah thats the guy. I remember reading it and thinking I hope they follow that idea about superman's powers someday.

They were doing something like that with Superboy, And his tactile TK. But than they dumbed him down.
