How important is backwards compatibility on the PS5 for you?

With every generation it becomes more important simply because the improvement become more subtle. I wasn't interested in BC with the PS1, PS2 or PS3 but with the PS4, I want BC. Some PS4 games are going to look better than third party PS5 games.

Not important to me, but I will take advantage initially and pick up a few games second hand to go alongside demon souls. If they weren't there though it's no big deal, I have a PS4 anyway, just means one less thing by the tv.

My sister was going to buy an XSX, but backwards compatibility with ps4 games made her change her mind and choose the ps5 instead, so really important i guess.

To be honest I don't give a flying fu*k about backwards compatibility. If it's there good, if not I don't really care. Whatever I want to play I can play it on its proprietary console. If I buy a new console I care about good new games.

and i have no idea what that means, assuming an insult. I know who Charles Barkley is though.

You could have just googled "charles barkley predictions" and knew exactly what I was alluding to. But sure I'll explain. Both you and Barkley have made multiple horribly wrong predictions.

I mean seriously, you predicted PS5 would not have BC for digital PS4 games, which would mean PS5 DE would have ZERO backwards compatibility. Like how retarded is that??

It's not a deal breaker but the lack op PS3 backward compability on the PS5 is a serious dissapointment. Certainly in a digital only future(although I would go retro anyway in that case)

Never played Xbox since I've been a Playstation fan ever since I started gaming. But I recently bought a ton of Xbox and Xbox 360 exclusive games very cheap. If the XSX were to have also a decent library I might invest in it.
I deeply respect Microsoft's dedication to BC. They die great by ditching Mattrick for Spencer. If only Sony did the same with Jimbo

Now that PS4 games are gonna get a FPS boost like ghost of Tsushima, very important.

So glad I haven't played that game yet. Gonna look amazing at 60 FPS.

Honestly I tried playing a handful of games I use to love this year on the X1X and realized how much I don't care about many older games outside of 2-3 favorites each generation.

I have kept Ghosts and TLOU2 of my buy list until ps5 arrives for same reason.

Itsa given Sony will suport with excellent patches and enhancements.

3rd party will do what pleases them, unless MS or Sony fund it.

Backwards compatibility is important the more i think about it. I have some original Xbox games that aren't playable on anything but the original console. And those are getting harder and harder to get ahold of for a reasonable price last i checked (it's been awhile). Eventually, the only way to play them will be through PC emulation. And not everyone wants to mess with that. But licensing rights and crap like that will always be an issue as well i suppose. Eventually, outside of emulation, some games will become coasters far before their time to do so arrives. BC would be great (especially at 100%) so games aren't rendered unplayable at some point.

It's critical for me. I still have a couple of PS4 titles that I need to complete and I'm not interested in keeping the old console around. I'm so happy that savegames have been confirmed as being accessible now.

Not very. There are only a few select games I ever feel like replaying, even then, remasters take care of that for me.

Apparently not that important to many. Xbox has had better backwards compatibility for almost a decade and got decimated in sales.

I wouldn't touch the PS5 if it didn't have it. BC helps secure your digital purchases for the future. MS pledge to bring your old library with you is one of the reasons Im all in digital for the platform. I wish Nintendo and Sony would do the same.

You say this like disk versions don't work the same.

Stuff like Star Ocean First Departure R, Arcade Archives, various PS2 Classics (they did an okay job on PS4, but a better list on PS3), Devil May Cry 4: SE, and various games besides disc based AAA titles. I also don't think games are worth throwing away, but I do think that one play through is good enough. Sometimes an ultimate version is released and often times you have a very vanilla:bare bones version of a game. Either way, getting to play your already purchased games is a huge plus. I paid for Witcher 3, Bloodborne , and etc and bought their DLC willingly, for full price. I'm satisfied with my purchase even though I want to play mainly on the PS5. I personally love launch day for consoles. I think it sucks to always have a negative outlook about it. I've enjoyed launch day since I was a kid and it's even better now that I don't have to rely on somebody else. I use to work with some guys who belittled launch anything and they never sounded like they enjoyed anything at all.

It's important enough that when I look at the upgrades the SX will bring to XBO games with nothing concrete beyond they run like on a PS4 on Sony's side, I skipped trying to preorder one.

Sony also killing off the web store for accessing PS3/PSP/Vita games for no reason is also not leading me to believe they will support their past product libraries. I'm switching back to maining PC with Gamepass, and might get a PS5 mid gen if it has any exclusives that looks interesting that I can grab for $10-20 each.

Having a huge digital PC library that lets me play games from several decades on the latest hardware surpasses what Sony is doing. MS has the right idea and has always been BC friendly if you look at how long they support things on WIndows.

Why would I want to deal with this when I can have a nice clean digital environment. The fact that I'm going to be able to play Gauntlet which was my first 360 digital game on my Xbox series X is awesome. If you can see the value in that that's on you.
