How often do you get the urge to play Super Mario World?

This is kind of an odd question, but I was having a discussion with some friends about Mario Maker a while ago and we ended up on the topic of Super Mario World. All of us have played and beaten that game countless times, but as we were talking about it we realized that each of us had played the game rather recently.

One of my friends was talking about how he played it in one form or another at least once a month, and it dawned on me that I pretty much do that too. Through emulation on a phone, on Wii U, on a SNES, or some other means, I probably boot up Super Mario World at least once a month. Whenever I'm trying out a SNES emulator on some new device, the first game I test with it is usually Super Mario World. I had never stopped to think how often I actually still play the game all these years later.

Do any of you get this so-called Super Mario World urge?

Maybe a few times a year I'll play it, not usually to the end though.

Super Metroid is my go-to game though, I'll play through that at least every 1-2 months.

Funny this thread just came up. I literally just woke up from a dream: I was playing Super Mario World and I discovered a new secret level.

That said, SMB3 is the better game.

When I was younger, definitely. I never owned a snes so it was always this game that I could never just play whenever. Once I got it for GBA, I played it to completion twice and haven't touched it since.

My go to like you describe OP, is either Streets of Rage 2 or Link's Awakening.

Maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I got it on the Wii U in February and promptly beat it. I've only ever 100%'d the game once though.
How anyone can think any of the other 2D Marios are superior is beyond me.Some of them are good, but none of them even touch the masterpiece that is Super Mario World.

6 times a year * 20 years since release = 120

And here I was thinking my 12 playthroughs of Zelda OOT was a lot.

I briefly wanted to when I got my WiiU last year, then I saw how overpriced it was on the eshop, and that was the end of that.

I might get it if no better games end up in the ClubNintendo rewards, but I'm not exactly eager to replay it. It's alright.

what makes people like mario bros 3 more? I love both of them and think that they are of the same quality in general.

I got the 96 exits last week op, but i hadn't played it in a while. Love it

I get the urge to play it every 3 months or so, but my Snes is busted and I've had very bad experiences with Rom stuffs in the past so actually playing the game isn't really a thing I can do right now :(

I've played through it 5 or so times. The first 4 times in the 90s. The fifth two years ago. All levels.

Super Mario World is superior to Super Mario Bros 3 btw. The music, fluidity and range of control, secrets.. everything are on another level.

^ also, yoshi!

With every new handheld device :P And then every year or so. Regularly bummed out by knowing I won't have it on my favourite.

If the new 3DS gets snes support, I'm on it mainly for this. Criminal that it doesn't.

I play it all the time, ripped the rom and my save from my cartridge (based retrode) to play it on my PSP. This is part of the reason I want Vita to finally get a decent cfw, SMW would be neat on that D-Pad.

That was my first ever game. Got it as a pack in with a SNES when I was 4 years old in '93

And still one of the GOAT

Play it whenever I feel like hookin up that same SNES (now piss yellow).

Gotta get an XRGB Mini one of these days, sucks playing over composhit on an hdtv...too bad its so overpriced.

Agreed SMW is untouchable in quality. Not just peak Mario, but peak Nintendo.

Well I can beat it in a bit over an hour now, I haven't done that every year since release, and it is my favorite game. But yeah 120 wouldn't surprise me anyway.

12 playthroughs of OoT is still a lot. ;)

Well, every time I think about the game I have the urge to play it for a bit, but I rarely play it. I do finish it at least once a year, though.

Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, on the other hand... I always play and finish them at least twice each year.

A couple times a year at the very least. Last few years I've played it several times. It doesn't get old and you can just sit down and play it. Sometimes I want it that simple.

Its soo good (my favourite 2d mario gae) but after I made the perfect savethe GBA version (beating everything with luigi and mario, getting ll the yoshi and princess special coins, having a cape, and a feather in the item box, a blue yoshi, 9999999990 points, 99 coins, 999 lives and 99 in the bonus score) I dont want it touch it again if its not to show the game to someone.

I play it about once or twice a month. I never continue where I left off though; I always start a new game and play it for an hour or two (for some reason).

I remember my fond times with it whenever I see images of it, but I hardly boot it up.

Co-op'd through the whole game one night not too long ago actually. It was fun. Maybe again in another few years.

Not as much as I probaly should. I usually get an urge to replay a DKC game or even Yoshi's Island before SMW. Might be because I played that and the NES Trilogy to death in my childhood, much like how I watched the living hell out of Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry.

I usually don't go out of my way to play it unless I have a reason for doing so (Such as recording gameplay for my channel), but if someone else is playing I'd probaly jump on that and help out with Luigi action.

I actually have an urge to replay New Super Mario Bros. Wii, of all the games. XD
