How's Loadout, GAF

Feels like an honest throwback to the 90's style of high violence, exaggerated humor, and quick paced shooting action. I mean "honest" as in I don't think they're trying to be a throwback, I think it just happened. Either way, it works. Game is a lot of fun, weaponcrafting is addictive. The gameplay reminds me more of Q3A and UT more than TF2. Playing Coop vs bots is really fun. The bots are a challenge, so you actually have to work with your team, which I like.

Brad Shoemaker: Loadout "is free-to-play if your time is worth nothing"

Mitch Bowman (RPS, Unwinnable): "Unsurprisingly, Loadout it a pretty bad game. It's also still full of hangs and severe bugs, and should not be out of Early Access yet."

With such glowing praise from my favourite sites, how could I pass on this? :D

Critics being humourless bastards with no sense of a what a good game is. I'm truly shocked.

These people weren't judging the humour.

Doesn't matter the game itself is great as well. I don't see much wrong with it apart from the matchmaking servers being overloaded. Had no bugs either. Plays great.

Actually give it a go yourself, you never know you might like it! :)

Just bad. Stupid disgusting and purposeless rotten game. Tries to take it as far as possible to be funny, but fails horribly.

This game makes me sick.

Do not take me wrong, I can appreciate games, that are dumb, but awesome because of it. This is not one of them.

i agree.. the game isnt funny. Id probably be the way you are feeling right now if the internet hadnt desensitized me as much as it has. So as it is i just think its stupid and extremely juvenile.

I can over look the insane immaturity if the gameplay is great..maybe.but i will probably never download it and see because of that. not worth the time.

Yep, pretty fun game.

I'm having fun. *shrug*

The game's buggy? Servers aren't the best right now, but buggy? ....Nah.

I understand if the game's humor doesn't appeal to you sure, but I don't think that should exclude you from checking out the gameplay.

Gunplay's tight, it's not a grind to unlock weapon parts, and it just feels /good/ to play. I've never played a shooter that's enjoyable to pick up like this, not in a long ass time.

Brad wasn't judging the game either, he made an off-hand comment about the servers being down. He praised the aspects he did play.

Well he's definitely right in that regard, it's completely fucked at the minute as the matchmaking servers are exploding right now. I've currently been waiting in matchmaking for 45mins :P I don't expect a game anytime soon.

Ivw found casual games vs.humans pretty fast. Less than 2 minutes. Pretty fun game. I've just been playing the game and noting has really rubbed me the wrong way like in this thread. Game seems great to me.

The queues are ridiculous, but I guess that's because it's launch day and their servers may be imploding. Haven't encountered any bugs though.

The Loadout twitter is telling people to change their region to Australia for the meantime. Worked for me, I got a game pretty fast. Nearly 200 ping but matches went smoothly enough so it may be worth a go until things have settled down a bit.

Which is kind of a huge issue for people who might want to check out the game but hear there are massive launch issues so they'll stay away for a while. If you're premiering an online game and it doesn't work for the first week, people will just forget about it and never come back. I feel like that should be considered as a quality of an online game in terms of how hard the developers are working or how their net design is. When people start praising GGPO for fighting games, for example.

Whilst I agree with you to an extent in Loadouts case it's the matchmaking servers not coping with demand and taking forever to place people into matches. It must be quite hard for them to try and anticipate the numbers before going live. Not saying its right but the demand must have really taken them by surprise.

It's basically a third person UT3 with better weapons. The only thing that I didn't care for was the lack of wall jump and the grinding for said weapons.

I'm kind of digging the syle and personalization, but I can't find a game in europe :/ any EU gaffers wanna add me? I'm Zappykeyboard on steam

Even though you might not like the dumb humor in the game, it's still worth trying when the matchmaking works properly. The gameplay was actually really fun, experimenting with different guns are fun, the shooting feels good.

It's also not really a huge grind to unlock the currency for buying new weapon parts. I played 4 games or so before it broke yesterday and managed to get enough to make a pretty cool weapon.

There's also no pay to win, everything you buy with real money are just cosmetics and boosts if you want to unlock stuff faster (which really isn't needed if you ask me).

I hope they can get the matchmaking servers working soon, because I really want to play some more.

I really like the game. Team work is essential, really cool game modes, over-the-top violence (you might see that half of your shoulder is missing or you have a huge hole in your chest if you get to walk away from a gun fight), gun crafting is fun. This has taken over as my go to online shooter the past month or so.

Hope they get the servers taken care. But I guess it is encouraging that the demand has been high

From the small numbers of rounds i could play i can say the game plays really good but the Matchmaking is horrible at the moment xD

I played a couple matches last night, and it was pretty fun. Now their servers are all fucked up again, I'm able to join a match, but then when the match actually starts everyone gets kicked and I'm not able to rejoin. Hope they fix it soon, I want to play more!

The shooting seems ok and the weapon crafting is a neat idea, but the F2P treadmill seems very slow and the price for "spacebux," hilarious name aside, is highway fucking robbery.

The game also includes not one but three Gangnam Style taunts, and probably deserves to be launched into the sun because of it.

Unless you expect to be able to unlock all stuff for a weapons class after a few games it's not really that slow. I got just under 10 000 blutes or what they call it after a couple of games yesterday before the servers broke down. Enough to buy what I wanted for my beam weapon at the moment. I'd say it's actually pretty generous with how fast you get that currency without paying for a boost.

Sure, it's a bit of a grind to level up parts but it's not like the starting stuff you get are bad or anything.. My beam weapon+rocket launcher combo is wrecking fools like crazy.

To be fair, those were put in last year when that was still a thing that some people found amusing.

I wish it wasn't F2P because I don't have enough time to grind for weapon parts, but the matches I've played of the game are really fun. If they threw in some sort of chaotic FFA mode, it'd be perfect.

It takes 30,000 exp to level up a weapon, after about 5 matches with my sniper, im barely notched 2000.......... so about 75 matches to go.

Dat F2P Grind™

Played a couple matches.

It seems pretty average as an arena shooter, and the gun customization seems pretty balanced. I like the aesthetics and the art style theme, but I dislike how empty and bland the game sounds. The UI is functional, fits the theme, but the menu pre-game is a little slow.

I'll play some more with a couple friends, but the game seems a little half-baked.

The servers seem to be working so I tried a few matches, and I like what I played. Very fast paced with an emphasis on movement. Biggest issue is the camera, the FoV is too zoom in when you're aiming. Starter weapons feel effective enough.

I've dabbled in it, more so a while back when it was in beta.

On paper it looks pretty good but, to me at least, there's nothing that makes playing worthwhile - it lacks that something that draws me into clicking on it in my steam library.
Not at all a bad game, just a bit... meh.

Still loving this and can see me putting a lot more time into it :) Nothing feels too overpowered and it feels balanced just right so far. Servers are working properly again and you get into matches within 30 secs or so now. I keep forgetting this is an indie F2P game as well, very impressed.

What the game could use is a player count for the servers, so we can just go where there's a greater chance of finding games.

shame it's f2p with the usual grind cos from what i've played, i love it! closest thing to a quake style game i've played in years

This is...so addicting. I love it.

It scratches that "quake" itch that i had for years (i used to play quake 2 and 3 a lot).

Jackhammer gives me Halo CTF vibes. The fact that you don't really slow down when you're the flag carrier is a treat.

Well this game has an Australian server so it's better than Titanfall in that regard.
Other than that if you like TF2 its worth the download

thats pretty funny, considering the game was open beta prior to the Early Access feature even existed this time last year, and several people had shown videos of it like Totalbiscuit and it looked fairly stable, especially as a free to play game.

but the good feelings quickly ended when they then started charging money and trying to displace any blame because "early access is now a thing" and meanwhile a year later after saying it would only be in EA for a couple months "so if you dont wanna pay its no big deal cause it'll be free really soon!" its finally out a year after going into EA and apparently from reviews isnt any better than the public beta 2 years ago.

im just wondering when games like this will start getting as much flak as Double Fine was for their kickstarter antics and others who release crap on steam or abuse Early Access...much less when you say its a free to play game and then try to justify putting it in EA rather than keeping it open and free thru beta, which is probably more egregious than any of the other examples because atleast they dont try to swindle you with "if you dont wanna pay its okay cause it'll be out by end of summer!" which turns into a full calendar year

Played it for a bit. It's pretty fun! Here in the EU the servers are working nicely and ping is pretty good also hitboxes work as they should. Love love the customization of the weapons my lord so many things to do. And it is pretty optimized i can say i am surprised by this game seeing on steam it is getting more players is nice! :)
