I'm done. I really wanted one, but not enough for me to go to any more stores.

As millions of TP's are sold at 99 dollars, people will not spend extra money to buy another IP-2 for family or for the upcoming IP-3. Thousands of people have bought TP-16Gigs and its no where to be found. Ironic before it dies, TP will be the most used second tablet in the world.
If H/P extends this sale offshore, then millions more will buy TP. Infact TP's bought this weekend in North America probably outnumbers IP-2 sold all over the world this weekend.
Almost like how Michael Jackson's death brought more money to his estate than his living.
I strongly urge H/P to extend this sale offshore and take down Apple with them.
Should have tried NFM. I went there at about 9:15 this morning. There were 3 people waiting. By the time the store opened at 10:00 there was about 40 or so. They had about 65 or so in stock, but all were gone by 10:15 I'm sure. Glad I got there early.nataku said:Couldn't find one at the Best Buy or Walmart near me, so I just gave up. MThandedMThanded said:Let me tell you my story(aiming for 5 16 gb initially)
1 for me, 1 as a present, 3 for my friend's kids
-Woke up this morning to go to the bathroom. Hopped on engadget saw story about dropped prices in the US. Headed to Slick Deals. Was a gigantic clusterf*ck in there.
-Decided to start looking around online for myself and plot out a location that would be advantageous to start at. I live near a city and I am a grad student. A lot of students looking for cheap tablets. Decided to drive like 18 miles away.
-Was able to manage to get one for wal-mart in store pickup before leaving. Had little faith so I decided not to count on it.
-Checked walmart near my place as I was driving. Guy had no idea what a touchpad was.
-Once I got to the mall area far from where I live there was a walmart, sams ,office max, and a best buy
-I get to go in sams early because I am a business member(its like 7:15). They only had 32gb I am not going to pay 50% more for double the memory. Cheapens(not in a good way) the deal IMO. The 16 gb is a much better deal
-Went in walmart. Found 1 16gb left. Cashier said she sold the other 2 16 gb like 30 minutes earlier.
-Its still too early for 9:00 store openings so I decide to drive further away to another Walmart. They tell me they have one but as I am getting checked out I hear the cashier say save that other "16 gb touchpad for me" .... Damn I got scooped. Got one could have gotten 2.
-Drive back to the mall area near the first walmart. Officemax seems like a good bet. Before the store opens I manage to get a hold of the manager and he tells me they are sending them back.... blown. This is the same time I hear that best buy is sending them back. No reason to stay here
-Drive to staples. Massive fail.
-Finally get the confirmation for the initial pickup from walmart. Head over there to find out they have no more on shelves. Luckily no employees scooped, mine in the back.

Word from people around here is everything is mostly dry now. I could have had a lot more 32 gb if I wanted(this morning). These were the only 16 GB I could find though.
Edit: I forgot I did one for pickup at officedepot. They called to tell me it was first come first serve and they sold my tablet to someone else. Manager hung up on me. Later they called back to offer me one from the warehouse.
My friend is seeing what the deal is with microcenter. He ordered 3 through there.

I had not thought about that. The thing is though that a lot of people who bought it were never going to buy an iPad. They're buying the HP one now because it's ridiculously cheap. Though obviously there will be some overlap and if it's true they are selling hundreds of thousands or millions (hard to believe, no?) then the iPad and any other tablet sales will get a significant hit.Tobor said:

Well, it's pretty obvious that sales of other tablets will take a huge hit these few days. So there's that.Tobor said:Theres's nothing to think about. It's delusional, that's why I posted it and laughed.

That might be a market a company might worth looking into.
There are cheapo Android tablets. This sold well because it had an IPS screen, 1gb RAM, 1.2ghz dual core processor, and a better camer than the iPad 2. The bill of materials on the thing was probably higher than $350 (iSuppli says the BOM on iPad 2 was $327, and that thing has crappier cameras, 512 mb ram, and 1ghz processor). They were already selling it at a lost for $399 (after retailers share, shipping, labor) was taken into account.balladofwindfishes said:Makes me think there's a strong market for a 99 dollar tablet with modest specs.

Nobody can price a decent tablet at $99 and stay in business. Not for quite a while.

OuterWorldVoice said:This is probably the most valuable learning experience the tablet market has ever had. If I was Apple I would be just a shade less confident this morning.
All the analysts were saying it's a good thing Google was taking control of Android for tablets and only working with select partners. If Honeycomb were open source I'd bet there would be at few sub $300 Honeycomb tablets by now (aside from the hacked Nook Colors).OuterWorldVoice said:This is probably the most valuable learning experience the tablet market has ever had.
