HP Discontinues webOS (Widespread $100 TouchPad sales)

Just got one at Wal Mart for $99. Had to buy online and then pick it up at the store. Went to the store right after ordering it to buy one in store because I can't trust the idiots at Wal Mart to complete the online order right. They are $498 in store. Lulz. Went back when I got the email saying I could pick it up and got one. Hopefully I'll still get the one I got off Amazon last night from Target for $100. It's not suppose to ship until monday.

Everyone remember with the touchpads at walmart that haven't drop in price yet it doesn't officially drop at walmart until around 10:30am whatever time zone your in. Also remember though people are buying them at full price then returning them to get the price difference.

Also remember you can buy the store display but its at full price sadly. It comes with everything though. I would only recommend this as a last option though.

Charred, I can't install Preware.
Which method are you using, the Preware standalone installer or WebOS Quick Install? Did you put the device in developer mode first? Try asking your questions at the pre central forums.

So with a non-member tax of 10%, shipping and sales tax, I'm up to $186.25 for the 32GB model on Sam's Club.com.

Don't know if it's worth it for me at that price.

Yeah, I'm waiting on another place. HP still has the 16GB version for $100 but it rings up as full price in the cart. I might just buy it and take a screen cap to have them credit me.

Just a question but with it being discontinued, what exactly can be done with this given zero support? is there a huge community out there that supports it?

I think precentral is a pretty big community that helps people out.

Quick Install, it's in dev mode, and it just hangs at "installing" on Windows and the Novacom drivers won't even install on Lion and I'd really really rather not have to go to precentral so please help me Charred you're my only hope.

I've got a US mailing address at my disposal, so I have no problem with buying from the US if I can get it. The dollar's good now, anyway. :)

I just have to wait a bit for it to be re-shipped to me...

HP Canada's only got the 32GB, and it's showing the full price in the cart.

I'd go for it and have them credit me, but I don't think my credit card could take it. :P

Sorry if this was asked and answered, but can it be rooted and have Android on it?

If so, its sooooo bought!

apparently some people are working on it

it's a Qualcomm chip so it should be up and running soon enough

Staples lied to me this morning and come to find out they did drop the price and now sold out. Wow I can kill someone right about now.

Just called my walmart again, price dropped at 10:30 local. They've since sold out.

Looks like I won't be getting one, if only because I can't sit around all day waiting for systems to updates or what have you.

Wow, wish I hadn't slept through this. Apparently people were lined up at my local Best Buy and Walmart. Anywhere else worth trying ot watching online?

The guy at Staples said they were sold out in a matter of minutes in a mad rush.

He also said that I probably won't find one, but he couldn't believe so many people would buy it despite it not being supported anymore...

As a media player and web browser alone, it's a great deal.

The people buying it right now don't care about support.

It's the frenzy mode of "Badass Tablet for $100".

After over two hours of driving from store to store, I give up. Too much hassle for something I don't even really need.

- Staples, the first store says we're sending them back. Second store says something similar and that they've had tons of people asking about it. Third store says they are sold out of 16GB's and only have a single 32GB model left - the manager says "I'm aware of the price drop, but ours price dropped to $499" - guy seemed shady as fuck. It's also Teacher Appreciation Day/Week or some shit like that, so their stores were more crowded than usual.
- Best Buy said they're not selling em anymore. Rather than just leaving it at that, the guy starts telling me how it's a paperweight etc. I guess he thought I was unaware it's a discontinued product and was trying to help, but damn you don't have to talk me out of something that's not even in stock anyway.
- Office Depot had none in stock (after waiting like 20 minutes for the customer service people).
- Radio Shack was also a no-go.
- Went to P.C. Richard & Son and the employee goes "never heard of it" until I pointed out the display unit 10 feet away from him (wtf?), then he said they only sell them online despite having a display unit in store. Then he says they'll get more stock in two weeks. He seemed to be making shit up on the fly.

I'll keep watching this thread and hope that I'll be able to buy one online. You'll have to be really lucky to find one in stores.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to get it for my gf or something so she can have a portable media player. I already own an iPad 2 so I'll probably never use it, but I'm willing to bet with all these people buying up, Android rooting is a possibility.

Get the novacom installer (precentral!). First try rebooting your touchpad before installing prewar through the windows woqi

Sam's Club has it online. Just find someone with a membership or pay the premium..

I was using google+ huddle to try to track one down, i even added strangers haha as their was two of us at bestbuy this morning. I said you got google + we can use that to figure out where to get one. Two hours later nothing everywhere sold out. As my friend said.

At least for one week HP knew what it feels like to out sell the iPAD

My local BJs is sitting on 15 of them, still 399.99

I'm waiting like a vulture.
No price match at BJs

No way to check online or anything either, since BJs doesn't do any kind of universal pricing if I'm not mistaken.

I ordered from brandsmart but knowing them, they will screw me royally

I thought about heading down there, but I was just there a few days ago. One visit a year is to that place is too much for me.

Think about all the college-age kids that work at Walmart, Bestbuy, Staples, etc. that stayed out late last night, got sloppy drunk with no sleep and come into work first thing this morning to get fucking railed by customers nonstop regarding this thing...

Yeah this is what happened to me lol. We had to turn people away this morning only to get the memo to start price matching.

At least I had seen the new last night and put one aside for myself.

I'm duuuuuuuuuuuumb Charred. I was putting the TouchPad in USB drive mode.

Now to find the patches Argyle was recommending...

I read someone had bought 2 from hhgreeg for the sale price so I printed the receipt went to my hhgregg down the street. The Funny part is that when I showed the receipt of the transaction and asked if it applied to this store the guy said it must have been a glitch I asked him to look it up anyways he was shocked to see that I was right he didn't have a clue. Only downside is that I have to wait until Monday to pick it up so check hhgregg if you haven't.

Be a gentleman and sell it for the price you paid for it + shipping and any gass expenses. Don't be evil. These people here are desperate.

I laughed out loud! I wonder who did that...and did they actually hire an actor to put that together??? LOL
I was waiting for some kind of twist where the lady would turn out to be the HP Touchpad, but no dice. So confusing, and so awesome.
