You should of stayed there. My walmart didnt give me the price until 10:30am exactly.

Just out of curiosity, I just called the walmart that I had been to earlier to see if the price had dropped, and the person on the other end told me they don't sell the touchpads...even though I was looking at them two hours earlier. So looks like i'll never know!

Yeah this is what I want to know. I guess it was posted on Slick Deals, but I found out about this super late at night. It wasn't like it was widely known about previously. I guess there's more people up at 2 AM on the internet than I realize....

it started around 8PM EST. by 2 AM, most online stock as already sold out.

They won't sell them.

I'll bet you're all going to leave disappointed.

We had a guy poke his head out of our best buy at 9:30 and tell us that all of the touchpads are going back to HP and that they aren't going to sell them.

Makes little sense when HP already told Best Buy they won't take them back...

That was the bane of me then. I didn't realize it got posted so early I was hanging out with some friends. I close my store I work at right at 7, so naturally I checked the internet pretty close to that and didn't get another chance until it was too late.

I do have a question. How the hell did everyone find out about this? I mean they are truckloads of people going to walmart and best buy just for the touch pad.

Never underestimate the size of the tech enthusiast market. Most may have snubbed a $500 touchpad...but a dual-core 16gb tablet that's actually not that bad (and will be better when eventually booted to Android) for $99 is impossible to deny.

I am so sad I missed out. GAH!!!!

Gary Whitta tweeted something about it around 10:30 last night, I found this thread, the rest is history.

Thank you based-Gary!!!

What's RFD?
RFD is a site for bargain-seeking Canadian shopaholics.

Actually, these people are worse than shopaholics. They have a sinister purpose, and they're highly organized. Shopaholics just want to buy stuff to satisfy a craving. These guys want to clear out bargains by buying every single item for sale.

Browsing on my iPad now so I really don't need one, but I'll check Best Buy and Wal Mart/Staples here. Although I live in a college town so I'm not holding my breath.

I know the first post about it on this board was around 8:20 pm last night. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=30251049&postcount=427

Basically some websites let it leak out. And then of course HP.com confirmed and off to the races everyone on the internet went.

As a man with an iPad I really see no point beyond curiosity. Like I said in the Canadian Deals thread, I would have bought one if it was Android.

Just sent someone over there. I'm central so hoping maybe it's the same for my store when it hits 10:30.

You have to keep this in mind. I was at walmart for almost 2 hours waiting for the price drop. When I was there they was hundreds of people coming in and out and calling by phone. So if they did have any they probably sold them once the price dropped instantly.

I wish the HP Canada store would update their checkout with the new price. :/

Even if I can only get the 32GB, $149 isn't bad. Plus, it beats giving money to those fuckers who are flipping them.

But something tells me HP's web staff is off for the weekend and it won't get updated till Monday.

More hoarders than anything, kijiji and craigslist will have a bunch listed in the coming days at a nice profit I am sure...

lol, damn HP.

Went to Best Buy, Staples, and Walmart in the Atlanta area. I was denied mediocre tablet availability.

WARNING ABOUT BEST BUY!

Best Buy is the worst place to try to get it. I went there and they refused to sell them to anyone because they said HP recalled them. So stores are going to vary I believe. The worst part about it they had 13 of them sitting in the cage :(

It'll probably be Android quite soon, which was a selling point but I ended up liking webOS

Until I find apps I want that simply will never come I'm gonna enjoy this OG software.

Guys, they're back on the HP website. But be warned: the site is fucking up MAJORLY right now.

It's 99 on site, 399 in cart. Probably won't be updating till monday.

Edit: site just imploded

I mean, this has to amount to SOMETHING right? Come Monday morning there will be several hundred thousand Touchpads on the market that weren't there last Friday. Granted, that still pales in comparison to the iPad's numbers, but the fact this thing got liquidated so quickly has got to say something to HP.

Maybe they'll release a slightly gimped touchpad to continue cashing in on the people who want a decent tablet for 99-150 bucks.

Maybe they'll actually continue to support the touchpad, instead of bullshitting people. If only for a little while.

Me? I'm going to hope and pray that this sudden price drop caught a few stores unawares, and that the one's who weren't selling touchpads today will have a delayed reaction and put them out tomorrow.

Not sure if this has been mention or not I would recommend trying hhgregg for people still hopeful. Walmart and Bestbuy are dead in the water now basically.

Yeah something is up, with the sudden 'recall'. Nice avatar by the way

HP could sell all the ones that are being sent back to them or they could just sit on them and leave them in a warehouse for years. Anything is possible with a company this stupid.

I ordered four on Walmart.com in the early morning (and posted in this thread).

So, I went to the store, and they had none. When I got back, my store pickup orders were all cancelled. No explanation.

I went to Best Buy. They said they sent all of theirs back.

Radio Shack and Comp USA wouldn't price match.

And Target had zilch.

I was so hyped. I was going to get one for my girlfriend and I.

So fucking pissed right now. I stayed up all night, walked an hour to get one, waited an hour before opening, and got told that some RFDer (who else buys 4 TouchPads) bought them all last night and they didn't update their website. I went to every other tech store in the mall with them all out of stock and now it's raining. I'm stuck in the mall or I'll have to walk for an hour to get home in the pouring rain with my brand new phone. Fuck life. Fuck the people at RFD. FUCK THIS.

First big problem I've noticed with the touchpad: it actually loses battery while plugged to a PC in USB mode, since it keeps the screen on while doing so.

Bought a 16giger from hp.com last night around 10pm. Morbid curiosity I guess; and with demand being so crazy, I can't lose if I wanted to get rid of it.

Hit Office Depot and Walmart early both had stock but were not on sale. The guy at walmart said i know what you're gonna ask before i opened my mouth. Which led me to believe he had checked his system. Office Depot clerk I called said let me check "no sir they are not on sale." Yet when I called Walmart and office Depot back later they had already sold out. I hate mother fuckers that don't do their jobs and check their systems to make sure the item is on sale or not. Because they didn't my son will have no tablet. FUUUUUUUUCK!!!!

anyone who wants to buy a 16Gb one PM me.

I have yet to receive confirmation for HP.com but i don't see any reason why it wouldn't be shipped on monday.

I am beginning to think that once the madness dies down, next weekend or soonafter Best Buy may put these in their Sunday ad for a little more than the premium price right now.

it all rests on whether or not HP builds a life size castle with Touchpads or puts them back online to sell again.
I wonder what would generate more profitable income?

The castle I guess.

The ads for this coming Sunday have long been printed, so that's unlikely.

The dream is over, my local best buy won't sell it. I also called my local radioshack and they answered the phone with "Hello this is _____ from Radio Shack we do NOT have the HP touchpad"

Guess I'll buy an ipad instead :(

Can you stream amazon video with an ipad?
