HP Discontinues webOS (Widespread $100 TouchPad sales)

I got lucky with the manager at my local Walmart, he saw the price on the website and decided to match. YMMV unfortunately. I'm not sure if there is a print add anywhere to show them and best buy isn't gonna sell them.

Really nice guy at Radio Shack, said he would buy one himself and call me right away if he is authorized to drop price. Any idea if Shack is returning them to HP?
 
Think about it guys, if you do store pickup, do you think an employee is going to run and put one aside for you immediately when they have 10 people standing there asking for one?
 
So I assume there going to be a second wave of stock on the hp website once all the retailers send their stock back, unless HP Atari E.T.'s them

alrite, if you ordered one i won't say you have it for sure, wait for the 2nd EMAIL telling you it's ready to be picked up, then you probably have it and even then i'm not sure. i'm hoping they pulled it off shelves.

if they confirmed it seems good it's yours but idk.

top one is about 5 min from me, bottom one is about 25 min from me. gonna wait for another hour or so to see if the top one cancels or becomes ready for pick up and go from there. i'll just not pick up the other one if the close one becomes available.
 
I'm really liking some of the WebOS features, like the easy drop-down menus, the "card" multitasking, etc. It's a bit laggy at times, but for $99 I can certainly live with it. There are a lot more apps in the app catalog than I thought there'd be (although a good many are for phones and just scale up).
 
If anyone buys a bundle, sell one dalingrin over on XDA! He's been great working on turning the Nook Color into an Android tablet, and he's interested in porting CM7/8 to TouchPad.

Well, if u can sell it to someone for a markup, definitely do that. I dont want to jam you up, since i might still be able to snag one at retail.

how much markup are u looking to get for it?
 
Well, I woke-up super early and stood in front of The Source for two hours for nothing. The guy unlocked and said they'd sold the last ones last night. :(


Every single person from RedFlagDeals should have a red "R" tattooed to their foreheads that excludes them from stuff like this. I hate those motherfuckers. They ruin it for all of us who genuinely want something.

I've done a lot of deal hunting before.

Hope that woot/amazon/cowboom does some sort of resale special or wait until hp.com restocks them if ever.
 
No go at two Staples. Said they are sending em back to the manufacturer. Driving to Best Buy now, I expect the same thing though.

We had a guy poke his head out of our best buy at 9:30 and tell us that all of the touchpads are going back to HP and that they aren't going to sell them.

just received cancellation email for 2nd order. so they must be checking stock before they confirm with you, which is a good sign if you got a confirmation email.
 
Probably time to give up on Amazon for now. I don't want to deal with some mail forwarding service so I don't have an alternative, besides hoping local stock is similarly slashed.
 
People on Slickdeals are saying Staples is sending their stock back and that they won't price match. Called my store and they said the price will be dropping this Tuesday. I don't know who to believe haha.

I'm pretty tired so going back to sleep is so tempting. Is the consensus that it is or is not worth it to head to Best Buy? YMMV?

No they don't want to sell them to a bunch of resellers who will only return them in a week or two when the items aren't moving on craigslist/ebay/kijiji.

It shouldn't make a difference as HP will probably just sell the stock, through their own website, sent back by the retailers
 
Haggled for a half hour with a manager at Office Max. He even showed me the email from corporate. They are giving folks who return a Touchpad $50 towards an Android tablet, but nothing about selling them to customers at a discount price.

I think the new directive from HP is NOT to sell them. Looks like they're going back to HP. :(

I have an order through Amazon from last night when they had them for $99\$149 for a split second (through Target). I hope it doesn't get cancelled.
 
Keep an eye on hp.com guys I have a feeling they'll have more stock soon.

It looks like this fire sale might be great for webOS. You've got consumers legitimately excited about owning one. And if xda becomes as involved as they were with the Nook Color we could have something really special on our hands. And maybe just maybe Samsung/HTC would be willing to license the OS and put it on more capable hardware.... Wishful thinking I know but with Google in bed with Motorola now anything's possible.
 
The HP Canada site's store now says they're selling them for $99/$149... but their checkout still has the original prices.

wow my two local best buys are out of stock of both versions when I checked yesterday (phoned as well). Someone was quick or they never got any to begin with.
 
K so apparently some guy bought all 4 TouchPads (2 of each kind) last night and the online store didn't update the stock. Fuck RFD, they always ruin all the sales. >:(
