I bought a Vita....and I'm very impressed

For all the doom surrounding the Vita over the past year, you rarely see people complaining about how much they hate the device. I'm a day one Vita owner/believer... and thanks to PS4 remote play, I feel as if I'm harnessing magic when the device is in my hands.

I'm in love with mine (got it last Friday). I just downloaded the Tearaway demo, and that thing is LOVELY! Also saw a video for Persona 4, and planning to get that also.... I need a bigger card, though! :'(

I gotta say, the Vita is the most dangerous system I've ever owned. I want practically every game to be playable on the thing, it's unhealthy.

Vita is a great piece of hardware and a great platform if your tastes lean towards genre's and styles more popular in Japan. It doesn't do a very good job at appealing to everyone else though, which perhaps the 3ds does a better job at.

Mine will be here on Thursday picked up the Walking Dead bundle off of Amazon for 189 with 4 games and a 4gb memory. Figured at that price what do I have to lose. Will definitely be picking up Killzone on the PS store sale.

Sure, every system could use even more exclusives, but the Vita already has a decent selection.

I agree, but I feel like that's a bad sign if a sizable library of games doesn't sell a gaming device. I think that says a lot about how the platform has been postured. Which is frustrating to see personally, since I've never felt a lack of games (possibly due to my work schedule), and I really enjoy my Vita.

(Love Zeboyd's work, by the way)

All of my PS3 gaming has been taken over by the Vita. The screen is so good, playing Metal Gear Solid 1 on it is a pure joy, getting A+ on all matches in Hotline Miami is fun and exciting on it. Rayman Origins is quirky, fun and charming.

I love the console.

The hardware is like the best of all worlds- controls, display, alternative controls, marketplace, network... the Vita makes gaming better. Getting a new game on it is more exciting than any of the consoles, even though I have a nice home theater setup.

And indies- it's tough to beat Terraria, Hotline Miami and Spelunky. Terraria for the Vita is a powerhouse, taking advantage of the device in clever ways (e.g. touching the left and right sides of the screen to cycle through items). Red hot.

So Killzone looks great, but is it a fun game? Also, is it "comfortable" to play an FPS on the Vita?

KZ:M is what motivated me to buy a Vita after I played it, and I don't normally even buy or play FPSs.

Welcome to VitaGAF! Glad to see another happy owner of the Vita.

I would recommend purchasing the Nyko Power Grip for 24.99. It has me playing my Vita even more now with little to no hand cramping! It also doubles the battery life of the Vita which makes it a lot more "mobile" in that regard. It has definitely enhanced my experience with the Vita.

Here is the link to Nyko 's website. http://www.nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=Power+Grip+for+PS+Vita

If you like JRPG games I would give Ys Memories of Celceta a try. I'm about 25hrs in and loving it!

Picked one up about a month ago and friggin' love, join the discussion in the PSN thread, it's mostly vita talk and the best thread to talk about the system on gaf.

Yes welcome. I personally would love to spend a lot more time on mine...meaning I wish there were more practical apps and better options for storage. So much potential, this thing

Even just for single player, it's really fun to play. Good mechanics, good levels and a neat weapon-locker mechanic. Multiplayer is neat too. Also, starting later tomorrow, it's gonna be reeally cheap to buy digitally if you have PS+

While I agree with you, I think the problem with Sony handhelds is a lack of identity. They shouldn't put so much effort into cloning what the home consoles can produce (although I love KZM and I think it's technically stunning), and make more handheld exclusive franchises that play to the strengths of the format. More titles like Tearaway, Soul Survivor, Patapon, LocoRoco, Gravity Rush, etc. Although I love series like Uncharted and God of War, I think they're better suited to the home consoles and that Sony's handheld efforts would be better spent elsewhere. This was the major issue with the PSP for me (trying to make it too much like a portable home console) and it just lacked appeal as a result. The Vita is a great wee system, but they need to try a bit harder in terms of first party software. I'd bloody love it if they commissioned a small team from each of their major development teams (ND, SSM, Guerrilla, Evolution, etc) to make a cute, off-the-wall little 15 person team project a la Tearaway.

This is exactly why it's FAILING. It doesn't have nearly enough console quality games, which is what the Vita was marketed and advertised to be. A powerful portable console, ease of development, 5" OLED screen, full button array and dual analog sticks. The problem is in the very few attempts of "console quality" they haven't hit the mark outside of KZM.

It's turned into an indie machine with some old classics, which is fine the more games the merrier, but there aren't any console quality games on it which is why I bought it, and was promised it was going to be.

MORE GAMES SONY. Would love to see a Dark Souls on this thing.

When the vitas first came out I got the non-3g model. Amazon accidentally shipped me two so I sold the other one for profit. Played Army Corps of Hell and disliked it so much that I sold the original Vita too. Prolly should've kept it in hindsight but meh. Is Duke 3D out for it yet?

I got mine on Friday (white oled from amazon). So far I like it but i dont love it yet. I think the only thing thats killing me on this is the memory. I ended up buying a 4GB card which can fit maybe 1 game. I have uncharted on it now, and that game is kinda decent it seems. I've been using remote play with my ps4. AC4 is fantastic on it. Madden 25 seems to be ok as well. I tried single player ghosts and it does alright but when some things want you to hit R3 it seems to switch it to the R1 button. I did try multiplayer ghosts and I didnt do so hot. The sticks are a bit twitchy for me.

Quick Tip, drop the brightness by about 50%, the colors hold up really well and you'll save a ton on battery life.

I hope you're a PS+ Member because the deals they drop on this device are unbelievable (I'm actually meaning that word as well).

I recently picked up a 3DS on an impulse buy, and had no idea how spoiled I had been on the Playstation ecosystem. Holy crap gaming is expensive on it. Not so with the Vita.

PSP games hold up amazingly well on the Vita, and many are much more playable with the ability to map buttons to the touch screen. If you like rhythm / strategy / RPG's at all, try Patapon 2. The OLED screen really makes that game shine.

Whe the fuck every thread about Vita devolves into a sales/list wars/"reasons to not own one" topic? I mean, goddamit, I wasn't expecting to see a topic praising it to devolve into this so fast.

Welcome to the vita community and enjoy the ride!

It needs more games
this argument is not valid anymore. get a new criticism.

You should check out the PSN sale that's going up tomorrow.
honestly you could buy 90% of the vita sale and escape unscathed. theres SO much goodness there. if you can only buy one i'd say killzone.

I'm strictly a single player guy, would this apply to me as well? I'm only interested in campaign or co-op.
I too am strictyl a SP guy and Killzone:Merc is great. theres LOTS of replay value for a FPS. also MP is done pretty well. who knows maybe its the game thatll get you into it. it got me, moreso than any other recent FPS.

Just bought myself a vita today also :)
congrats!

Killzone is the best FPS on any portable system, gameplay wise, gfx wise, and sp/mp wise. it's comfortable to play - granted i'm not a huge FPS player it feels pretty great in hand. ( and at 9$ tomorrow how can you say no?!)

also regarding a grip... i don't think a grip is necessary until you spend a good amount of time with the console. maybe people dont use one and think the vita fits their hands comfortably. it also kinda kills portability imo. But either way you go it's a great system. The biggest pain I get is from playing the vita too long in a certain position as bunding my elbows at a certain position ends up cutting off my blood circulation so my arms begin to fall asleep...but then again, its only because i'm using the system too long.

I bought a 3DS....and I have games.

BOOOOM

hahaha kidding kidding. I actually did just get a 3ds XL after months of not being able to decide between the two. Persona 4 Golden and Killzone, along with having a Ps4, almost swung me to Vita. But the 3ds library is just too insane to give up right now, even moreso for me since my last handheld was GBA and I thus have the entire DS back catalog to get through too. Started off with Zelda ALBW and Fire Emblem and going from there.

That said, I do also want a Vita eventually. Perhaps holiday 2014 if I find the right deal.

...and it only costed you $650 plus tax.

Although this is true in my case, still cheaper than a pc that can't do what the vita can do mobility wise and with more games to come for PS4, I'd say it was easily worth it.

Edit: More games to come for PS4 meaning more remote play/ps4 only experiences, not just games in general.

Bought mine for remote play (which is awesome), but have really enjoyed playing Vita games (Uncharted and Walking Dead so far) even more so.

I have a PS3, PS4, a gaming PC, an iPhone and a Vita. I pretty much played Vita all weekend and this has become a trend. I love this little machine.

Damn - I'm excited now! I want Killzone! Too much gaming goodness!

I guess I should bite the bullet and get PSN+? :D

Thanks for the help guys!

I use my Vita primarily for PS1 games... PS1 games work incredibly well when you can pause them anytime and get back to them when you want...also the graphics look pretty damn impressive, colors really pop

Big time lol. You'll get a bunch of "free" games right off the bat, and you save a couple bucks off of every discount it seems lol. Tomorrows ridiculous sale drops half off the discounted price for PS+ members lol. I'm going to save about $30 tomorrow because of it :/

Even if you buy 1 month to get the deals, or 3 month for trial purposes. You really can't go wrong. I just buy the year membership (I have a PS4 and honestly I love the subscription)

No, the PS4 seems like a $400 accessory to make the Vita useful.

Ps3 was even more expensive and even less useful at the time given compartitive game timelines? You're in a vita thread, of couse it looks like people are using their ps4 to play on the vita. Its one of the perks of the system? Chances are they're playing ps4 games on it as well.

The vita has plenty of good games too, hopefully more to come, and if they don't come at the rate expected then its nice to be able to play ps4 games on your vita. Kind of fills that void in a way.

Got mine about 2 weeks ago now.

50+ hours into P4G and about 10 hours into Dragons Crown and i love my vita.

Got Ys MoC on the way and looking forward to more jrpg localizations coming in spring.

I ordered one and a 64gb memory card this past weekend but it hasn't shipped yet. Those memory cards cost too damned much though. I have a hard time sitting down and playing ps1 games on my ps3 but I feel like I will finally beat some of these old rpgs when I get my vita. That's the plan anyhow...
Also all those ps+ games I've been stockpiling...
I'll probably get Tearaway but I have already beaten Persona 4 for ps2 and my backlog of games is getting truly massive as it is.
