I bought a Vita....and I'm very impressed

It's the best handheld ever made no contest. I have never been as addicted to a handheld device anywhere close to as much as Vita. I actually play my Vita more than my home consoles. Something that I would have thought impossible for a handheld a few years ago. And that's without PS4 remote play or PS Now.

Yet at the same time it's really fucking depressing how the system isn't living up to its potential. It's the best handheld ever made by a distance but it's still not living up to its potential. Imagine how amazing the system would be if it had big third party support and Sony made more big titles for it.

Ps3 was even more expensive and even less useful at the time given compartitive game timelines? You're in a vita thread, of couse it looks like people are using their ps4 to play on the vita. Its one of the perks of the system? Chances are they're playing ps4 games on it as well.

The vita has plenty of good games too, hopefully more to come, and if they don't come at the rate expected then its nice to be able to play ps4 games on your vita. Kind of fills that void in a way.

So the best argument you have is "it's better than the PS3 was at launch".

What I am saying is that to me, it seems like the Vita requires a $400 console to be useful, unless you like Indie games.

LOL yes, the PS4's only purpose is to use for remote play on vita. Other than that there is no reason to purchase one!

LOL, that's not what I said.

GAF taught me to avoid 2 of the classic blunders.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia, and never get into a Vita discussion with a man wearing a Luigi hat.

It's nice to see a thread about people loving the Vita for a change. I have mine since August-September and I think I've played it everyday since then. I have that illness that makes me want to impulse buy everything that comes out, but I'm holding myself back nicely at the moment.

It really is a great device. The suspend / resume features is godly it makes every game soooo easy to get into... PS+ is awesome, the Vita library is nice and IMO the system will be worth people's money even if it only had Tearaway, Gravity Rush and Persona 4. Great games with a great OST and lots of charm (in different ways).

If anyboy has a doubt, needs some info or just wants to talk about the Vita and its library, there are a nice group of Vita owners in the PSN thread. Drop by there whenever you want :)

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not on Plus...yet, but it seems mandatory for the Vita deals alone.

The "problem", is that Sony will do these ridiculous sales blowouts that make me shell $30+ in a sitting. When PS+ saves at least a couple bucks on each title, it ends up paying for itself in no time lol. I was lucky enough to capitalize on a Japanese Developer sale, and I'll be doing so again tomorrow.

I loved my Vita for a month or two after I got it but now most of the time my Vita sits collecting dust because aside from P4G, PS1 Classics and PSP games, there really isn't much on there for me. Sounds like I need to buy a PS4 to make it useful like the Wii U Gamepad.

Hey, to each his own I suppose. I wish more titles were cross-buy and cross-save, but maybe that's just me lol. I'm in this mode right now where I'm phasing out my PS3, and I'm not really interested in picking up titles for it. That's where the Vita comes in. And honestly, they often play better on a system with such ease of operation and portability. As many have said, the ability to suspend and resume on a whim is a beautiful thing.

I have games like Spelunky, Gauacamelee, Hotline Miami on PC or PS3 and I'd rather play them on the Vita due to convenience. To each his own.

No, I misinterpreted your statement to say the ps4 was useless by calling it an accessory and only useful with the vita, not the other way around. I apologize. On the other foot yeah I do like indies, but Ive played more games that aren't indies on it. Its a cup of tea problem and if the games on it aren't yours then no, the system won't be for you.

Remote Play was supposed to be a thing on the PS3/Vita but it turned into a bunch of nothing.

It's my fault, I wasn't very clear. Sorry for the confusion.

I most certainly don't think of the PS4 as less than the Vita. It's the Vita I have the problem with.

The PS3 was not a very capable machine in terms of remote play lol. The PS4's is much better, but again, it's just a bonus. I love the Vita, I think it's hardware is great, and I think it's software is phenomenal. Things like Cross-buy and cross-save are seen as bad on Gaf for some reason. These are amazing things to me.

Could someone elaborate on the PSN sale tomorrow? Is it just vita games, or will psx games be on sale too? Is it only available to PS+ members? Is there a thread highlighting what is on sale?

I picked up that bundle over black Friday weekend and I completely love it. Played through Uncharted, resistance, killzone and i'm currently playing Tearaway, which is good fun.

One of those "good kind of problems" haha

I've contemplated getting a Vita for about a week now, and after reading this thread I just went ahead and ordered one through New Egg. I ordered one that comes with a 8 gb card and a few other goodies for $199.99 so I hope that's a good enough deal. I also ordered Dragon's Crown along with it, so that should keep me busy until I decide on what my next purchase is; Definitely trying to choose between P4G, Soul Sacrifice, or Teraway.

It was tough pulling the trigger on the order, but I got a feeling it will all be worth it once I see Dragon's Crown on that glorious screen. Mix that in with games like Hotline Miami and Spelunky in portable form and I'm sure my nerves will be eased without a doubt.

Can't wait.

The Vita held me over when my ps3 was dead, it was like 2-3 months of joy, I'll fire it up now and then to see what's new on PS+, I played Killzone Mercs A LOT (trying to complete the different contracts etc), 100%'d Guacamelee! (something I hadn't done past/current gen) and PS1 classics are amazing on this thing (more so than on my PSP), I'm currently grinding on Soul Sacrifice.

I would really like a Valkyria Chronicles collection/translation (never played the japanese sequels on the psp).

Remote play is the bees knees (currently loving Don't Starve on it!).

Welcome VitaBro!

LOL, that's not what I said.

And the 3DS doesn't even give you the option of getting an expensive console for the system to be useful if you don't like Nintendo or Japanese games.

The "if you don't like x then the system sucks" argument isn't one I can get behind. It's all preference. Just because you're not a fan of the library doesn't mean it sucks. Also I have plenty of quality Vita games that aren't indies. And indie isn't a single genre.

Got mine about 2 weeks ago now.

50+ hours into P4G and about 10 hours into Dragons Crown and i love my vita.

Got Ys MoC on the way and looking forward to more jrpg localizations coming in spring.

This is exactly me.

I bought the Walking Dead bundle, beat it, now I'm 40 hours deep into Persona 4. I bought Dragon Crown as well but I refuse to play it until I beat Persona.

Already got Uncharted, Wipeout and Killzone as well...

Honestly, PSPLUS was the best thing Sony ever came up with. As a PS4 owner, buying a Vita was a no brainer.

I want a Vita myself but after buying a PS4 my wife would kill me if I bought another "electronic device" when we are trying to save money etc.

I have been scooping up each and every Vita title on my PS+ in anticipation for when I have $200 "burning a hole in my pocket." Which may be well into this year but it's good to see folks warming up to the device as it really is an impressive handheld (I have a friend who has one so I have put hands on one) and I personally can't wait to get one myself.

Congrats on the purchase!

The Vita is an incredible handheld that tends to convert those that get their hands on one and gives it some serious face time.

I own a PS3, PS4, and Vita, and I don't find multi-plats or ports to be a problem. I bought a Vita because it's a handheld. It's portable. It's not a replacement for my PS3 or PS4. Being able to play stuff like Guacamelee and Sly: TiT, and PlayStation All Stars on the bus or at the office, or, hell, sitting on the toilet or in bed is fuck awesome.

It may not have a ton of exclusives, but the exclusives on the system are pretty top tier, from LBP, to Uncharted, to Killzone: Mercenary, to Tearaway, to wipEout 2048 and Persona 4 (not an exclusive, exclusive, but judging by the sales numbers of the PS2 title, and the sales numbers of the Vita version, it's practically Vita exclusive at this point).

I know some don't care much for the indie scene, and I used to be one of them, until I actually started playing indie games, with many of them being my first time playing them on the Vita (like Hotline Miami). Terraria, Starbound, and Rogue Legacy on my Vita are like, the only games I'll ever need for a long, long time (well, once Starbound and Legacy actually release on the Vita!). It's really becoming a showcase, and a profitable one, at that, for some of the best indie devs in the industry. That, to me, can only be seen as a good thing for the Vita.

That sale tomorrow is loaded with some great stuff, especially if you are a Plus member. To all the new Vita owners, I suggest you hop on it and snag some of those titles!

Oh, and Persona 4 and Tearaway; they aren't on sale, but they are two of the best games on the system!

It was a decent deal. And congratz, you're gonna enjoy it :)

I'd say go with Persona 4 next. It's so long, and has so much content, it's gonna last you a lot of time. Also try Gravity rush if you have ps+, it's free. It's a great little game.

If you have PS+, you'll find yourself with more games than you know what to do with in a matter of months.

Grab Persona 4 Golden, Hotline Miami, Touch My Katamari, Jet Set Radio, and Disgaea 3. They're all very niche, but they do what they do very well, if you're interested in broadening your tastes.

Not sure what you are saying here.

It sounds like you are saying "a system without games you like is still a good system." If that is what you are saying, let me remind you that a system without games you like is an underused system and it's superior hardware is pointless if you aren't using it much.

It's all about the games and while I never mentioned the 3DS, I do get more playtime out of it.

Welcome to VitaGAF, OP. The beer is on ice and there are finger foods in the kitchen.

Let me know if you're down for some Dragon's Crown multiplayer.

Vanillaware games are breathtaking on that screen, you'll be pleased I'm certain! Great deal on the system, the 8 gig was a good choice. As for your choice, Soul Sacrifice is $9 tomorrow if you're a PS+ subscriber, and between the other two choices, they're too different to compare lol. You'll get more money's worth out of P4G I feel, but Tearaway is ridiculously unique. All preference I guess.

As someone who commutes a lot it's my favourite system right now.

Sony have the foundation of a really nice eco-system between this and the PS4.

I think we can come to an agreement that we wish there was more quality exclusive experiences on the vita given its been two years since its launch. I was very disappointed in the system when I picked mine up the day it released, after about a week I was pretty bored and really wasn't a huge fan of the titles I played. After coming back I've got a pretty big backlog of games, including indies/ports that I've never played on other consoles. I fall into the category of already having one, and I could see the skepticism coming from those who don't own one and not wanting to drop $200 on a system that could fall off of titles relatively quickly, seeing as I've got a pretty good circle of gamers I play PC/PS4/X360 games with, none of them have even heard of Persona 4 (and granted I hadn't given it much thought until I joined GAF).

This is the reason I'm a little wary of these new experiences never quite reaching that high point I want it to. Much like my friends which some of them play games even more than I do on a daily basis, just aren't interested and I feel like the more general public might share that non-interest. Mobile gamers see the value of the 3DS and iOS/Android games immediately and a lacking from the Vita area. I hope the Vita starts pumping out some noteworthy titles soon. At the moment I am content with the backlog I have but I'm not seeing a whole lot in the future that excites me to think I will be backlogged for much more than a month or two to be back where I was. That's where I think the ps4 (and in your case yes, as an accessory which probably by itself isnt worth it to many to justify a vita purchase) will fill that void where I can play Lego Marvel or Don't Starve remotely. I can see where you're coming from, and I'm not there yet, but I also hope I don't get there any time soon :(

EDIT: This isnt to say I'm not happy with my purchase now, I love my vita and after I run out of Vita games I have plenty of PS1, PSP, Remote play, and new titles to play after.

You could atleast tell me why you object to my comment.

No, the PS4 seems like a $400 accessory to make the Vita useful.
fuck me. I don't have a ps4, but I do have 100 Vita games.

fuck me... What should I do?
sell the vita or buy This magical 400 dollar device? Can You give me constructive advice???

thanks man! You seem to have alot of experience with ps4 and vita.

Next month, my Vita will become 2 years old, I've played a LOT of good games, my backlog is gigantic and the hardware is awesome.

When my PS3 was 2 years old, I've only played MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and Super Stardust HD, only waiting for FF13. People often forget how terrible those first PS3 years was.

Are there any good shmups/scrolling shooters available for Vita? I checked and my PSN PS1 port of R-Types does not work on Vita, except over Remote Play. Anything in the pipeline? Some HD shooter remakes would be stellar.

Super Stardust Delta springs to mind

I just got done playing Persona 4 for what felt like 6 hours straight. It is now 7:40am and I haven't slept yet.

You tell me if I'm enjoying my Vita.

I'm torn between getting a Vita or getting a 3DS... Decisions, decisions.

Vita. Do yourself and Sony a massive favor.

For fun, I decided to jot down a list of everything I have on my Vita memory card currently:

-Vita Games-
Persona 4 Golden
DJ Max Technika Tune
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Tearaway
Zero Escape
Atelier Totori Plus
Wipeout 2048
Dragon's Crown
Stranger's Wrath HD
Soul Sacrifice
Rayman Legends
Silent Hill: Book of Memories

(Ys: Memories of Celceta - Cart)
(Sorcery Saga - Cart)

-Indies-
Guacamelee
Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD
Retro City Rampage
rymdkapsel
Spelunky
Super Crate Box

-PS1 Classics-
Xenogears

Suikoden
Vanguard Bandits
Breath of Fire 4
Vagrant Story
Klonoa
Wild Arms
Arc the Lad 3

-PSP Games-

So yeah, if you happen to like Japanese games (especially RPGs) and don't mind playing PS1, PSP, and indie games as well, the Vita is a great system.

It's a toss up for various reasons. If you're not that into Nintendo's in house games (I'm not the biggest fan of anything Mario really), you'll find a lot of holes in the platforms offerings. Also, it's much more expensive to game on the 3DS. But if first party Nintendo is your thing, you'll probably be quite pleased.

PS1 - Zanac x Zanac, Sonic Wings Special, Mobile Light Force, Wing Commander IV

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Vanillaware, so not being able to play Dragon's Crown has been killing me since its release. Muramasa is one of my favorite Wii games, so I'll eventually be getting Rebirth at some point.

I'm glad to hear the 8 gig was a good choice as it was between that or the Walking Dead bundle, but since I already own that game I figured I should go with the larger memory card hah. I don't plan on buying retail games digitally, so I'm hoping the 8 gigs should be enough for me to download some PSN games such as Spelunky and Hotline Miami, along with some PS1 games.

Tearaway does look incredible and I'll probably go with that next since it looks so unique and tailored for the system itself.
