I have too many games (Looking for storage)

So I have like 500+ PS2 games, 25 or so Xbox games, 15 Xbox360 games, and about 35 PS3 games. Not to mention the 75 or so demo disks, bluray movies, and DVD's.

I seriously need some kind of storage system but I really can't spend a lot of money as I'm on unemployment. I was thinking about some kind of CD soft case and just boxing up all my hard cases but, not sure what the best kind to get is. I read that soft cases can scratch up your disks. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to go about organizing all my games.

So, soft case or not?

Recommendations?

That doesn't quite add up.

Sell some games mate.

Yeah, I'd just sell some and get to enjoy some of the new games coming out. (And there are a lot of them.)

Believe me, I used to have the collector's mindset. But the stuff you and I collect just ends up gathering dust. And one day we die and there's a crap load of games left in a box somewhere.

I am sure you can sump up your PS2 collection with 50 to 80 titles. I refuse to believe there's more games worth keeping. Sell the rest.

.

I picked up these movie sleeves and put all my games in that and boxed up the boxes. Now I have all my CD games in a case about the size of a shoe box. I'll take a pic of it later to show you what I mean.

500+ PS2 games. I demand a list of these games to prove this statement.

I agree with everyone else, sell some of your games. 500+ PS2 games alone is insane.

Yeah but, I'm on unemployment so I'd have to do a trade-in. I can't make more than like $64 a week or I loose my benefits. Some of the games I have are so bad that I don't even think anyone would buy them. I'd hate to have to just toss them in the garbage, although I've done that to a few games.

When I put games into storage I just use generic large hard plastic storage boxes of the sort you can buy at any department or hardware store. I just leave the discs in their cases and put the cases in the boxes arranged by system. If a system needs more than one box I divide them up alphabetically. If I get a hankering to play a particular game it doesn't take but a couple minutes to retrieve it from any given box, and all the various discs, cases, manuals, and various and sundry other bits and bobs all stay together.

Call me crazy but I don't think selling videogames counts as an official income.

It's a thought but, do you know how much time and effort that is going to take to ship 400+ games?

I wonder if I could donate them to Good-Will up the street?

Be a dick and trade them in at gamestop. I would love to see the employee's face who has to do that. :lol

I think I will head to GameStop and see what they will take. I'm not taking all of them at once as I do value my life but, I could take 50 at a time and just go in there once every few days until all of them are traded. I doubt I'll get more than a quarter a piece for some of them.

You would be better off selling the ones with some decent value on eBay, and the rest on craigslist. Maybe double up on some games just to get rid of them. I'd recommend only using Gamestop as a last resort.

I also found myself with a growing number of games over the last few years and started looking for a tasteful storage solution. I found a collection of boxes in various sizes made by Paperchase and sold by Borders here in the USA that I thought were perfect. They are nondescript enough to not scream "giant videogame nerd", quite attractive in a nice beige actually, and very sturdy, some even have metal handles. They are intended to store CDs and DVDs, but, of course, games share those exact dimensions. I've since spent about $300 on numerous of these boxes that now house my 300+ game collection. I think it's about that number, haven't counted it in a while.

A place called the Container Store sells similar storage boxes. Check it out.

Here's a pic of the CD-sized ones I have handy from a couple years back:

"You know how you always ask me if I have games to trade in and I always say 'no'? Well brother today is your lucky day!"

Just buy a big bookcase.

Billy bookcase from Ikea is dirt cheap.
Not sure if this is a good solution based on his income and possibly space issues but I'll echo the statement that the Billy design is really nice. I have four that I installed glass doors and LED display lights on. They look great especially considering what I spent.

I feel for you, man. I have about 700 games, and finding proper storage (other than the boxes I shipped many of them from Japan) is difficult.

Sell those 500+ games, and buy Xbox 360/PS3 games.. :p ..heck even if you sell half for like $1..that's $250.

Yeah! You're so crazy for owning old games! Old games are for losers!

If it were to be 500+ games split among 6 systems, would it be less insane? If so, explain how.

eBay is your friend. I sold half my collection awhile back. I had 500 plus too and was jobless for along time. I had alot of shovelware in my collection, but you'd be surprised at the amount people would pay on eBay.

Because finding 500 games that are worth playing over 6 systems is less insane than 500 games for one system, where only 100 or whatever are worth playing.

Your correct. Most of the games I have are crap. I just spent the last hour going through a lot of them, turns out about 80+ were demo disks from PS2+Xbox. So far I'm keeping about 75 of the PS2 games but I still have about 150 or so to go through.

By the way, if you do plan to sell these games, I'd definitely recommend going with classified ads over Ebay. Put them up on Craigslist or UsedEverywhere, and it'll be much easier to sell them off. Might be a bit of a slow burner compared to Ebay but there's much less hassle involved. There are no shipping costs and you don't need to post up the items individually.

Maybe it would be better if you sell the Limited Edition games or very rare games like Suikoden 2 (although PS1, it can reach more than $100)

I have a similar amount of PS2 games alone, and my other collections add up to that or exceed it as well. I have one large shelf where I have about 600 PS3/PS2/PS1 cases, a rack with 360 games, a huge row of about 200 PS2 games across the perimeter of the room, etc. Older games are in other places. It's a mess and I also need a solution. I am thinking of having large cabinets with multiple rows on them go across one side of the room, that would hold everything. Any good places to shop for them besides Amazon?

Don't listen to people that say this. Why ditch something you are passionate about long term for a short term goal? I have seen so many horror stories where people regret selling their stuff and have a craving to play many of the older games again, even end up re-buying and attempting to rebuild the collection (and failing due to how hard some stuff is to find and how time consuming it can be to re-buy individually).
At a decent paying job you can make the amount of money you would make from selling the games in less than a month or two. Do not sell stuff.

Made a little rough layout of what I was trying to explain in the last post. Of course it'll vary depending on how large the wall space is you have available, but you get the idea.
