When Miyamoto retires, it's going to benefit many Nintendo games

Some genres of video games benefit more from strong storytelling than other genres. Perhaps Miyamoto doesn't care for those genres.

I disagree. Miyamoto is the reason there games will remain excellent quality, very based and remain grounded for the sake of the fans.
I mean he said years ago he doesn't even design or play games and prefers the guitar. Dudes strictly in a management / project leadership / flavor flav of Nintendo hype man era

I think your giving him way too much "credit". I doubt he has been heavily involved in a lot of the latest entries in most franchises. The main focus have been theme parks and movies for the last couple of years.

Him leaving might have an effect on that. But the direction of the games will, naturally, continue based on the director. Which won't change just because Miyamoto retires.
I have thought of him in just an ambassador role the last few years or so. Instead of having him retire Nintendo keeps Miyamoto around in the legendary company role to promote as you said the movies, the themeparks, basically anything that is an extension of his role as a game dev at Nintendo.
It's harder to see his direct influence on his most famous franchises as of late. Did he really have any appreciation for a game such as Echoes of Wisdom or has he pretty much let the younger gen do their thing? (With or withought his blessing?)

I don't think Miyamoto is that involved in game development anymore, but I don't see it as a good thing for someone so influential to step away from the industry. We're talking about the greatest game developer of all time, not someone like Neil Druckmann or Todd Howard.

He is the most influential guy in gaming ever, but yeah, Nintendo should have at least some games that explore stories. Them doing Eternal Darkness was the direction I wanted Nintendo to go. But their offer in the last years or even decades is just not for me anymore.
Gameplay is kinda explored enough already in all varieties, "new" stuff hardly feels fresh and actually new again, just like MP, it gets stale. Outside of racing games, I need stories and proper characters. Does not even matter that most stories and characters in gaming on average kinda suck. Still better than having no investment in the background at all.
I guess he personally isn't stopping Nintendo to evolve, but Nintendo as a whole doesn't want to let go of what was good in the past and just moves very slow and acts conservative.
