I just played Horizon Zero Dawn and...wow | Impressions Thread

Its funny how everything looks incredible in this game but that off screen snippet of Aloy swimming looked really bad, animation and the water effects were both pretty fugly. Not killing my interest or anything but it did stand out in comparison to just how good everything else looks.

I haven't seen that yet. Do you have a link?

I must've been in an alternate universe then where Killzone 2 wasn't hyped as fuck and presented as Sony's counterpart to Halo

This isn't true, the media hyped the original Killzone on PS2 falsely as a Halo killer but everyone started assuming Sony said this. Series has carried that label since. I used to be administrator for the largest Killzone fansite on the web, affiated with Guerrilla themselves, KillzoneGame.com. The site was very popular for fans to get news, visit forums and organise some clan games. The workload got too high around KZ3 launch and I had to close the forum and site sadly, would of loved to continue for Mercenary and Shadowfall. Actually miss the days chatting to Seb Downie and Joris de Man over ICQ a lot.

I played at BGS also, and it was the best demo there by a mile.

The destructible houses, the rope you can use to slow a fight down or save an important enemy for last, and all the crafting possibilities by the types of material I saw I could gather.

Very hyped.
Nice.

Destructible houses? How destructible? Physics based or canned animation? I had no idea there was any destruction in this.

I got a chance to play the demo at PAX and damn am I excited for this game. The control system is great, the environment is beautiful, and the machines are super neat and wonderfully designed. The demo was super short but I can't wait to be able to play the full game.

So would you say this demo gets your seal of approval?

There seriously isn't some sort of romance gameplay mechanic? It's not a big deal but it's a missed opportunity, in my opinion. Does the MC at least have best friends or close friends that she is very relaxed and comfortable around? I just wanna see her personality.

She has a foster father. Doesn't sound like she has much friends though, being an outcast and all.

Are you guys for real? You're criticizing the plausibility of the setting without even knowing the details about it? Christ.
Don't see what's wrong with that, GG's other game, Killzone, while having great lore, its space Nazis setting still look too silly for something trying to take itself seriously. I find it more fitting for a Suda51 type of a game(talking story/narrative, not gameplay).

I don't think the look was ever the problem with Killzone. It was the poop writing that was unable to sell the setting to the player.

Have you played a Suda 51 game because... yeah that is not a comparison I would make.

It should be whatever game it wants to be. Conforming to preset genre is stupid.

misleading use of terms with little to of it to back it up is a problem (i'm not speaking for current case because seems off talk confirm things but generally)
And when it happens defense of the practice because you like what you see is the stupid thing.

a good example is ubisoft (assassin creed, far cry). People maybe don't like ubisoft but at least their games don't pretend to be rpg because there is xp to you unlock skill and items

Could you perhaps make clear what you think is misleading about describing this game as an Action-RPG?

reading my post said it don't apply here (because someone confirmed interview are all about rpg elements of the game in contrast of demos)
but my point still stand generally and i was developing it.

Definitely needs more movement in the water surface. It doesn't really move when the player swims in it. Looks pretty odd.

It definitely seems like the sort of thing you will see improved in newer builds as we get closer to release. I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll improve it as even back in Killzone 3 I seem to recall the water looking great. Definitely sticks out though, as the presentation elsewhere is incredible.

If you're not referencing Horizon specifically why are you bringing this up?

It's the fact that this game tries to convince me this happened as an evolution of life that i find it silly not the designs themselves.

If the these robot dinos were created by someone or something i wouldn't have a problem. But as an evolution of life i just find it silly.

Where are you getting this from? We still don't actually know where the machines came from. The humans assume they're just 'there', but we'll likely find out the true reason during the story. I can see the concern, but I don't feel we know enough yet to come to any sort of real conclusion.

I didn't play this, but I saw it being demoed at a PSVR event today and it looked goddamn sensational. I love absolutely everything about the visuals and design, from the environment, the robots and Aloy herself. Can't wait until this comes out next year.
