I miss Snowboarding games. What happened?

Would be so hyped to see a return of these types of games.

1080, Wave Race, OG-style SSX, Jet Moto, Cool Boarders...why can't those come back?

SSX is the only snowboarding I enjoy. Love that series. The new SSX wasn't that great with the track design, but they should definitely return to its roots.

The SSX from a couple of years ago was so disappointing. As soon as I saw the reveal trailer, I knew it wasn't going to be good. Even its original subtitle of "Deadly Descents" was completely out of line with what SSX had always been about - fast, fun, over-the-top racing. EA totally blew it with all the pits and such and turned SSX into a frustrating game.

The one thing I did enjoy was the online. Me and my friends didn't need to be online at the same time to compete against each others score times, which was cool. Of course, the drawback was that EA failed to launch the game with some form of lobby for friends who did want to race at the same time. There were just all kinds of mistakes with the last SSX title. It's a shame too as the SSX series is one of my favorite game series ever. You say "SSX" and like a dog, my ears perk up man. Lol.

"Frustrating" is a good summary of why the new SSX suffered from a lack of replay-ability compared to the original games in the series. An SSX game shouldn't cause anyone to want to throw their controller at the screen. If anything, upon repeated playing, it should be much easier to get into a zone. It should be a zen-like experience when you're going for the perfect line or nailing one trick after another. Constantly worrying about dying should not even be a factor at all.

Yes, fortunately they toned it down after the lukewarm reception to the initial trailer, but it still wasn't enough for some. I enjoyed the game, got all of the achievements and set some high scores, but it didn't have that festive vibe from the other SSX games. I've always wondered why they decided on the dark, edgy setting. It made no sense.

Thank you, first post! I know it's popular opinion that the new SSX sucks but I absolutely love it as well.

+1 here. Great game with a really good soundtrack too. Shame it got spoilt by cheats and that it never held the community it deserved.

Although I liked its multiplayer it does need splitscreen and real time multiplayer next time.

SSX: Death Pits was pretty fun and I have no regrets buying it at full price, but it was no SSX3. I think the de-emphasis on the Deadly Descents toward the end of the dev process, along with the straight-up arcadey craziness of the Mount Eddie DLC, shows that the dev team eventually did figure out what fans wanted -- just too late.

I hope the game did at least well enough for the series to get one more outing. A proper HD SSX4 with freeride-friendly connected tracks, tons of collectibles, a more balanced soundtrack, character accessorizing, and the RiderNet system would be amazing.

Or I'd also be quite happy with an HD SSX3. =)

I would LOOOVE a new Snowboard Kids. Give it the same style and charm of the originals and the same awesome gameplay, throw it on Wii U/3DS and we are golden!

I was about to come in here and say you're in luck because there's a new SSX game coming, but wow it's already been and gone. I had no idea.

It was a really, really fun, excellent, satisfying, crazy fun game. One of the few games I've literally had a big stupid grin on my face when playing.

It just had a few really big flaws that could easily be done away with in a new game.

Split-screen wouldn't have hurt it either. Heck, 4 player split-screen would have been perfect for this game.

Oh it definitely had a few problems but what games don't?

But nailing a run on it without crashing once was just one of the most satisfying things to pull off. The tricks you could pull were insane and just plain fun. I loved that game. Music was great too.

It could definitely do with a split screen mode though, that would completely make the game for me. Sadly the old consoles wouldn't be able to handle it.

The new SSX had flashes of brilliance, but was so uneven. It might be the most frustrating game I've ever played. Ever.

SSX on tour (2005) was terrible.
SSX on wii was terrible.
Amped 3 was bad.
Shaun White was an giant mess.

Then SSX 2012 happened. It was horrible. It bombed of course.

Snowboard is kinda dead.

Is this just wishful thinking or do you know something we don't? That would be awesome if true

Just my speculation based on the last game's release date, and the fact that I recall an EA exec suggesting the 2012 game did well enough to warrant a sequel.

What ever happened with the Stoked series? Is it worth looking into?

Briefly played SSX Tricky and had good fun with it but I would buy a Wii U right now for Snowboard Kids 3 (or SBK 1+2 HD) that's more akin to the N64 versions. Loved the hell out of that game back in the day. Been playing it on my phone but I need it on a console.

Nintendo/Atlus/Racjin? pls

99% of why I want a PS2 emulator on the PS4 is for 1080p SSX3. Even my damn software bc ps3 can't play SSX3, it hard locks when you start a race. I keep a PS2 in my cabinet almost exclusively for the occasional game of SSX.
Wow, does SSX3 do that as well? I am more of a Tricky fan, and Tricky does the same exact thing on my 80GB PS3. SSX Tricky isn't BC on the 360 either, so I actually still have my PS2 hooked up because it is the only way to currently play SSX Tricky. Knowing our luck with these games full PS2 BC will come to the PS4, and every game ever made will work, except for the SSX series, lol.

The fact of the matter is that Tricky and SSX3 are pretty much perfect games, and they still hold up absolutely perfectly to this day. Even the visuals hold up because of how stylized the art was. They can try to remake these games all they want, but developers are too tempted to mix things up, and all it does is ruin the experience. The new SSX had a great potential, but the never ending death traps completely killed that game. I still can't understand why thought death traps were a good idea in an SSX, but it's not fun in the slightest. They also messed with the trick system too much. They made it so fast that you couldn't really get a grip on what you were doing, so much of the air time became a button masher to just throw things together until you landed with little thought about whether or not you had enough time for a specific trick. The past games were all about learning each and every jump, and figuring out what chain of tricks could maximize that jump without doing a trick that was too long to be able to land properly.

We really don't need a "new" SSX game, we just need them to provide us with a way of playing the older games in all of their glory. I would absolutely love an upgraded SSX Tricky that left the tracks and gameplay untouched, but just updated the poly counts, texture resolutions, lighting, and all at 1080p60. Do that with everything including the art style intact, and it would be pure bliss.

Yeah I'm with the first post, the most recent SSX was awesome.

I'm just imagining a next gen, "shared world" (barf) SSX game with one massive mountain that is completely interactive. Lifts, climbing, helicopters, free forming runs (no pre-set tracks) while still maintaing various events, etc., all while sticking with your friends with no load screens or lobbies.

Would be so neat.

I didn't mind SSX 2012 either, but those specific levels with the pits you could fall into just sucked. Pls no more of those.

i miss the dave mirra bmx games they used to make, whatever happened to those ? the last snowboarding game i played was SSX btw really wish they made more of these extreme sports games

The new SSX wasn't terrible at all. It certainly had some issues (yeah, the death pits were shit), and it couldn't live up to the greatness of SSX 3, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Make a new one without the frustrating crap, and bring back the open mountain from 3, please. It could be absolutely glorious.

SSX Tricky & SSX 3. (i like 3 more but they're both the best in the series by far.)
Indeed. I think the two games are pretty much on par, there are just fans of one or the other. Some people like the more open aspects of SSX3, while others (myself) like the more focused nature of the tracks in SSX Tricky. Both are amazing games though.

I would kill for another real Snowboard Kids game. (Not that DS tripe.)

I would settle for a PSN release of Snowboard Kids+ in the meantime.

This is how I felt as well. There were some good tracks and ideas in there (I quite liked the wing suit) but it felt too toned down compared to the rest of the series. Too many tacks had too many pitfalls which ruined a good amount of the enjoyment.

It was definitely heartbreaking to play on a track like Serenity, wishing the whole time that the rest of the tracks were equally solid.
