I think we'll see Link's Zelda U design at E3

You know, I was looking for that CGI Skyward Sword trailer as an example of what Link will probably look like. The best I could find was this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz-OTbThTf8

But I got to thinking. Why did they even make this? They already made a similar trailer of Link standing in a field, pulling out his sword, and running and jumping off a cliff. Why make an HD CGI trailer for a SD game only to be used in a single trailer at TGS? Maybe it was practice, like Wind Waker HD.
Yea this is weird, I thought I was watching the regular trailer then noticed the cgi.

concept art, maybe

ughhh I really wouldn't even mind if it they just used the Link from the HD Experience. Gosh that was beautiful.

They might tease it, I mean Pit was like this:

And his Brawl form was how he ended up in Uprising.

But it seems doubtful unless it's a Sakurai or HAL/Sora character, I know Nintendo shares a lot of assests between teams, but to show off a design for a new game before it comes out takes a little bit of the wind out of it's sails.

Then again, we could get this Link.

We can dream.

Well, this was his brawl model:

Link_SSBB.jpg

It is somewhat similar to the Wii U Link demo model. SSB Brawl's Link model was probably around 5-6k polygons with good texturing. The model in Wii U's demo could be under 10k polygons. I would not be surprised if Link's SSB U's model could match or exceed it.

I really hope they use SS Link, until now they have always used the design from the last Zelda game for Link.

Since there wasn't a new Zelda for GC yet, they used Ocarina's design again for Melee, then for Brawl they used TP and WW so if they continue with that trend they'll use SS for Smash Bros U and maybe LTTP2 for toon/young Link.

I really hope it's similar to the tech demo Link since he looks amazing there, but I wouldn't mind anything really as long as they don't go back to Toon Link (separate character again wouldn't be bad).

I would love for the next smash to actually have some decent alternate costumes instead of just palette swaps, especially for some of the big Nintendo characters. Having a Skyward Sword Link in there as an alternate would be really good too. In my opinion, they should have alternates for iconic characters with retro outfits (which we've somewhat seen) and then keep the palette swaps if they need to for other characters.

It's pretty bad that just the thought of a Zelda game makes me want to get a Wii U right away even though there's plenty of time to get one. That and the true Mario games are basically the only true system sellers left for me, but that's mostly because I buy the others for all sorts of games. Only those series can make me purchase a console even if I don't look forward to anything else which is quite sad. SOCOM was the only other series to do that and now it's seemingly dead. :(

whatever it is, it's sure as hell going to use some heavy lighting based on that tech demo. I don't think this is going to be a GameCube-level of difference based on that alone.

I never understood why people always got so excited or hung up over Link's design in the first place. No matter what the console.. or art style, he'll almost always be an androgynous elf.

It's too soon. I know Nintendo need to show some big stuff to stop people talking too much trash about Wii U, but it's too soon. They have WW for this year (in the e3 [and also ALTTP 2] and in Wii U), so probably in next E3.

People not reading the OP. Smash Bros will be shown at E3. Smash Bros has Link. OP thinks that this Link will reveal what Zelda U will look like. OP is still likely wrong. :P

If we get SS Link then im out. I heard they want to put in Dark-Pit. That sounds equally bad for me.
Wha? Skyward Sword Link looks awesome, and would look even better in HD. And Pittoo was already in Brawl as a palette swap. They didn't make Dark Link his own character.

I would very much like for Zelda U to be in the same visual style as the tech demo. Yes please. Dat skin tone.

And about Smash Bros., I would accept the following:

Adult Link = High-Res SS Link or Tech Demo Link

Young/Toon Link = WW Link

I love Tink guys.

3D Co-Op Zelda - 2 Links?!/ Link another character (according to rethinking the conventions)

But I don't think they'll show it. It's 3D Mario this year!

Would be awesome if they showed smash trailer first and showed a link design we never saw, then later or at the end of the direct they show Zelda U with that same design.

They always use previous gen shit for Smash. Like how we didn't get a Galaxy stage but instead a Sunshine stage. I fully expect SS Link without the toon shade (like Toon Link).

agreed, I kinda thought that was the whole gimmick. they were discarded toys and whatnot from older games. i mean we still might see Zelda U outside of Smash, but hinted at because of Smash? i don't believe that.

Ta da! This is the only Wii U Zelda you're gonna see for the next three years.

Please understand.

The only thing really different about GCN Tech Demo Link from Ocarina of Time Link is that the tech demo one uses a different shield (looks like the Hero Shield from Majora's Mask).

According to Sakurai this was going to be the design they were going to use for Melee but backed down (according to the official Japanese only Melee site, if I'm reading this correctly).

Ganondorf's design is actually taken from the GCN Tech Demo, though. If you want to be technical.
Not to mention his bitching huge sword he was going to use before he was cloned due to time-restraintss was taken from that tech demo.

Goddamn I wish he wasn't still a Falcon knock-off.

I don't understand the disdain for the 'new' look. It looks very clay like, which isn't exactly what they were going for initially, but I think it suits the game well. The animation was already very wobbly and such, I can see it looking awesome in motion.

The thing I dont like about the picture is that WWHD might not look like that. I think when they showed these they were still experimenting..

No, the experimenting was for Zelda U. They stumbled upon that artstyle while experimenting with Wind Waker's style in HD and decided to make a reimagined remake of Wind Waker using it. The whole point of the remake is for it to look like that. They just need to really cut back on the bloom.

I wonder if it will look like Brawl in HD with a little higher res textures and better backgrounds or if they'll go all out in production values and have each character super detailed and normal mapped, with better cloth and hair physics etc, like the serious non mascot fighting games (that doesn't mean it can't still be stylized and a little cartoony, no).

TP/Wii U Tech Demoesque Link, but older and buffer in an old school costume. (No tights, just the tunic.)

Do it Nintendo. DO IT.

I thought they were experimenting for remakes?

Ohhhh..ok. It better look like that then Ragnarok.

It's also a possible explanation for why they made that weird CGI Skyward Sword trailer

The test that WWHD is coming from was testing Wind Waker art in HD.
The Zelda U tech demo was testing Twilight Princess art in HD.
And the TGS CGI SS trailer was testing Skyward Sword art in HD.

Eh, marketing and all that.

That Link is pretty ugly actually. His skin makes him look like a puppet. I like the TP link though, but not like this.

welcome to the wii u where all nintendo franchises begin to look like puppets, clay, plushies, or toys. i like it a lot personally. the character model avoids touching realism yet there is no sacrifice in the quality of the environment to make him look like he fits in. haven't seen anything like it

I'm still hoping Zelda will be the playable character this time around, but I have a feeling Nintendo EAD is too Japanese and sexist.

What? Samus? I said EAD. You'll notice every female main character that comes out of Nintendo EAD is a princess

Makes the tech demo Link look like:

Because of the skin colour and texture and his face shape. I'm sure the model isn't final and probably won't be used alltogether though.
