Now that Nintendo is making its first steps on the F2P model with Steel Diver and according to Reggie they're expressing interest in reviving old series...
The original concept is pretty close to that when you think about it. Players set out to climb on different stages (mountains) and the game ends when you lose all lives. In a similar fashion, a reboot could be implemented in a way that the mountains are semi-randomized each time -- and the higher you go, the harder it gets. Maybe mountaintop checkpoints could still exist for pseudo-boss fights with Condor, and following mountains would be higher and harder (and possibly with a few new gimmicks).
Microtransactions wouldn't be pay-to-win esque, but new themed stages. An example? A stage based on the G&W game Climber, the obscure Ice Climber spin off/sequel.
Like all Endless Runners/Jumpers, there would be multiple power-ups and characters with different powers; several unlockables as well. Perhaps new characters could also be DLC. I think they could also have some StreetPass implementation; using the coins to unlock stuff and perhaps having some interaction with other Climbers you've met via StreetPass.
There could be more to it, like Endless Mode (the semi-randomized stages I mentioned earlier) versus Time Attack (fixed stages for time battles). Leaderboards are a given too.
What does everyone think? Is this idea a bit too silly? What would you like in an Ice Climber reboot (be it an Endless Jumper or something else entirely)?
