If the PS4 is $599, would you still consider getting it?

Yes. I can easily pay more than that on a Crossfire or SLI configuration, I was about to, but decided to save the money for the PS4.

You can play thousands of upscalable PC games with those video cards. You can play a small handful on your PS4 for that money. Good choice!

I bought the ps3 at launch for 600 euros and still thought I had my money worth.

Preferably I'd like it to cost 400 euros.
Already have the money saved.

Sure. I bought a PS3 at that price. I'd we worried about Sony's future though. No way the PS4 rebounds like the PS3 did.

I think $400 is my limit and I am not sure if I will even get more than one console at launch price this gen if any. I already waited on the WiiU... I just feel soooooo burned after the 360's RRoD crap that I had to deal with.

From what we know, the PS4 seems like an intense machine, and Sony doesn't seem to be afraid of putting too much inside the console. But looking at what it most cost to make it, I assume it will cost at least $399 at launch. Do you think they can pull off another $599 fiasco for their benefit this time around? Or is even $499 feasible for them to price it at?

I would buy it instantly at any price, if it has the games

The hardware is more than i expected, 600$ i would gladly give (unless xbox 720 offers more for the same price of course and more JRPGs, which i doubt for both)

I would certainly try. I dropped $400 plus on a video card alone. Makes no sense for me to back down from an entire console for $600.

side question....How much has everyone paid for their phones or pad devices?

$600 plus for my Transformer prime + the Keypad. Well worth it at the time. Still a hell of a tablet.

No. I'm no longer buying consoles until they reach the $300 level. I'll have a high end PC when these consoles come out and in the PC ecosystem, I can buy 20 games for $140 like I did during the last Holiday sales and I can no longer stomach paying the console tax price. The games I purchased included: Sleeping Dogs, TWD, Witcher 2, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Max Payne 3, Mark of the Ninja, Dishonored, Dark Souls...well, you get the picture. Even buying used, you can't match that.

I own a PS3, Vita, 360 and have not purchased the last Killzone, Uncharted or last 2 Halos. I would absolutely have to be wowed to bite early, and today hasn't changed that. It's early, but much like Sony has seemed to have learned from last gen, so have I.

I'd instabuy even at $699. Goddamn iPad cost more than that.

I'd be disappointed if it were over $450 for the base model, though, because that means not many other people would buy it...

You forgot those overpriced things called tablets. Well, a good amount of them anyway.

You're point is still kinda weak though, we all know that consoles have hidden cost. Controllers, potential sub fee, games for sure, etc.

This is why these comparisons usually do not match up.

Not to mention most people buy their phones heavily subsidized, and very few people actually buy $900 graphics cards. It's just a shitty comparison.

side question....How much has everyone paid for their phones or pad devices?

My phone (LG Optimus) was $120. I pay $25 a month for unlimited data and text, 300 minutes.
My tablet (Asus Transformer) was $300, and I paid $100 for the keyboard dock. I also spent $50-$60 on a 32GB microSD and 32GB SD to expand the memory.

they can price it $300 and i still wont get it until 3 years later. by then its cheaper, new revision and cheaper games. i can easily catch up with the early adopters.

Never gonna buy a console at that price. I finally got a PS3 when a friend sold me his original 60gb for $100. I can wait for a few years.

nah, i split one last time but not again - fortunately it wont be that high, they'll not send another system to die

If persona 5 was a launch title....... maybe

...well, shit

I will not participate in the death of the traditional games industry. Day 1 forever, viva Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

i'd argue supporting 3DO pricing - given what it did to sony last go-around - is more akin to that very participation than waiting for them to come down to a reasonable market level

Pretty much my thoughts. Toss in another $200 and you have a solid PC. Not as powerful as the PS4 graphically, but access to almost literally half a million more games plus it's an actual computer. No console exclusive has ever been worth $600.

Assuming with the information that this system will cost $399.99, I don't see too much of a justification yet for a $599.99 tag. Nor do I expect Sony to make that mistake with the larger market. Say what you will about the Wii U or Microsoft, but they will sell loads better than the PS4 if $599 was the market price.

Why do I feel it's not worth that much? Most of the advances are in software, rather than the actual hardware. The optical drive and digital distribution systems aren't new technology that requires it's own R&D costs to be recovered, driving up system return expectations. The Share/UStream environment is amazing at the surface, but it's again nothing particularly new and not near as costly. The only thing aside from the usual system R&D and manufacturing that is going to set the cost is the contracts with AMD and Gaikai. Enough to necessarily raise the market price $100-200? Doubtful. The controller may raise the value a bit, but not to the degree of, let's say, the Wii U Gamepad.

Now, there is the inclusion of the eye toy that could potentially raise the price to the $499.99 range. More information on the device would be needed before making that call however. With that in mind though in being a reality, bundling in a game and a year subscription may at least justify it. Enough for a purchase? It would depend on the game and the services offered through the subscription. An extra controller would be nice, but how many games do couch multiplayer nowadays?

Personally, it will depend on all the features and software available, as well as how it stacks up to the competition by release. I'd possibly consider it if it's above the competition and is well worth the premium, but I'd more than likely wait for a price drop a year down the line.

Can I easily afford it at $600? Yes.
Will I buy one at $450 and above? Most likely no.

Willing to go up to $400.

No. When I'm employed again and the price is in the $250-300 range, I'll probably do it. But based on the RAM I think it will be a while before the price falls that low.

Killzone and Watch Dogs probably at launch, day fucking 1, still $599 seems fair for all the showed. Even more in these times where people pay that price or more for yearly rehashes of the same phone/tablet.

These things, they are not similar. But to indulge your curiosity, most I've paid for either is $100.

I realize they aren't that similar. Just wondering how much people are willing to spend for electronic devices. Say the PS3 is $600. That is $600 you are paying for around a 10 year life span (comparing to current gen). People pay what $100-$300 on a phone that will last them maybe 2-3 years before they feel they need to renew.

Killzone and Watch Dogs probably at launch, day fucking 1, still $599 seems fair for all the showed. Even more in these times where people pay that price or more for yearly rehashes of the same phone/tablet.

Exactly.

I guess that depends on how you define contribute. I will choose the immediate route, action over inaction. Though I recognize your point.

What makes you so sure?

Kaz rose by struggling to get costs for the PS3 down/stop hemorrhaging money, while slashing the price to stay competitive with several years of nintendo & MS eating their lunch (following absolute market domination). what makes you think they did all that & are propping up a troubled handheld just to shit it all away?

It would take me a whole year of savings to be able to buy such a pricey piece of hardware, which would mean that I'd need to stop buying actual games, so no, I wouldn't even consider it.

no way in hell. it has to come down to $400 or less for me to even consider it. no titles that they showed off today made me want to run out and get it day 1.

I have changed my position to day 1, as long as I can get a gamestop pre-order in. I will not be driving around Houston looking for a ps4 nor will I wait in line for it.

At the moment I wouldn't even buy it at £300.

What was shown was ordinary given the specs rather than extraordinary.

I doubt that Durango will be much different either.

I'm not going to even consider either of them until there's several solid titles available, which could take years but YMMV.
