If this is Next-Gen Live...

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
What went wrong with the number of multiplayer slots in these next gen games? 8 people on COD2? A couple people on Quake...16 plus bots for PD0? They're barely reaching for the standards of last gen. PC destroys it. Is Microsoft going to dedicate more resources to game driven servers or other technologies to increase the amount of players in a game? Being able to listen to an album while you play a game online is great and all, but I thought this aspect would be part of the next-gen online gaming experience on consoles.

I think it just may be a result of launch game-itis. But we'll see soon.

Wasn't there a rumor of a patch for PD0 coming up to unlock the player threshold later on?

i thought PDZ had 32 player max in some games .... dont have the game yet so i dont know. and just been playing Coop at my friends house :P

PDZ is 32 players online.

And I don't know why anyone would want a whole bunch of players unless it's a game that really suits it (like an MMORPG). An FPS with 32 people shouting and running all over the place at the same time would likely suck. My favorite PDZ matches so far have been 8-12 players, with or without bots since the bots kick ass. Can't tell they aren't human aside from the name. But I digress.

that was just a stupid rumor about pdz

and really next gen will have very little effect on number of players online, that's a server/connection issue IMO

You have NEVER played Quake 3.

Calm down and think about it for a moment.

If PDZ allows you to play 32 players online, then is it MS's fault that COD2 and Quake 4 feature less?

COD2 is odd because it allows 16 players via system link, but only 8 online. Personally I think the fact that it was a launch title that has a lot to do with this.

It's not the system resources, its the bandwidth. A peer to peer hosted multiplayer game plain and simply won't run smoothly with a high number of people no matter what hardware you cram in there. Unless people start hosting dedicated servers on live (some xbox1 games supported this) the player counts will always be lower then PC's. Accept it or don't play, its not going to change.

Oh and by the way, in most games, more players is not necessarily better unless you like chaotic nonsense with no sense of strategy.

No, the developers behind both games are not by Microsoft.

But I don't think its Microsoft's fault...I think the fact that developers didn't have enough time to tweak the multiplayer aspects of the game, only limited the game in its stretch.

I think future games will have more people online at once. Huxley is being touted to be a MMOFPS...Now think about that.

8-player limit for CoD 2 is pretty crappy. I haven't played it on 360, but on PC the best games usually have around 12-16 players. Anything less and it's not very fun.

16 is the sweet spot and 32 is way too many unless it's something like Battlefield 2 with huge maps.
