(If you are) Why are you getting a PS4?

1. Because it is the most powerful
2. Because it doesn't include stuff I don't want to buy
3. Because it doesn't TV TV TV TV TV TV
4. Because I want a video game console not something else that happens to play games too
5. Because it will be officially available in my country, not grey import
6. Because Naughty Dog
7. Because Indies
8. Because price
9. Because games

Because of the following reasons,

Dualshock design (the analog sticks are symmetrically placed)
Sony Exclusives
HDD can be replaced by the user

But still I dislike the online gamplay being put behind a paywall.

This a million times over.

Not allowing users to upgrade their own hdd space, or replace a dead mechanical drive, in this day and age - its undefendable.

I put in my preorder on February 27th. I would probably had done that earlier, but the retailers didn't apparently want my money before the console was officially revealed. What can you say: I'm a fanboy.

So I was decided way before anybody really knew anything. But there are certain aspects of PS4 that make me happy with my purchase decision.

The hardware and system features. Suspending a game and immediately resuming it seems like an improvement over the current model, where I have to spend precious seconds looking at splash and loading screens. An epitome of a first world problem, but even a minor annoyance is an annoyance.

Improved performance, especially with respect to the amount of memory. This may have an effect on load times, but definitely it helps with creating larger and more detailed game worlds. I can't wait to see the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout, where framerate is (hopefully) consistent and where there is even more to explore.

Share button. I always liked how Onlive allowed spectating. If letting your friend take control of your game really works, it could be super interesting. It might even be possible to have a split screen multiplayer, where the second player is joining remotely from their own couch. Technically this should be doable.

Next inFamous; one of my favorite new franchises this generation. Next Killzone; despite its flaws, it's still an extremely competent shooter with killer graphics. Next Uncharted; loving the characters and wanting to see more of them. Next MAG; the most underrated shooter of the generation, a totally unique experience, when you and thirty of your closest friends go to war. And I can't wait to see what Order 1886 is all about.

There are other, smaller reasons as well, but in the end it boils down to being a fanboy. Not because of some blind faith, but because Sony has in the past done more things right than wrong. I trusted them enough to buy PS3 day one, and even though they seriously fumbled on a couple of occasions, PS3 is still my favorite gaming device of all time. I'm confident that PS4 will be better.

It's flat and has no vents on the top so I can stack my PS3 on top of my PS4. Take that, no backwards compatibility.

Midnight launch purchase. Why? Because I think it looks great, and I like Sony's approach of investing in their world wide studios instead of Fifa licenses.

Despite owning a good PC gaming rig I'm genuinely excited for the ps4.

I like the natural progression of Sony consoles - I wish people would see that throwing large sums of money at franchises to secure exclusivity/timed exclusivity for launch is a short term solution to compensate for the dabacle that was the xbox launch - incentive, if you will, to get those that were put off by the drama, back on board - Could microsoft theoretically throw large sums of money at games for the rest of the Xbox Ones lifespan? yes, they have enough to do that.
But will they? I doubt it - And if they did, they'd get a reputation for throwing money at anything they think will sell, and that will, undoubtably, end up being abused.

Im standing back and im looking at my Wii, 360 and PS3, just as i did when these three consoles launched, at my GC, PS2 and Xbox, just as i did when those launched, at my PS1 and N64 - and what is clear to me is that PlayStation consoles receive a steady stream of amazing games, increasing in quality over time - and that flow is not stemmed nor impacted by the age of a console, and continues to be supported long after a successor has been announced, or released.

No other console manufacturer can say that, because their support drops to next to nothing before the consoles even get replaced, looking at the Wii in the run up to Wii U launch was just depressing, and the number of must-have exclusive titles for the 360 in the last 2 years has been pretty laughable too.

So in short, i'm buying a PS4 because I know i'll be excited about upcoming games for it just as much in 6 years time as I will be in 2 months time.

PC is 2,5 years old. Still strong, still capable. But BF4 might not run that well on this 4th gen Nvidia cards.

Buying a PS4 might just be cheaper than plugging out for a high end graphics card, due to my SLI situation. My system seems like it wants to hold on for the PC exclusives as well as the games that make sense.

But Battlefield 4 might just make sense on a console. 64 players, no bullshit, 60 FPS. And they claim the controller is vastly improved for FPS.

But what about netcode? how about the servers? And the actual balancing of the game? All those things I won't know until I try it. But PS4 has peaked my interest.

My first choice would always be to upgrade the PC, but due to my financial situation over the coming years(student... strugglin.. and hustlin..) a console might just make sense for now until I can re-join the master race god tier. For now I'm still Master Race, but just on Sandy Fermi levels. Not over 9000. Yet.

Long standing playstation player, bought the first xbox along with some dino game and played it for maybe 30mins - 1 hour before it was placed in that draw under the bed.

<3 PS

I'll get one because Sony always has superb first-party support. I already know Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, Santa Monica Studio, Evolution, Guerrilla Games and hopefully Japan Studio will produce great games I won't want to miss out on. The also have excellent indie support which really appeals to me of late and I really enjoy a lot of their second-party downloadable support.

I want Mark Cerny to smile.

So why are you picking up Sony's next console?

Two caveats:

1. Don't mention price.
2. Don't mention negatives about any other platform.

Just give me the positives of the PS4.

Full disclosure: I am getting an Xbox One day 1 and have no interest in the PS4 but want to hear the positives about it from those who are getting it.

The potential of games that will come from Sony. It's exactly how a bunch of X1 buyers feel, the platform "will" have the games that they will like. That's why I'm not going crazy that neither side having a megaton launch title, there are good titles... but great? Remains to be seen.

Like I'm gonna believe that DR3 is the killers app that's selling you on an X1? No, it's that trailer of Halo that MS showed. DR3 is just the most tolerable game for you right now.

Oh... And the potential of Indies. AAA games are great, but they're taking less and less risks theses day and I don't blame them for that. they've gotta make that money back. The smallers guys are the ones willing to try something different.

1. Sony exclusive titles. Sony makes my favorite games.
2. Value in PS+
3. System power.

With console cycles lasting longer and longer, why would someone not get the system that is going to last the longest from a tech perspective? The XBox One is going to struggle to keep up with the PS4 graphically, and that difference will show it's ugly face more and more as time goes on.

I like Sony's creative direction. Unlike MS, Sony has plenty of variety and very cool niche titles.

Yeah, I definitely agree with this. Some of my favourite games this gen have been downloadable games like Dead Nation, Journey, Flower, PixelJunk Monsters, Wipeout HD, and they have excellent variety in the genres they support.

I definitely agree; Sony always support their platforms really well throughout their lifetime. They really shame the other two.

Have I seen Titanfall?

Yes, CoD clone #3481734678134 with mechs. I don't buy into dudebro shooters exclusively, so I don't need a console that does nothing but dudebro shooters.

Although I was kind of underwhelmed by the launch titles of the PS4, if RIME is any indication of things to come, I'm good for games. Xbros can keep halo.

If Mark Cerny was selling shit I'd buy it!

Seriously tho, Sony sold me on their vision for next gen where others didn't.

All of these have been mentioned before, but it's why I'm getting a PS4:

1. I prefer Sony exclusives.
2. PS+
3. Indie support.
4. Hardware design.
5. Sony's willingness to take greater creative risks.
6. New UI looks very promising.

I still might get an XB1 eventually.

My computer doesn't run Planet Side 2 very well and I really don't care to upgrade it any more (I think I would need a whole new PC anyway). 399 is a great price to join the next 5+ years of gaming with.

Plus, I... like PlayStation Plus quite a bit after getting a Vita. Helps me get out of my comfort zone and try new games.

Since I want something new to play with on Christmas holidays, and Xbone won't be out in Finland until early 2014.

Right now, PS4 appeals to me more. It being the more powerful and cheaper one is the main reason, since I don't really care about either console's launch exclusives that much. Infamous is the only AAA one I'm really excited about.

I will eventually get it for the Japanese exclusives

I got screwed last gen with the 360. (but at least I got Tales of Vesperia and Blue Dragon).

The reasons I'm getting a PS4 next February (in no particular order):

1) That's when inFamous: Second Son is released.
2) Looking back on the current generation as a whole, I think I enjoyed the PS3's lineup the most. I think the same will happen this gen with PS4.
3) PS+ is good value.
4) More powerful system.

I'm getting the PS4 at launch because of Killzone: Shadow Fall, and the fact I tend to like many of Sony's first party titles. A very large portion of the games I've bought this gen have been published by Sony. And I love how Sony supports creative freedom and innovative ideas, and the talent it attracts, like the co-directors of The Chinese Room said:
When we started making Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, we knew we wanted to make a console title. We also knew that Sony were committed to pushing really interesting indie and experimental work, and figured they’d be into the ideas we were putting together. In a completely idealistic and high risk move, we forgot about the idea of a Plan B, put together a prototype and approached Sony Santa Monica. They were just shipping Journey and Unfinished Swan and we thought we’d have a lot in common in terms of ideas about story, gameplay, player experience.

I'm more interested in games like Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Heavy Rain, The Last of Us, and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, that aren't afraid to break new ground, than most of the typical AAA titles touted at Gamescom.

The strong 3rd party support is a bonus, and I can rest assured that Sony will be releasing games until the very end of the cycle, and that they aren't going to screw me over as a customer.

I'd like to hear why the OP is picking up XB1.

Price is not an issue for me... Over the lifetime of a console, it is not that important Imo.

PS4 first for me mainly because:
First party titles
Japanese games
Highest ceiling of nextgen consoles in terms of power
Consistent and clear overall strategy that corresponds to my expectations

-A good portion of my friends are making the switch. I want to be able to play with them. Some of my IRL friends are getting back into console gaming after skipping last gen.

-Sony seems to "get" what I want. They're giving me the same strong vibes that MS was giving me at the beginning of this gen.

-Exclusives interest me more. Especially Second Son. Holy shit.

-Sony seems to be pushing Destiny way more. Bungie is my favorite studio and when they're happy, I'm happy. I prefer Destiny to CoD (who MS is pushing).

-I want both consoles. I'm just getting a PS4 first because I want it more. Hell, I might even get a WiiU after I get an XB1. Dat Mega Man.

For me, Sony has never let me down at all with their systems. Each one has given me some of my best gaming experiences. The game libraries for each system has been superb for me. I have confidence that will happen again with PS4.

I've loved Sony's exclusive titles in the past and cant wait to see what they have for us in the years to come for PS4.

The most important thing for me, Japanese games. I live in Japan, I love Japanese games, and most of the ones I love the most are Playstation titles. Its a no brainer for me then to want a PS4 as I expect that trend to continue.

And lastly, I like what I've seen from them on this console. I like their message and choices so far. All thats missing is the Japanese side of the story and I cant wait to start hearing that in the next few weeks and months.

3 simple reasons

1. There's no way i'm missing out on SCEWWS output and Japanese 3rd party exclusives (which makes up >50% of my library)
2. I'm a console gamer and i'd like to have non-crippled versions of multiplatform titles
3. I'm happy with the policies Sony has laid out for PS4 (unrestricted access to basic free services, free choice of HDD, region-free gaming, etc)

I planned to go next-gen day 1, so it has from the start been PS4 vs XBone.

The PS4 is priced lower, is slightly more powerful, has exclusive games I care more about, and has a lower cost subscription..

EDIT: missed that we weren't supposed to add price. Keeping in as it is too big a reason for me to ignore (sorry).

Sony happens to be going in the direction I want to go as a consumer and one who plays video games.

I plan to pick a One up sometime, it'll just have to be after a >GASP< price drop.

PS3 as a platform suited me for single player, story focused games, suspect PS4 will.
Ability to install my own SSD is surprisingly VERY important to me (hate load times, have money)
Praying for more Ninja Theory games, TLG, Naughty Dog, Pixel Junk games.
Not saying anything negative about the competition besides: their current console simply doesn't suit me for many reasons, suspect they may flow on to the next console.

I love their devs and exclusives.

It's impossible to talk about this without mentioning the other platform.

Part of my decision process relates to how I was treated as a customer by both companies for the last three years, and how I expect to be treated going forward.

It doesn't hurt that it's the more powerful hardware, with better exclusives, and a better price, but the true deal maker is past performance.

I like a lot of their first party stuff.

PS+ is great.

No camera/motion control stuff forced in.

-Because I owned a PSX, PS2, & PS3 and I greatly enjoyed them all
-Because I love Sony first party offerings

Do I have to add anything else?

Because I don't know. I shouldn't. There are no games at l quench that I want (well maybe knack but I have a feeling that'll be $20 by next summer)

Yet I have it preordered for midnight pickup at best buy.
