If you don't like current Konami, you SHOULD buy MGSV

To be fair, I've often had good experiences contacting certain companies over others. Microsoft's Xbox people, in particular, got back with me once and talked with me for two hours about ideas to improve the Xbox One (so you all are welcome! lol), which I didn't think any company would care enough to do.
 
I don't care about what message I would be sending to Konami. We won't be able to reach them anyway. I do care about Kojima being able to find a publisher for whatever he wants to make next. MGSV bombing would not be helpful for that.

I will boycott any future games Konami are making but not this one.
 
Konami wins either way. If the game is a failure they'll pin it on Kojima, if it does well they'll take credit for it. Might as well get this one if you're interested and vote with your wallet on the next one.
 
Game will be dirt cheap a few months after release. If you can put your game bonner away for a few months you could enjoy the game for cheap with minimal funds to Konami. Hardcore fans wont be able to but I am sure the fringe people who don't spin around with their copies of a game when they get it could probably give them less money as a message and they probably should but I am not going to really advocate one way or another. Spend your money how and when you want.
 
I'm not going to buy it because every MGS game has been bad since 4. I'll just rent it and if it's somehow good I'll get it once it's fully released on PC next year. I've gotten away from impulse buying based on hype years ago and this one smells particularly bad.
 
I'm buying it because i'm a fan of both Kojima and Metal Gear. This will be the last true MGS product, and i'm not going to deny myself because of a spat between employee and employer. Hate them or...hate them Konami still funded the project.

Yes, because the way Konami has handled everything thus far have been completely optimal.

They could of handled things way more professional than what they've done. The only thing that's embarrassing is that they aren't even trying.

I don't know if 4 haters are just trying to be edgy or if it's sarcasm or what. PW and Ground Zeroes weren't the greatest but MGS4 is the best game in the series imo. Few series get to end with such a conclusive and fantastic finale. Didn't it win a bunch of GOTY awards too?

Wouldn't low sales of the game just reinforce their move to fewer big budget console games and more mobile F2P type stuff.

People are assuming that the game not selling well will be some wakeup call message to Konami that Kojima should come back or something. If those numbers are low, I think it will literally do the opposite. Someone is going to spin the entire thing to show why they shouldn't dump money into such risky projects.

It's a moot point at this stage anyways, so why not? They're transitioning out of gaming as we've known them, so you might as well enjoy Phantom Pain as the big send-off for the series from Kojima before the lights go out.

While I agree that the idea of people expecting a company to be something other than a company is perplexing, Konami are being especially dickish with how they're handling things. They are basically going "fuck gamers" - they killed Silent Hills and then less than a month later spat out a pachinko machine version of it while also firing one of few true auteur's of the medium in a crumy way. They're also punishing employees for stupid, private things and either axing or churning out programmers to the pachinko monster as janitors which is messed up on so many levels - making someone else's job a punishment is moral killer.

The real problem I see here is the idealistic concept that by not buying MGS5 they're sticking it to the man. Better chance of a Pachinko Wizard appearing and ruining Konami through endless Pachinko wins than MGS5 being a major part of Konami's future business profits/loses.
 
I have to disagree. I'm going to buy the game provided it's not a mess on day 1 but if anything, Konami might see huge sales and decide to keep miking the MGS name with further atrocious mobile entries.

Since we all know the writing is on the wall we might be better off just letting this be the swan song for a Konami console game instead of encouraging them to murder the legacy of Snake.
 
If the question is "What signal are you sending by buying this game day 1?", I think it falls more on the camp of Kojima's vision and way of doing things was right instead of Konami's way.

I was going to buy the game on day 1 anyway.
 
The people who are boycotting the game aren't going to make a lick of difference when it comes down to sales numbers.

The only thing that could potentially kneecap MGSV is that the franchise has not really had a huge spotlight for some time. There's a large subset of gamers that have never really even touched it since it was on the less popular PS3 console, and the only major 360 Metal Gear game was a character-action title that was a little out there.

Generally speaking, you should probably keep politics and video game purchase decisions separated. However, I can sympathize with the idea that you want to punish Konami for being assholes.

That said, there are a lot of developers who slaved away on that game, and have since been booted over to performing janitorial duties at a pachinko factory in the most unfair way. Boycotting the game they worked on would be a little like giving them (another) kick in the nuts.

The usual advice applies here:

1) Don't pre-order. Pre-ordering is for chumps.
2) Wait for reviews. There is a chance this game will suck. Probably a slim chance.
3) If the game reviews well, buy it.

I decided long ago that I'm getting it used, not to boycott Konami (although that did help in maintaining my decision), but because of the addition of Keifer Sutherland as Snake, I just will not accept that.

At most I'm buying it cheap on PC. Konami may not care what happens to its upcoming blockbuster game, or anything that isn't mobile, health clubs, or pachinko, but I want to signal to other Japanese publishers that abhorrent employment/working conditions and bad practices shouldn't be rewarded. I also don't know if voting with my wallet can indicate much of any kind of communication, since any executive can look (most do) at that revenue and decide nothing's broke and needs fixing. FWIW I could just not get the game until years down the line when I've made time for playing it. Snatcher, Policenauts, and MG2 MSX are sitting closer to the front of my backlog.

Oh I'm going to play it, I just find it funny some people think giving a company their hard earned money will teach them a lesson.
 
Even though everything Konami did Kojima said he and his team still wanted to make a good game for fans. And that's why, out of respect for Kojima and the fact that I do want to experience the last MGS by Kojima, I'll buy Phantom Pain. Enjoy the $60 bucks Konami, it's the last of my money you'll ever see.

I'll just slap this over the cover and forget Konami ever existed.

What is boycotting going to do at this point?

This game is probably going to be selling millions, so the sum of 10 people boycotting the game because "fuck konami, I don't care if I like their game" is very childish.

Exactly what I'll be doing. The time to try to influence Konami is over.

You think the CEO is going to switch his master plans to reorganize the company because MGS pulled in a tiny profit comparably? Yeah, it doesn't work like that.

You need the CEO and investors pushing for a return to konami's golden age of video games. Good luck influencing them by bailing out on of their last titles as they make the transition away from our market.
 
I wonder how Jim Sterling, and others are, like gonna handle the #fucKonami vs MGS V being actually pretty F'ing strong GOTY contender :O Whatever happens, this might be the last chance to buy a great game from either the studio or the franchise, so deciding wisely is the right path here.

The CEO and Board made their decision long ago before new vs used factored into the discussion.

I care about my pocket, not theirs. Big Japanese corporation involved in many lines of business doesn't care about me, the American, personally.

However, I'm printing a cover that correctly credits Kojima.
