If your next-gen console forbids used games, will you spend more money total?

A lot less. If I can't trade in a game I enjoyed for a month or two for $25-30 or sell it on CL to fund my new game purchase. I won't be spending that much at all.

I'll get the 'for-sures' and skip all the 'maybes'.

Much less on console games, since I won't have one. Thankfully I have a large backlog of titles to tide me over while the industry fucks itself.

As long as the titles hit $10 and have regular sales and price drops I'll spend the same amount, I only buy used if it's the only way to find a game for a reasonable price.

A whole lot less, if I can't sell or lend it to a friend once I'm done or if I'm not willing to complete it then there isn't much value to make it worth full price. It will push me towards PC gaming since consoles are losing their advantages and I'll probably just spend on sales.

well i sually wait for a price drop or steam sale unless it is a game made by nintendo since they usually keep the prices up or unless is a limited edition/small print of games

I typically buy 2 or 3 games a year and run a Gamefly subscription the rest of the time. I wouldn't spend more then my total Gamefly sub for the year. More then likely I will spend less. I'll take less chances on games and probably miss out on a lot of great games. Dark Souls for example I started out renting from Gamefly before buying it, wasn't sure I would like it and it is my favorite game of this generation. Sad to think I might miss out on future great games like that.

I always buy new to support devs, but my funds are limited, and my wage isn't increasing. So if prices go up, what other option do I have? I won't be able to buy as much. If used games are taken away, I can't trade in my old games toward the purchase of new games. That means I'll have even less to spend.

I never buy used games for current generations, but we dont know what the prices will be like for next gen yet so my spending might go down and i end up only playing titles i know ill enjoy.

WiiU doesnt count of course because Nintendo are cool.

As someone who doesnt buy used games, if all we have is Microsoft and Sony's DD system, will be spending a lot less on console games(already dont spend as much, compared to PC). Those DD systems are just not near as good as Valve, GOG, GMG, and ect, imo.

Less, because I won't own that console.

I currently buy some games on day one knowing that I can sell them if I don't like them. I've also got into some new franchises by picking them up cheap at GameStop or eBay. But hey, I'm no better than a pirate in the eyes of developers.

I'll buy much less and will wait for price drops more often as well. I really feel sorry for those still great, but middle of the road games under such a system.

Nothing more than I already do now. I never sell any of my games. I have a full bookshelf just for my collection and I plan on getting another for next gen.

Will spend the same.

Never buy used games nor do I sell them.
Though I mostly buy UK versions (around 45€ at launch) and for games I don't need NOW, I can wait for the 15-25€ spot.

Sucks if I can't lend/borrow them though. Probably the biggest hindrance will be if they are locked to a single account and you can't even play them with other accounts on the same console (that and a possible required server check).

Probably less, as I'd just wait for sales or whatever...but developers/publishers will likely see a higher percentage of my money.

this already happened on my transition from consoles to steam

spend a LOT less, mainly because I have to be really sure I want a game, so I wait on reviews and for all except the must have wait for sales

its then easy to get conditioned to wait for cheap prices (eg waiting for tomb raider to hit under $14) versus being there day one

No. It's the potential for my console to become a door stop if MS shuts down servers that will most likely impact how much money ill spend. Not used games.

I just see the used game thing as such a non issue. Only one person I know buys a lot of used games. Even HE still wants the Xbox One.

Less. I often buy games because I think I'll eventually play them. There are few guarantees that I'll be able to play these games later if I buy them now.

These are games that can't continue to build my backlog, therefore I won't buy them.

Hell no.

I only buy Digital Downloads when they go on sale and they're mostly RPG's because they're just about the only genre worth keeping on the harddrive.

Ironically the person who would lose out the most is EA (and Konami) because I always trade in my Fifa's and Pro Evo's for the newest installment of Fifa's and Pro Evo's.

Nope, because I have zero plans to buy a console that would allow this.

Which really pisses me off, because I enjoyed both XBox and the 360 immensely, and I know the PS4 will have it in some form or fashion. People holding out hope are just deluding themselves. (Honestly? I hope all of you holding out hope are right.)

The only used games I bought recently were 8-32 bits games I wasn't able to find new. The only PS2-or-later game I've bought used were scams on the internet (sold as new by Amazon sellers, but were obviously used).

That being said, I won't buy a game if it may become unplayable in the future, be it 20 or 30 years from now.

I won't buy XBox One. I'll probably buy a PS4, if Sony set the DRM on a per-game basis, and I will only buy games DRM-free. Besides, I'll probably buy a lot of Wii U games, and PC games when there's no DRM and my rig can support it, which means Linux-able (Probably avoiding steam for the same reason of future-proof even if it seems better than Microsoft).

Depending on Sony and 3rd parties on PS4, I'd say something between about the same and a lot less.

I never buy used games, but I'm also not a collector. I tend to trade in 2-3 games at a time, and if the value I get from selling those games goes down, then I suppose I'll be spending MORE actual money to get the games I want, not less. Sucks.

For me, there's no point in buying a physical disc if I can't sell it later on. I might go full digital in the future if this is the case. Can't decide until we get all the details.

Probably around the same, it all depends on the quality of the titles not the new/used game drm er whatever.. I never buy used so that's not a factor. hopefully next gen we establish or further other genres other then FPS

probably a good bit less.

Right now I have two categories of games:

1) I need this Day One.
2) I'll wait for a steam sale.

It's incredibly rare that I find a game that I wanted casually, see it's full price, and decide to buy it.

Less, because I won't be purchasing any console that implements the sort of draconian DRM being talked about right now.

I'll stick with Wii U, Vita, and 3DS with a little PC on the side and be perfectly happy. There are more than a few alternatives.

Less. First because in this case probaly I'd skip theis console, and if not I wouldn't be able to discover -so to buy- a lot of games

Less. Definitely less. If anything, what it'll do is cut down on my purchases of games that aren't "sure bets". The last thing I'm going to want to do is spend $70 on a game (we all know they'll hike prices on us again next gen, DRM or not) and not like it, but still end up stuck with it.

There's basically no way I'm getting an XBone, so it really just comes down to what Sony does with the PS4. I don't buy used games outside of very rare occasions, but the ability to resell stuff is imperative for me.

I'd probably end up "spending" the same amount of money, but I would also end up buying less games in general because I won't be able to sell my used games to supplement buying new ones. More likely though, I'll just never buy games new for $60 anymore, and just wait until they hit that $20 price point before even considering any game.

A whole lot less. In fact, I might not even buy a console that did that. I mean, I'm 99% done with gaming as a hobby. If i can't borrow a game or buy one on the cheap on Craigslist why even bother? That's money I could save and go on vacation or something.

No, I don't buy any used games nor have I ever sold a single game I own. I get most of them on sales, however (out of my 100+ Xbox 360 games, at least 80% must have been bought at $20 or less), and I don't see that changing.
