IGN: The Order 1886 seems great, except for one thing

The minute I saw gamepay I knew I was gonna skip this one, it just seem extremely rote to me. I don't care how pretty the game is, if there's no depth to it, I'm not gonna be interested. This one seems to be made for the "don't want to actually put any effort into playing" crowd. I'm ready to be proven wrong though; I was actually quite excited for this when it was first teased. I might still try it out if word of mouth is decent.

I don't think you read the article.

The complaints are that the guns don't feel impactful to use and that there's no sense of exploration. I think a Gears of War-type cover system is a good thing, and so do IGN, but if you combine that with corridor level design, its probably not a great match.

I dunno. We'll see.
Well if the monsters are suppose to be terrifying the people of the world, the guns are suppose to just negate that instantly? I know it's their duty to fight them but if they just whipped up a gun that took them out with no sweat you wouldn't need the immoraltality or a round table to face em. Just pass the guns around problem solved

Game looks bad, comments in the thread appear to be Sony fanboy:Unite.

Sure buddy. Has nothing to do with author of the article not even understanding how a freaking gun in the game works, or that he is playing the same old build, that has the same problems we have all heard about at E3, Gamescom, and now. Including how nearly every time someone doesn't understand spray thermite (not bullets) and ignite with flare.

But sure....fanboys.

Sorry, gameplay looks tired and derivative. And yes, these threads seem to make fanboys create an automatic defense system. Sony already gave me the gorgeous Infamous with little to no story or gameplay innovation.

So not only are you asininely labeling the thread as SDF, you are to infer that the gameplay is tired and derivative from two short demos? Man, you must be the greatest journalist ever.

There's nothing wrong with believing impressions. After all, there's plenty of prior media evidence to suggest that gameplay is getting swept under the rug.

What do you say to the fact that this author and several others are misrepresenting the gameplay? For example, not reporting how the Thermite rifle works properly, and using their misunderstanding to put down the game.

Why are people like you obsessed with labelling everything? Why must people who don't agree with the journalists opinion be "fanboys", we can't they simply be people who disagree with the journalists impressions? People have given reasons why they don't agree with the journalist's opinion in this matter, that's not an "automatic defense system"...that's a discussion. It's kinda the entire point of this site....

Just....ugh.

So, another PS4 exclusive that is aiming to lack on the gameplay side. Just imagine if this game was released as it was planned originally this year... Hope this 6 months left for release can be worth it.

What other PS4 exclusive is lacking in the gameplay side? You might not be aware that Ryse hasn't been announced for PS4 yet.

There's nothing to agree with this preview. The author misrepresented the gameplay.

So I instead decided to focus on picking them off with my rifle. The problem here was that the bullets spread out in such a wide area so quickly, that I could burst-fire an entire clip at an enemy across a street and have every single bullet miss its target

This should completely discredit the article. Of course he would be disappointed, he thought thermite pellets were bullets not something you ignite with the flare.

Edit: that is not to say everyone like this game, a game like doesn't exist, but misrepresenting a game and forming an opinion about it is flat out wrong.

I guess you have to admire their ability to plow through all the complaints and stick with their original vision. Gameplay be damned!

It sounds to me like the game is being poorly presented by RAD then.

Oh...WOW. I completely missed that quote. Are you fucking kidding me?! I can't possibly facepalm hard or fast enough right now.

Since people are complaining about innovation in this game, can someone tell me what the most innovative shooter of recent has been?

I really hope RAD release a new playable demo for the press soon, featuring the updated weapon feedback that's evident in the Gamescom trailer, set in some different environments, preferably more open.

Hopefully, crow will be served.

Well right at the very beginning of the demo when you get control for the first time there is a message on the upper right that says push such and such button to spray thermite. As soon as you do that a message comes up to press another button to shoot a flare to ignite the thermite. Do you want them to hold their hand while they play too?

Just throwing an opinion like the rest of you out there. I've seen the media and it simply makes me feel this will be another beautiful game with no substance. And I do feel people come to the "rescue" in a discussion like this cause they love their PS4. So do I, I'm just choosing not to buy stale rehashed last gen content (at least without being suckered into it).

Its funny how many times this sort of impression seems to be completely wrong in the past.

Titanfall was supposed to be something out of this world and revolutionize the genre according to previews.

Even when I played TLoU demo, I had absolutely no idea of how much I would like the game based on that. Narrative driven games don't benefit from this sort of thing.

I much prefer waiting for the game to be released, people give RaD to little credit.

Its also funny how The Order is expected to be a revolution, why isn't that expected of every other game? I personalty can't stand Gears of War and that is supposed to have great TPS mechanics, while I enjoy playing ME and Uncharted because those games have much more going on for them than just gameplay.

There is something about The Order that just gives me confidence that crow will be eaten.

Well duh! It's a TPS. Didn't you know that every gun has to behave the same exact way every time you pick one up? God, you're such an ignoramus.

No, not at all. It's a childish way to act.

Would you say someone reacting to a different opinion by saying that opinion is factually wrong might fall along those lines? You find it unacceptable that someone would use a gif to disagree with you, I understand that much.

Oh man o_0

That is really quite shocking from a game journalist. Why didn't he ask one of his colleagues?

I'm still worried about the gameplay but two things are clear:

1) Journalists haven't been given a great vertical slice of the game at all.

2) The vertical slice whether due to incompetence on the person previewing the section or a utter collapse from the PR team have made it so impressions may or may not be indicative of actual issues.

In summary we still know nothing about this game.

I am not a 100% sold yet either but I am not going to let a misinformed opinion piece based on the same old demo make me jump to conclusions like yourself.

Barely anyone is saying the game is going to be amazing based off of what we have seen, but people like yourself are quick to write it off.

Wut? No, you aren't "just" doing that. You're also calling people fanboys and playing the 'SDF' card. You can do the former without doing the latter. It's almost as if you just expect people to hush up and accept this guys opinion of his time with the game, without challenging it or disagreeing, because as soon as people do disagree or challenge him, people like you throw out the 'SDF' card.

You have been raving about the last of us but by all accounts you should hate the game because it is an un-innovative TPS. Like seriously you are calling Last of Us a masterpiece (I agree) and this crap. Why?

People all jumping on the same bandwagon pushing their agendas in another Order 1866 thread. The game looks mediocre so lets have a go at Sony''s entire exclusive catalog like they fit comfortably under a single umbrella.

This place has hit rock bottom.

Reacting to a different opinion is fine, but posting a gif with a random guy that laugh in that way is respectful for you ?
No words, no comment, just a guy that laugh at you.
That way to disagree with someone is seriously childish.
I understand that much. Sorry.

Story. It's the best story I feel ever told in a game. Couple it up with everything else, and it is a masterpiece.

It sounds like he wants an MS shooter and not a Sony shooter. He's comparing a rounded experience to an allusive one. I think a lot of journalist expect this fleshed out experience over something with more trivial game play.

Look at Halo: Large room.. 3 larger enemies walk in.. throw a sticky grenade, run back to cover, that rooms done. Woot nothing too exciting. Triple A 10/10 - IGN
Not to joke about Halo, but the flushed out experience is what a younger generation wants. I don't personally like that easy going shooter anymore.

It seems like he's trying to hit the enemies with the thermite gun particles/bullets. lol, The thermite gun is a scatter shot weapon used to surround the enemy with flammable particles, then ignite the particles to burn the enemy. Not to mention the previewer seemed to not know you can use the slow down mode to make it easier to hit a moving target. lol

All of this. I am not sure they will do another demo, because I am sure it is labor intensive and would take away from the game development. Best they can do is to release controlled environment footage and media. The Gamescom Trailer was a great start.

Story. It's the best story I feel ever told in a game. Couple it up with everything else, and it is a masterpiece.

But the gameplay according to you is stale and boring. It doesn't do anything to push TPS forward so why do you love it? You have no idea what the story of this game is going to be like yet you have dismissed it entirely.

This place has hit rock bottom.

I haven't even been here very long, and I've already noticed this across multiple PS4 exclusive threads.

Not sure if this is a trend that happens with X1 exclusive too as I haven't really frequented any X1 exclusive threads.

Isn't it the same demo that was playable at gamescom, before that playable at E3, before that playable for journalists at an event in february, before that playable for the Game Informer people in 2013 when they had their The Order cover story?

I imagine it is. And to add to that, the same gameplay that has never looked particularly interesting in the first place and everyone has already complained about.

It could very well turn out to be disappointing, but I'd rather wait until we have a much more lengthy demo of the game in a more finished state.

this has been a major concern for a lot of people since the reveal, surely the good folk at Reay at Dawn have seen these concerns for over a year now and are dressing it, surely?

Pardon, I had mixed up you with the original person in question. I saw the laughing gif in response to someone saying, in effect, "no its not," to someone who was saying how they felt about something. I thought it was laughing at denying someone else's opinion. I think we understand each other now.

Why is any of this 'clear'? Why can't it possibly be the case that the vertical slice is indicative of the game but it just isn't much fun?

They released the Gamescom footage, which is a start. It showed the weapons to have much more impact and looked much more satisfying to use. I posted it a few pages ago, I'll post it again for those who might have missed it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NedZT-tIBLA

They need to show more of this! More variety in weapons and settings.

I agree with this. However, a demo and a preview article from someone who had based their opinion off of a misunderstanding of the gameplay tells us very little about the story in a narrative focused game. RaD definitely hasn't helped themselves by presenting the game in the manner they have, but writing it off without knowing what the story may hold is a little off base considering what you valued about TLOU.
