IGN: The Order 1886 seems great, except for one thing

I feel like this game is going to be the next Ryse. Generally panned by critics and gamers however there are a few who actually really enjoy it.

Both also focus on graphics and presentation over gameplay.

I really doubt that.
ReadyAtDawn won't settel for uninteresting or unfun gameplay.
I think the main problem of the game is what they show.
They talked about soft body physics and many creative weapons, but didn't show much. (except some very short snippets in the Tesla trailer)
They talked about more colorful and and open environments, but only showed gray corridors.(except some very short snippets in the Tesla trailer)
And they're still showing the same gameplay demo they already showed in late 2013(1.5 years before release)

I mean, they still have almost 6 months to show us more stuff, but I this point I'd say its hurts them to show the same stuff over and over again.

This people are who give us impressions about games from conventions, etc...

Just look his excellent use of Thermite Rifle.

Good lord that's ridiculous. Sorry if you suck that bad you have no right to go back and make opinions on anything gameplay related. I could only stomach a few minutes of that nonsense. People act like they have never had to aim and move before sometimes.

Just watch that sunset overdrive video lol. It's just as bad

Shocking when the game was developed by someone who said

"Gameplay is something that... it's a game, we make games, we can't get around it. We love games, but we also love telling stories, so I think story is always going to be at the top"

Oh look, its that quote everyone loves to twist.

This game really does look good and I like the setting, but not hearing much praise for the gameplay is disappointing me.

It seems like the most boring game currently announced and it really shouldn't be since the setting seems cool as hell.

Shame it could be out this year. I bet it would have done well as a holiday bundle but in early next year its going to be lost in the shuffle.

At least for me, I feel like it won't have a good spot whenever it comes out. October/november are still pretty stuffed, a holiday bundle would help out this game though. Now it's coming around the same time as arkham knight and witcher 3 and with bloodborne possibly joining that shuffle too, this can't possibly be any more than a bargain bin pick up for me much later down the road, maybe if it's cheap enough by summer.

Mirrors my impressions from Gamescom.
Gorgeous graphics (the hair in particular looks phenomenal) but incredibly dull and formulaic gameplay that got boring during the 5 minute demo (of which 3 minutes were cutscenes)

This is game is not going to revolutionize the gameplay aspects of TPS and the developer said they are trying to tell a story using this TPS mechanics and some unique elements to make this better experience with excellent characters, story, visuals etc., But IGN think this game was meant to revolutionize the gameplay which is not. This game is about to provide unique experience with mix of everything not about pure gameplay all over the game, so one needs to play the game completely to understand it instead of playing a small section which is meant only for that section using weapons and tactics. Stupid IGN article which doesn't know what exactly the game trying to do and how it will play all over the game.

That's exactly how I felt while playing it. However, there are cool things that hold it up, like the seamless transitions to other gameplay situations, like shooting while dragging a dude.

Wow.

This game gameplay is not going to be game like your demo all over the game as the developers say it will change depending on the situation and they have different weapons and gameplay which you can see clearly from their new Gamescom trailer. So, look at that trailer instead of using this same old demo which everyone keep on bashing it all the time over and over again.

I love the concept, the visuals, the characters and some of the weapons so far, but yes, it does look rather boring.

They need to show something better. Don't show something stalking me while my weapon is pointless, don't show me arenas..show me something incredible. Something akin to the Uncharted 2 train sequence, the boat sequence, the collapsing building etc.

It just looks bland from a gameplay perspective. Where are the varieties of enemies?

I won't spend £50 on a single player game that isn't fun to play. I won't spend £40. I won't spend £30. I won't spend £20. I just won't buy it unless I'm out of things to play.

I had this pre-ordered at some point but I've cancelled it until Ready At Dawn actually show something impressive from a gameplay perspective.

I thought Destiny was bland, played the Beta, loved it and now I have the game on order. Just show me something awesome!

I'm more excited about a game like The Tomorrow Children because I got to see many aspects of the game in its reveal trailer and I can see how it all fits together and how much fun it will be. That was a game revealed correctly. Even Bloodborne, which was revealed a whole year after The Order has had more compelling gameplay shown...and it looks awesome.

My enjoyment will depend on if the game allows for some kind of stylish play or if it's always as rigid as it appears in videos. Don't really trust the opinion of random IGN dude, but what he says does line up with what's been shown.

Yes, its true. Experience needs to be experienced to understand because the gameplay will not be same all the time as it will change based on situation thats why we have unique setting, story, characters in this game. Read the developers dairy released so far from RAD and you will understand what they are trying to achieve in this game.

A eurogamer preview I read a few months ago also had serious issues with the lackluster gunplay, in a game like this that's obviously going to be a huge issue, hopefully they can still fix that.
Would be a shame to see such a fantastic atmosphere and visuals wasted on boring gameplay.
Maybe they should hire someone to help them with this issue.

They can try whatever they want, if a game is not fun to play - it´s not fun to play.

The Order is a TPS at it´s core. If the cover mechanics feel clunky and the gunplay is not fun the game has a problem.

I played it at Gamescom and trust me - this game (at least in the state I played it) has a problem.

This game is about unique experience which will change gameplay mechanics all over the game with characters, story etc., like you see, so developers are finding it difficult to show which one they should provide as demo and also they want to keep everything under surprise about this game. I'm sure that RAD won't disappoint us from this game and you better wait for surprise from this game close to launch or after reviews but not anything before that.

It's not just the gameplay from what I've heard, there's also some significant pacing issues as well. All action, no room to breathe.

My big issue with The Order is that they've shown nothing new in a playable sense since February. February!

It's still the same environment, the same chapter, the same demo ( shoot thermite gun, rescue injured dude ), and by extension the same enemies, etc.

The new things they've shown are practically trailers and an intro scene of lycans which are hard to contextualize, because they're trailer cuts that showcases things that those testing the game aren't able to experience.

RAD & Sony: The only way to redeem this negative hype-train is to release a larger demo on PSN this X-mas. We are talking 30 minutes of undiluted gameplay.

Did you just say "experience" like a million times on this page?

Do you work in marketing?

Just as I feared.

Seems to be a typical game, at least since the PS3/360 generation. Style over substance. Graphics over gameplay.

No surprises.

I'd say January being more likely.

It's fair to assume that the game is in a state where they couldn't had afforded anymore distractions, thus the lack of new demos/builds, etc.

It'll either be something similar to Second Son's pre-launch preview ( showed Fetch mission ) or a demo.

The section you played is not representation of full game gameplay like i said before as they will change depending on situation in every way how you play that according to RAD. The experience like watching a movie or reading a book needs you to begin from the start and it won't be fun if don't watch or read from the start, that's why I'm saying you need to play the game completely to feel its uniqueness and appreciate this game. So, you can't have a proper demo for the experience like movie or book too, and its same for this game too. That's why developers don't want to reveal anything more from this game and keep showing us same demo to stop the spoilers. People need to understand the difference between real fun and experience, because they have different ways to enjoy.

Is this you trying too hard after Driveclub?

No, that´s me pointing out that he´s been putting out weird marketing talk all over the page and using the word "experience" literally all the time while doing so.

Where is the connection to DC BTW?

No offence, but I don't think anyone should be taking your word for it when it comes to a PS exclusive. Especially after how quick you were to troll Driveclub after seeing some low-quality screenshots.

---------------

I agree with people saying it's more to do with RAD not shoving anything new, rather than the gameplay being boring. They need to show off some of the levels in the latest gameplay trailer, and maybe show off some of the metal bending puzzles they hinted at a while ago. Showing people the same section, with the same gameplay, over and over, isn't doing them any good.

Hype for a game almost nobody has played is never a good thing, because at some point reality will arrive and it will almost never match the hype.

Hype for a game almost nobody has played because the graphics look good is also dangerous.

I personally hate hype, especially for games that I'm interested in.

I can't help but remember Jim Sterling's video around the "call of duty resolution gate" period where he literally laughed at all of us for becoming audibly tired of high production games with throwaway/done to death gameplay towards the end of last gen, only to champion for it as hard as possible at the start of next gen.

Did you just say "experience" like a million times on this page?

Do you work in marketing?

I do not, but i like these kind of single player games more which provides something memorable to me with the good mix of story, characters, unique setting etc., in a balanced way instead of must gameplay all over the game and like to share what i've about this game from the developers interviews so far and want to provide some insight here because so many people are bashing this game a lot without understanding the goal of this game.

What exactly will they change? Going from tps to gta? Or talking heads, because you are implying the change is significant.

It looks fun to me. Gameplay doesn't have to be different from what is already out there for me to find it enjoyable, it just needs to he solid at what it is trying to do. I am so sick of the negativity thrown at games that aren't trying to do something different.

At this point I'm getting it to give my PS4 a workout more than because I'm actually excited for it. I'll probably have fun, after all I do enjoy a good shooter, but I'm doubting it's gonna make a top 10 for the year. Here's hoping to be wrong, eh?

The setting of this game is being squandered. When they showed the first trailer I thought the game would be something like the Matrix games, except much better. Then that was dispelled when they announced it was a cover shooter. Disappointing, but also fine with me since the mechanic is really refined after last generation. Now people are saying the base game play isn't fun. Its never a good sign when a lot of the gaming press is saying the game play is lacking in previews because they try to stay positive to get readers.

There's a healthy amount of games coming to the PS4, both before and around the same time-frame as The Order...

Unless only exclusives matter.

PC for better multiplats, PS4 for everything else.
The Order is the only console game I'm looking forward to. My PS4 is gathering dust at the moment, I need to justify the investment hence why The Order will be a day one buy no matter the reviews.

So much this.
