IGN Versus Results E3 2014: Nintendo Wins Everything

Eh. People who think Nintendo stole the show outright or changed E3 forever are on the Kool Aid a bit. They might have had the best showing, but it's more because Sony screwed up their presentation than Nintendo had a crazy great one. What Sony actually had to show, in my opinion, was at least as interesting to me as what Nintendo had to show.

Uh wow. Give some credits where it's due, man. Their presentation was one of the best E3 have had since forever regardless of what Sony did this year.

Meanwhile, with the press

I hope that enthusiasm means more Wii U sales, because that is going to improve the system more than anything by encouraging more releases.

Probably won't translate to sales.

But I don't think that especially matters when discussing the poll.

Edit: Wait this is a crazy person thread, never mind, I'm out

But you were already on the right road with that first sentence. Might as well stick around to ride this mother out.

The Treehouse thing was good, but people saying this is a revolutionary event to change E3 forever are on drugs. The press conference is going to die in the next few years regardless of what Nintendo does, and although they had the best stream, they were far from the only company with an all day stream. This just shows they had the best head start.

Yeah Sony had daily streams, but I stayed on Nintendo's stream, because they did it right. Sony had 20 minute or more breaks between games and didn't go as in depth, while Nintendo went more in depth on the games they showed and each break between games was 90 seconds or less.

That's a HUGE difference in execution.

Yeah, who cares about what the people who actually buy games think.

with that logic; this is an internet forum, utterly meaningless... and yet, here we are.

Are you completely blind to the change in opinion here on GAF since Mario Kart launched? We've had more "Who just bought a Wii U?" or "Who's buying a Wii U?" threads than I can count, with a TON of Gaffers finally buying into Nintendo's message and vision. If GAF feels that way, you can assume that it's a good representation of gamers in general all around the world.

People who actually buy games are by and large not buying the Wii U or its games.

GAF is not equivalent to a nonscientific poll on IGN.

GAF is NOT a good representation of gamers in general all around the world.

Nothing has changed for Nintendo since E3. They are still selling very few consoles and too few games.

Who gives a shit about whether it translates to sales? I'm really doubtful that E3 performance has a huge impact on sales at all except in very rare instances. I kind of feel like everyone who says stuff like that is a fanboy for one of the other consoles or just doesn't like Nintendo for some reason. Are you so upset that Nintendo won an IGN poll that you feel the need to go on to everyone about how that poll wasn't really meaningful?

Good for Nintendo.

It would be quite a nice change of pace if we could have a thread with a positive slant about Nintendo NOT immediately devolve into a Doom 'n Gloom Martin-esque "Feast for Trolls".
I give it 2.5 pages.

Guys, really didn't make the thread to talk about sales. Of course Wii U sales are doing horrible. We all know this.

Made the thread just to discuss the change of public (internet) perception of Nintendo and how it is slowly changing.

Yeah, not sure what sales have to do with anything here...especially since we haven't seen June's NPD yet. It's more of a long term thing, showing that perhaps people will start caring about the system, which would lead to better sales once the games come out.

Like the video said, they all had a pretty good showing, its just that people appreciated Nintendo's new approach which I don't think people can argue against and some good and fun looking games.

My eyes just rolled out of their sockets.

Its funny to see people dismissing a poll as unimportant while at the same time having such a salty reaction towards the result.

Most of Nintendo's showing looks like quantity over quality. All of their new franchises were C-tier at best, most of their brand new games are eShop-looking titles being sold at full retail price, and their game reveal method was awkward and annoying (a 45 minute Direct followed by a 30 minute hunt of find the news, with one reveal or two the next day max). They didn't commit to pushing all of their announcements all at once, and they didn't commit to spreading them all out -- they had an bad in-between.

Well I've had my sodium intake for the week.

What a joke. Nintendo's new IPs looked fine visually given what the hardware is capable of. Games like Bayonetta 2 looked great and ran at a better framerate than almost every other game shown at E3. Nintendo provided a constant stream of gameplay footage instead of teaser trailers and pre-recorded videos.

You claimed that there was a "sea change" in Nintendo's favor.

According to sales data, the public perception of Nintendo is not changing.

You don't get to claim that Nintendo is turning everything around, then insist that no one bring up the single quantifiable factor which actually determines whether your claim has any merit.

I didn't care much for their actual presentation (Splatoon didn't impress me until the tree house, some parts lingered on for too long, and using the same game as an opener and closer is a bit sad), but everything else they did more than made up for it.

Sales data was never going to turn around in a day. E3 is just when games are announced, not when they're released. Perception =/= Sales

Sorry if it read that way. But I meant a change in some of the public perception of Nintendo. Nothing else.

Will the Wii U do better then the Dream Cast? Who knows. My mind isn't even on Wii U right now, it's on Nintendos next console. It's good they are getting momentum back though.

I thought all of the Big 3 had solid shows. But I'd give Nintendo the edge.

Yeah, that means nothing. Wii U will still finish a distant third.

Xenoblade... totally a low of the show. It hurt me just seeing it.

Those other people don't even watch E3 either way lol. This is just a poll showing that people on IGN really liked what Nintendo did so it obviously isn't going to reflect a large amount of the gaming community or sales.

I never claimed or in any way inferred that sales data would turn around in a day, nor did I say anything to even remotely indicate a belief that games would be released at E3.

Your response has absolutely no relation to what I wrote, and even taken on its own is nothing but platitudes.

I was posting a mild response to someone who straight up called my opinion stupid. Hold your horses.

You couldn't understand the obvious sarcasm despite it being spoilered and with a heart (<3) at the end? Which was only said because you compared anyone who thought Nintendo did better than Sony or Microsoft at E3 to a group that committed murder-suicide just because this poll disagreed with your opinion?

Because that seems like the opposite of mild to me.

It's still doing terribly in Japan.

PS4's still doing worse, and the Xbox One hasn't even been released there, so that's kind of pointless.
