I'm starting to bald and it's bringing me down

I have noticeably been balding since being a teenager. It definitely made me self conscious. It took shaving my head to get over it, and since I started doing that over a decade ago, I haven't missed having hair.

It's happening to me. I'm slowly accepting the horrifying realization that my body is beginning to rot away. I was once a Samson with the strength of 10000 tigers, now I barely have the strength of single kitten.

For me, winter has already come.

Why are there a bunch of liars in this thread that are saying being bald is sexy and awesome.

You have to bulk up and grow facial hair, wear nicer clothes. If you put effort into appearance, it can be pulled off. A lot of people with hair don't even try, those are the people you have to beat lol.

I just started using finasterid / propecia for a few days and felt really strange in my head and my heart started racing like crazy after the third day so I guess I have to stop using it now? I started reading then on the internet about all those people who got horrible side effects ... are there any other options ?

My hairline is receding a little bit, but I'm still otherwise rocking a full head of hair, thankfully. Also, the pic in the OP is debatable. It's not really noticeable.

The shape of your head lends you to be a good candidate for a clean shaven head though.

I'm not balding and I do it anyway. And love it.

Just go with it and make the best out of it, keep your hair short and it becomes a non-issue, what if people notice? As long as you are comfortable who cares what they think.

Im with you. And no "embrace the bald" just doesnt seem to work for my head. I look better with hair. It has made me really depressed

Funny to see this thread bumped, I think the pics just showed bad angles, because everyone I've asked in person said it looks normal

i think the process is to repeatedly panic end of days style, but its pretty gradual. By the time its in bad enough shape for people notice it, youve already chilled about it

!!!

Atleast you made it to 30!

I started balding when I was 17 and by 19 I looked like a 40 year old with hair on my head.

I had a badass due too.

I started balding in my mid 20s. It didn't really bother me since I always cut my head like one notch above bald anyway lol. I just started to shave it off completely.

Honestly I like it. Feels good when touched :3

I think the internet is waaaaay to negative when it comes to this topic. I mean yeah it's a bummer but it's not the end of the world.

I started to get less hair around 25 years old. I lost my full set of hair the coming few years.

I'm sorry that it is also happening to you. But you got a choice to make. The choice is absolutely clear for me. Whine and bitch about it for some days of self pity then god damn put your focus on what you can change and achieve in your life.

Finasteride.
The generic is $4 for 3 months supply with insurance.
Worth it.

Get a pill cutter and turn that 5milligram pill into 4 1.25mg. taking more than 1.25 per day is worthless.

It just a huge hit to me, I kinda figured I would take after my dad, who has really thick hair. I've just turned 30 this year and I guess it's all down hill from here.

There are medications that can stop male heritable hair loss and in some cases even grow hair back.Talk with your dermatologist about Propecia/Finasteride:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finasteride

It's not cheap but also not overly expensive nowadays.

By the way, heritable hair loss usually starts at the temples then goes over to the scalp. How are your temples looking? If they are still full your bald spot might just be a unusual hair growth pattern.

I just went an bought me a cordless clipper.

Hope my head can pull it off. Aint gonna go full shave. Leave an inch up top.

I took Propecia for years with no problems. Once the generic version (Finasteride) came out I began taking that. Here is what Propecia will do for you:

It stops
(greatly slows)
hair loss but will not regrow hair.

I feel like my hair is a bit thin. Its definitely thin on the crown with some recession in the front. Did some research and had an online consultation with what appeared to be one of the top hair transplant surgeons in the country (usa). He quoted me $8,000 for the procedure.
If it had been ~$5000 I would have probably done it.

So I plan on just continuing to take Finasteride and then if it ever gets REALLY bad (im only 32) then I will do that hair transplants. But till then, I've learned some very valuable tricks and cuts so I feel like my hair looks better now than it ever has.

Do you feel any side effects? Do you also take minoxidil?

I did not experience any side effects. However, a relative of mine did. But what was interesting was he felt the side effects like a week after he started taking it. So I believe you either are or aren't effected and its not something that will gradually sneak up on you.

I did do an entire cycle Minoxidil as well. Honestly, I didn't notice a damn thing. And looking at the before and after "testimonial" pics are such bullshit to me.
I took before pics and when comparing it was completely negligible. So to avoid the pain in the ass of using the stuff I stopped taking it.

After my consult with the surgeon he told me something similar. Even after a hair transplant surgery you still continue to take Finasteride but no creams or drops or any of that crap.

Oh you have a little teeny tiny beginning of a bald spot at 30? Psh. Your one of the lucky ones.

My hair started receeding at 17. Now mid 20s and the whole top of my head grows about a third as much as the sides, forcing me to shave or look like a hobo.

I met my wife 10 years ago after I began shaving my head. When I rocked all the hairstyles and products I had nothing but bad luck with the ladies. I still remember our first date she asked if she can rub my head, I said not until after a dinner and movie. And here I am with a girl well beyond my league, married, 10 years later.

how much do you have to pay for Finasteride every month?

I'm getting a hair transplantation done in either Turkey or Hungary in the next couple months, for roughly 2000€. I look about ten years younger than I am, but the receding hairline at my temples seriously harms my self-image

You can always tattoo it:

That looks awesome, until the day after shaving your head and real hair starts sprouting.

I think my hair has thinned a bit in the forward center, and think the front sides near the hairline have went up over the years, but I still have nice hair. I'm a thin guy and probably can't do a beard, so when the time comes for bald, I'll probably look a little weird, especially since I have a boyish face. Oh yeah, and I have plenty of grey on the sides too.

My hair is thinning. Real bad. No one else in my family has it this bad. Still thick enough to not show the way I wear my hair, but hat hair shows my true colors. So I just wear my LA hat and never take it off. Need a haircut soon though.

I'm gonna look like Jorah Mormont by the time I'm 30 probably

Eh you're not alone, I just turned 25 and I'm slowly noticing hair loss in the front. Not sure if it was genetic/inherited or because of the many years growing up that I wore a ballcap everywhere. In the end I just accept it and enjoy having short shaved hair.

I had long metal-head hairs for a loooong ass time, man.

It broke my heart when I realized I was looking 10 years older because the baldness was taking more space with time passing by.

Once I went bald last year though, it surprisingly looked good, it showed as well because I made GF shortly after and that was something I was hunting for a while before going to the clipper.

Go for it man.

I grow a goatee to compensate. :3

Just think of the positive.

+No grey hairs
+No longer have to go for hair cuts, thus saving money.
+ Adds 10% more manliness
+ Cools your head in the summer.

Yeah, don't forget sunscreen though or the consequence is very not fucking fun. :lol

In all honesty, minoxidil only costs about 60 a year, and from what I've heard if you start it early in the process like you are, then it can stop it and reverse it. You just have to remember to apply it twice a day.

I mean, you can approach it like your teeth. Yeah, you don't have to bresh your teeth, but as Neil Degrasse Tyson says, brush only the ones you want to keep.

If you want to keep your hair, use minoxidil I guess,

I noticed balding when I hit 30 too OP. I have diffused thinning so I've lost density mostly. Toppik has been a godsend but lately I've been using more of it so I decided to just buzz my head.

Considering SMP (scalp micropigmentation or hair tattoo) in the near future. I'm avoiding Propecia/Finasteride/Minoxidil at all costs. The potential side effects are a deal breaker for me and honestly the drugs are too new to know how they ultimately will affect the chemistry of your body in the long run. Some people may not ever experience side effects but personally it's not worth it to me.

Two of my friends are taking Propecia, one has zero sides, the other has seen a severe drop in libido and can't even get off anymore. Take that as you will.

Have you watched Curb Your Enthusiasm yet? It's a full-throated defense of baldness that honestly leaves you thinking that people with hair are all assholes.

Haven't seen this but don't doubt it. Every guy I know with a full head of hair in his 30s is damn proud and has little sympathy or understanding of what balding/bald men go through.

Yeah I stopped taking it after three weeks, I really felt dizzy and couldnt concentrate on anything. Really messed with my thinking. Def not worth it taking this medication
