In this thread: Penny Arcade once again shows their undying Microsoft loyalty

You can also become a "real gaffer" if you survive at least 3 bannings.

What are the conditions for those three?

Cause I've been through four.

-General Stupidity
-Sexist comments
-Conspiracy theorist(which was in jest)
-Ban bet

Actually make that five I forgot one:
-Personal attack

I'm saying that when they're writing a specialized piece like this, they shouldn't be afraid to go in depth for the people that are more in the know. That's pretty reasonable.

They weren't really even specialized pieces, really. They were just broad insights into a particular market that, contrary to popular beliefs around here, not everyone had much of an insight into. Think about it, are you really saying that those shouldn't exist?

You can claim that the article was "mediocre" or poorly written, or whatever. I didn't debate any of those things. The point is, we have people who are so myopically invested in their consoles of choice that they'll go to ridiculous lengths to fit everything they can into their worldview at the cost of any kind of reasonable (or sane) feedback. Those are the retards; as far as I'm concerned, the less of them there are, the better.

Don't become one of those people, DX.

What the fuck is wrong with all of you? All of this over a comic? Evilore might have to ban the entire internet when the game actually releases.

Nah man, half of the internet will be preoccupied with STREET FIGHTYA FO.

It's like the 90's versus the 00's in February!

On topic, I'd wait to see Gabe's take, if he has any, before saying it's meant to be taken at face value.

They were given the tools, and the time, and three years into the life of the system the only surprise would be if they hadn't delivered something noteworthy.

Hah that reminded me of this speech from KZ1:

Scolar Visari: In the time you have given me, I have rebulit our nation, I have rebuilt out strength, and I have rebuilt our pride!

Hey, I've been banned for two of those. Although I still maintain that Dragona just didn't get that sharp knees joke. >_> <_<

I'm not saying these articles shouldn't necessarily exist. I' am criticising it from the standpoint of a gamer and someone who spends a decent amount of time reading up on the industry as a whole. To a typical GAFfer, such an article isn't even worth reading or posting on the forums, which is more of what I'm reacting to. How the hell do gamers concern themselves with such articles to the point of treating them seriously? I can totally understand criticism of the publications themselves for the articles. The bashing was immature, but the negative reaction was totally warranted. The PS3 needs criticism, that much is obvious(and this is coming from a PC gamer who considers it his console of choice this gen pretty much) but it needs to be better criticism.

I've survived one Penny Arcade thread massive banning.

Apparently, posting that you're 'bailing out' of a thread doesn't actually bail you out. Its better to not get involved at all.

You can be negative without being batshit insane. Time and Variety weren't the ones who posted their stuff here. Just sayin' :lol

As predictable as our kind are, you sure can expect the unexpected around here.

This thread is GAF, crystallized into its purest form.

Dark wizards shall harvest it, using its power for dark rituals to gain unspeakable power.

At least we can still tell it's a PA thread. :p

Interest pieces are supposed to be written for an audience with SOME amount of prior knowledge on a subject. Why the fuck would Time or Variety write an article for grandpa who doesn't know shit about gaming? That makes no sense.

They're not really writing about the PS3 itself. They're writing about the hugely negative impact the PS3 is having on Sony's bottom line, and some of the history behind it.

The health of Sony as a company is certainly a "general interest" type article.

I can't wait to get home, bust out my thread extracter and smoke this shit to my brain so I can forget everything I've just read.

Wow, the amount of fail in this thread in trying to find the funny in this PA comic is amazing.

Is atheist GAF really this dense? I find it hard to believe that many people have never been to a sunday school as a child at least a few times.

the reference is not lost on most, but they're agonizing over (or were, before the news post went up) whether the strip is praising Killzone sincerely or mocking it's fans.

Why can't it be both? From the looks of the diehards it fits. PA is pretty clever in their humor...and some of us can laugh at ourselves as well.

I hope we can.

And it was mentioned earlier, but their is a third facet to the strip. A dig on Xbox with their RROD's.

I thought PA did a good job overall. Of course I like it when jokes/strips can be interepreted different ways...and actually stick.

I'm having flashbacks to littlebigplanet.

I doubt very many sony fans expect KZ2 to do much of anything about PS3's 'struggle' on the marketplace.

There seems to be a perverse perception that the hype surrounding any major PS3 game reflects an expectation among 'sony fans' that the game will be a market-changer. There are definitely folks who have held such expectations, who may hold such expectations about KZ2 - and maybe they're worth poking fun at in a comic - but I would say they're in a small minority.

I've been no means part of the KZ2 hype parade, but I was there for LBP, and there for the same mocking resentment of hype for the game. The implication seemed to be that a fan of a game couldn't express too much excitement for a game unless it was going to 'save' PS3. There were literally people coming into LBP threads trying to downplay it with reference to sales, as if to ask "why the excitement? it's going to bomb!". It's a sales-age orientation run amuck.

I also think that regardless, GAF has a pretty good way of killing hype for undeserving games. Every game seems to attract its 'advocates' who hype, whether that hype gains traction or not is another matter. Usually GAF tosses aside games reasonably quickly after release if they're deemed to be not particularly worthy of it.

I've stated this before, but since it's brought up, what the heck. It seems to me that the problem isn't that Sony fans are hyping something, afterall, as has been mentioned, people on all sides seem to hype up things. The difference being is that it seems like the B-C tier games that are published by Sony tend to be deified. People getting hyped up for MGS4 was a different matter because that game is from a series that's been highly regarded. Whereas with Killzone 2, well it's a sequel to a C-range title, yet has attained apotheosis. Now, the fortunate thing is that Killzone 2, unlike many of the other Sony saviors such as Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet, has so far managed very good reviews, but before, most of the hype came off as wanting validation more than simply wanting an awesome game to enjoy.

I can completely understand people getting angry at the 'wait for x' meme, but hey, stereotypes exist for a reason.

Why do I always get these lavalife ads when there's a forum fanboy war?

It's like it's trying to tell us, "stop it with your fanboy bickering and get a girl!".
