In your opinion, rank the Daniel Craig Bond films

1/ Skyfall
I surprise myself a bit with this. Film took a while to kick in for me; but its amazing overall.

2/ Casino Royale
A great great spy thriller. But not as perfect as sometimes claimed; I've never liked the final fight; and generally I find the passing of time to have Vesper/Bond fall so in love wasn't done well by the director.

3/ Quantum of Solace
The directors decision to show an upskirt shot of a supposed rape victim in such a casual unnecessary tells you all you need to know about that film. What the fuck was that about?

I had two weeks to think about it.

Casino Royale > Skyfall >>> Quantum of Solace

QoS is not a bad movie and worthy in the Bond franchise but it pales in comparison to Skyfall and CR. Either way, Craig could stop right now and be viewed as the second best Bond of all time.

1. Casino Royale (Has the edge in action, momentum and Bond girl, feels like a better film to show to non Bond Fans)
2. Skyfall (Mendes made Bond his own while giving Bond geeks fans a ton of fanservice and is beautiful)
3. Quantum of Solace (Waste of time aside from the first and last five minutes and Bond gets his closure for Vesper).

I agree with your mini-reviews, only for me they are reason to switch 1 and 2.

This is what I remember about QoS:

Dunno, I think CR and Skyfall are pretty much on the same level to me, but for different reasons; one's a renovated, gritty, very non-Bond movie while the other goes back to its roots and has tons of fanservice for longtime fans. I think I'll give the edge to CR only because I've watched it quite the number of times, but I'm betting as soon as I rewatch Skyfall I'll be reconsidering that call, Skyfall is one beautiful movie. Both are incredibly good movies. Also, QoS gets a lot of underserved shit. It was no CR, but it wasn't total shit either.

1 Casino Royale
1.00001 Skyfall
2 QoS

I wouldn't even be mad if Craig's next movie ranked below Skyfall, there's plenty of awesome space in between those last two.

Skyfall
Casino Royale
Question of Sports (as they say)

but really, there are only three and QoS is so far below the others it's hardly a ranking. The Barbados and Miami scenes in CS were really unremarkable compared with the rest of the film.

People who think Skyfall is better than Casino Royale are just as deluded as people who think Skyfall is worse than Quantum of Solace.

1 - Casino Royale
2 - Skyfall
3 - Quantum of Solace

Skyfall has the best villain out of the 3.

but, Casino Royal's story, sense of tention, pacing, and ending cant be beaten.

I'm definitely going to be in the minority for thinking that Skyfall is the weakest of the three. But that's fine. That's how opinions work.

Exactly. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and we shouldn't judge them for that.

It just so happens that your opinion is WRONG.

1 - Casino Royale

This, right here.

While I enjoyed Skyfall and its characters were fantastic, its raving popularity is a bit confusing. Casino Royale still comes out on top overall for me.

1. Casino Royale
=1. Quantum of Solace
=1. Skyfall

I'm a fan of each for very different reasons. The things I read about Quantum of Solace, you'd think it was an hour and a half of Bond slamming his own cock in a screen door. I get the dislike; I don't get the vehement dislike - as if it's some bizarre, poorly executed departure from the Bond formula.

Casino Royale > Skyfall > QoS.

Skyfall was good, but a bit dull and badly paced.

Let's not forget the scene where Bardem destroys a wall in a comical way so a train can crash down exactly where Bond is standing. That shit took me so much out of the movie because of its impracticality.

To me, Skyfall felt like they needed to come up with a creative 2 hour way to let Judi Dench gracefully leave the Bond films.

the plot was ridiculous.

Casino >>>>>>Skyfall>QoS

Skyfall executes about as well on the action as you can expect from a Bond film, but all the emotional beats were extremely forced and didn't resonate at all in comparison to Casino, which was very subtle and astonishing in this regard.

1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. From Russia With Love
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
5. The Spy Who Loved Me
6. Goldfinger
7. Goldeneye
8. For Your Eyes Only
9. The Living Daylights
10. Dr. No
11. Quantum of Solace

There you go. Not only the top three Craig Bonds, but the Bonds that go inbetween them to give some semblance of context. (I might swap Goldfinger for Spy Who Loved Me, but otherwise, I'm pretty solid with this.)

I don't understand people complaining about implausibility as a knock against Skyfall when they're simultaneously praising Casino Royale. Honestly, complaining about implausibility in any Bond (even going all the way back to Dr. No) seems silly, to me.

Alright, you guys have convinced me. My radically altered, revised list:

1. Casino Royale
2. Quantum of Solace
=2. Skyfall

Casino Royale has a more interesting structure and it's a great character piece, but I think Skyfall is a thematically stronger film. Both have incredible action, although Skyfall gains a slight edge from Deakins. At the end of the day, they're both of similar quality..and they play well alongside one another. Right now, I'd probably place Skyfall a smidgeon above, but that might just be because it's brand new.

Skyfall=Casino Royale > Quantum of Solace

Skyfall = Casino Royale >>> Quantum of Solace

Skyfall is up there because of Javier Bardem imo. Even though I don't think he was really really great he was memorable and somewhat over the top; it's what the other two Daniel Craig bonds were missing.

If we're talking realism, there's basically nothing in Skyfall that is quite as implausible as Bond actually winning that poker game in Casino Royale.

1. Skyfall. Love it. Truly Fleming's Bond. Anyone who moans about the whole backstory, even saying its a copy of Batman's parents and upbringing obviously don't know the original Fleming novels, and the 1962 OHMSS novel that introduced the backstory.

2. Casino Royale. Love it. Love the novel, and the film is a damn fine adaptation of it as far as the middle section of the film is concerned. However, the final third (le chiffre's death onwards) just isn't good.

3. QOS. Good, but shallow.

After seeing Skyfall again, it really didn't hold up :(. I guess I was blinded by all the old school references and my Bond fandom got in the way. Still, dat ending.

Casino Royale
Skyfall
QOS

It just so happens that your opinion is WRONG.

Meh.

Skyfall was fucking gorgeous, but the plot was a total clusterfuck and I find its handling of M bizarre and off-putting.

For all the shit it gets (a lot of which is based on its frenetic cinematography, which I certainly understand), Quantum of Solace is taut and effective, and features probably the most Fleming-esque storyline of any of the wholly original Bond films.

1 Casino Royale
1.00001 Skyfall
2 QoS

I was actually pretty shocked when I saw so much hate for QOS. Maybe I rank it high because of the insane action scenes. IMO, it has some of best action ever shot.

Shoot me now but my rank is:
CR
QoS
Skyfall

Skyfall seemed rushed to me and felt more like an action film(with little action) than an actual 007 movie. I know they are going more realistic with the Daniel Craig movies but Skyfall went so realistic where it made Bond boring.

1. casino royale - basically everything i love about bond crammed into one film. masterful reboot of a struggling series. love it so much.
2. quantum of solace - brutal, tight, character piece effectively exploring bond's spiraling reaction to the end of the previous film. takes the character to some very interesting places. i also like its politics which is rare for a bond film. majora's mask to casino's ocarina of time.
3. skyfall - awkward mixture of camp and casino bond, but filled with great individual scenes. bardem is good, dench being the bond girl is good and it's remarkably well shot but it's much less than the sum of its parts.

I gave Skyfall the nod over CR because it had the better villain and in a Bond film, a memorable villain is important. Le Chiffre was just some glorified accountant who was good at poker and was intimidated by random African soldiers.

As just a regular movie, I could see the argument as CR being better, but its such a 1a, 1b ranking between the two.

So better Bond film: Skyfall
Better regular film: CR.
