| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
Hey! I assume you are new in this thread series and want to see what we were up to? Or you didnt have enough time to play through all of the games from the last month but still want to catch up with the best ones? Then this list is for YOU! These were the games we enjoyed the most in the previous thread, voted on by the community (More thorough descriptions and impressions in the previous thread, especially the last few pages with the voting):
1. Environmental Station Alpha - Free demo (PC)
A9ChPw5.gif
http://www.hempuli.com/esa/
Really solid metroidvania. The demo leaves players wanting for more. Diverse areas, precision-heavy platforming and shooting, the usual upgrades to find through exploration. The pixel art is colorful and it's just a fun very well-made game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. hets - Free (PC)
oNYyiO.gif

http://ditto.itch.io/hets

A really addictive and stylish roguelite action shooter. Progress through rooms filled with increasing amount of deadly enemies, as you jump, dodge, and kill everything to open the gate to the next level. The shooting feels really forceful and satisfying, and I liked the varied power-ups that granted you a bullet shield, personal turret, multi-shot, and more. It has a Broforce + Risk of Rain vibe, with a cool abstract art style and atmosphere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. Return of the Obra Dinn - Free demo (PC, Mac)
4q%2BDtZ.png
http://dukope.itch.io/return-of-the-obra-dinn
Sensational concept. It's clearly very early on, but it looks fantastic and has a really unique hook to it. Neat touch that it's not an "action" game but has very serious moments of drama in it. Definitely one to keep an eye on, and definitely worth checking right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

4. Here and There along the Echo - Free (PC, Mac, Linux)
25zgfsl.png

http://kentuckyroutezero.com/here-and-there-along-the-echo/

That is the most interesting telephone interactive fiction narrative you are going to experience ever and damn funny. Kentucky Route Zero creators are weird in the best way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5. Tribal & Error - Free demo (PC)
outside_teaser-366x366.jpg
http://www.tribalanderror.com/demo
A very unique game, in which you are tasked to translate caveman language, and use the words you learned to instruct those cavemens to do something.It is conceptually a game about words and communication and has no language barrier at all, since everyone playing translates into his own language. Quite elegant. Its only a short alpha, but it works surprisingly well and its definitely something to be on the lookout for in the future. Highly recommended to check out the alpha.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
The Awakening - Free (Browser)
13726.jpg
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/647411
"The title of Rock Lou's ambitious RPG The Awakening is pretty apt, since the game begins with our amnesiac hero jolting awake in alone in a strange forest with one heckuva headache. What are the odds he's got a big destiny, do you think? With a character customization so deep you can choose your level of squint (though bizarrely not your gender) and battle system that adds some twists to the turn-based formula, The Awakening is a huge and ambitious RPG that is sadly still unpredictably buggy"
Environmental Station Alpha is yet another game I might have never known about if not for these threads, so thanks for that Toma.
Loved the demo and the music, but I hope they change the button mapping for the final game as the layout didn't seem to be made by someone used to a controller. Also the hookshot took a little while to get comfortable with, because you only get one fast swing and it doesn't reset your (double) jump. Other than that it seemed like a lovely take on the Metroid formula and we can never have too many of those.
Malebolgia looks gorgeous. It's like Indie Souls. Love this thread, and the past ones as well during my lurking days.
I don't know if you're open to adding suggestions or whatnot, but Chroma Squad;
Is a pretty cool SRPG based on Japanese Sentai (Power Rangers). You film your show each week, and there's a season finale and all that good stuff, its fourth wall breaking fun. It's highly customizeable, from your squad's look, the character's look, their suit color, their names, your sentai team name, your transformation call, your mech, your mech's etc; it's pretty impressive for a game that hasn't even been released yet, and I don't really see many people talking about it? I've been having fun playing it.
Here's the site with more info and whatnot. It says it was supposed to be released around Summer 2014 for PC/MAC and late 2014 for other platforms, but I'm not sure if they mean early access or full release
Glad to hear that game is still ticking along. After its legal troubles and silence I gotta admit I was expecting the worst. Although they urgently need to update their site so the expected release date hasn't already passed cos it is really putting me off opening my wallet.
Steam-Origin merger? Details please
EA is buying Valve, turning Half-Life 3 into an annual franchise (that's right, with the 3 in the title for each entry), and cancelling the Christmas sale.
I've also seen some Nintendo developers ask for help in the forums for Steamworks integration, but I don't know what that means.
I dunno. I love the sprite work and the culture. Also, I highly recommend checking out all the hilarious trailers. : ]
Chroma Squad is a cool concept, is it out now finally? I am pretty sure we featured the demo/alpha over 6 months ago in a thread.
Awesome, just saw that you posted GunWorld on here, which is a game I designed, so thanks! We're really close to getting Greenlit on Steam, so if you like it please vote on it.
We're also running a contest to see who can be the first person to beat the game. The challenge level is really high, and so far only two people have managed to arrive at the final boss, one of them able to beat it. The "winner" was a personal friend of mine and opted out of the prize in favor of an actual fan/player receiving it. The winner will receive every game we ever make for free. Just make sure you're streaming/archiving the game on Twitch and tweet it at us so we know.
My The Deer God Let's Play - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6QnOGc7dR8
This game is quite pretty. All of the environments use clean colored voxels and all characters in the game are 2D sprites, with that pixel art style that (at least the first I saw of it(Also, which I am a fan)) debuted with Sword and Sworcery.
Gameplay wise, It's metroidvania-ish with quasi-perma-death. You can give yourself another life by mating with other deer, but if you die without mating, it's GG.
Storywise, it's ... well. Curious. I am genuinely intrigued, but the game seemingly seems to be pseudo-randomly generated. Going right appears to be the correct course of action, but eventually you find yourself back to square one, only when you go right again, the terrain is different.
At this point I can't honestly tell if the game isn't finished because of Early Access or if I'm missing something.
Either way, I recommend it.
What is it called when your game failus on Kickstarter but still manages to see a release?
A successful release :) Actually I consider that even more impressive, because I can imagine that a failed campaign must be demoralizing, but to come through and keep working on a project and finish it is a great accomplishment
But even this day and age of FTL, Divinity, Wasteland 2, Shovel Knight, and more, there's still a stigma of Kickstarter being a scam or not delivering among some people even here on GAF, so it's great to see Kickstarted game get finished and released
Couldn't agree more on games like this. There are a lot of games I've really enjoyed that came from Kickstarter. You just have to research and gauge whether the dev is trustworthy and capable of completing the project.
We released GunWorld in 5 months, but had hoped for a dev cycle considerably longer than that. Because of that the game did come out, but with cut content and less polish than we would've hoped, but we're still really proud of it. We hope that will only help our reputation should we attempt Kickstarter again in the future.
Bought that Deer God, that is pretty cool they are basically done with the game if it's only early access for a month.
A lot of these games look very awesome, I need to check all of these out when I get home from work.
Thats the intention we start this thread with every month. And then it takes me 30 days to finish my voting list =p
Malebolgia looks gorgeous. It's like Indie Souls. Love this thread, and the past ones as well during my lurking days.
I don't know if you're open to adding suggestions or whatnot, but Chroma Squad;
Is a pretty cool SRPG based on Japanese Sentai (Power Rangers). You film your show each week, and there's a season finale and all that good stuff, its fourth wall breaking fun. It's highly customizeable, from your squad's look, the character's look, their suit color, their names, your sentai team name, your transformation call, your mech, your mech's etc; it's pretty impressive for a game that hasn't even been released yet, and I don't really see many people talking about it? I've been having fun playing it.
I was worried about the game development when Saban jumped on them.
And it's out: http://store.steampowered.com/app/318860
I'm expecting around a month or two of Early Access, during which I'll improve the combat and whatever else I get feedback on. And of course add in content.
Congrats!
Man, I think I missed most of the November thread to Isaac and Dragon Age (one of these games is much better than the other) and now I see more cool titles to check out in this month's thread.
Speaking of cool titles, Dungeonmans is releasing out of early access on December 9. I give it my highest recommendation (assuming you have even a passing interest in rogue-likes) and it is great for newcomers and genre regulars alike. While you won't find the incredible depth and complexity of traditional rogue-likes, there is enough to keep the game fresh each play-through while being welcoming for new players. I actually find myself switching classes almost every run because they are all fun and that is something I rarely do. The game also features a permanent progression system to take some of the sting out of your deaths or you can eschew that completely and go fresh each time. It also helps that UI isn't god awful which is a problem in many rogue-likes.
These screenshots are pretty old but I know screenshots help catch your eye when browsing so here we go:
Nice, just as I was sitting here lamenting the state of broken-ass AAA titles, Toma delivers with indie goodness.
I have no clue how these Indie releases stay interesting every single month. If I am being completely honest with myself, I think there was 1 month since the thread is running where I found all releases/featured games a bit boring and uninspired. 1 out of 21 threads.
Pitman is free today on Desura:
Didnt play it and intentionally overlooked it for the threads this year in favor of other games since it didnt look good. Free is free though, might give it a whirl.
0h h1 - Solid puzzle, the description explain it pretty well it's like Sudoku but instead the numbers you use colors. The main idea is pretty simple but works very well and it's a compelling and additive game, I downloaded it for my smartphone to have something to play during my daily commutes.
I got a lot of Let's Plays done. But you guys got to check out Dustbowl:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf3GCoZFOnQ
It's basically Point and Click Fallout. You can aim at different body parts, take quests. Pretty cool so far even though it's an early alpha.
Edit: It'll probably be done processing in a bit.
Thanks for posting, will check it out later :)
Could you create properly formatted posts for these games as well (Make an extra post, see OP)? Pretty sure we never included Dustbowl so far at least.
