We are always interested in getting to know more people with the same hobby. If you share our love for Indies, let us know! We talk about anything Indie, want to talk about the mess that DoubleFine is leaving behind? The depth(s) of Dwarf Fortress? Need recommendations? This is the right spot to ask! We'd also love to read more impressions :)

| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
Hey! I assume you are new in this thread series and want to see what we were up to? Or you didnt have enough time to play through all of the games from the last month but still want to catch up with the best ones? Then this list is for YOU! These were the games we enjoyed the most in the previous thread, voted on by the community (More thorough descriptions and impressions in the previous thread, especially the last few pages with the voting):
1. Halcyon 6 - $14.99 (Win, Mac)
ss_af63dec83724050a3f57e8c81ff5459f6832da4b.jpg
http://store.steampowered.com/app/371200
On the edge of Terran space lies Halcyon 6, a derelict starbase left behind by a mysterious precursor race. Your mission is to reclaim the derelict station and rebuild it. A mysterious alien force is making a beeline towards Earth and this starbase is the best chance for the New Terran Federation to establish new alliances, research new technologies and otherwise figure out a way to stop the impending invasion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Redcon - $5.99 (PC, IOS, Android)
s6.png

http://www.hexage.net/redcon/

The game is kind of like XCOM base building, plus FTL. You build your artillery base and then manage your weapons and soliders. Weapons have different shot types, you can send out airships to drop assault troops onto the enemy base, and there's a ton of weapons, rooms, and upgrades to choose from.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. Veer - $2.99 (PC, Mac)
ZUY2Nre.gif
http://store.steampowered.com/app/405530
A slick little gem of a puzzler that revolves around teleporting between totems that mirror your position. This allows for interesting spatial challenge that's a bit more complicated than just teleporting between spots, as you need to consider height, angle, and direction when you swap position. The challenge increases as more puzzle elements are introduced, such as foreground/background platforms, rotating levels, and more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3. Daily Chthonicle - Free beta (PC)
mr_hoffman.png

http://www.indiedb.com/games/daily-chthonicle

Its basically a text adventure RPG with a UI disguising the setup as a news paper agency. Send out reporters, decide on mini encounters, equip and train them and find the solutions to the mysteries throughout the cities. Good sense of progression, although it might seem a bit aimless at first. Definitely worth checking out. The incredibly confusing UI and styl over readability/non save games kept it from getting the highest praise, but maybe they will work on that for the full version.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. Pharaonic - $15.99 (PC, Mac, Linux)
hiypY7i.jpg
http://store.steampowered.com/app/386080
Its an action adventure game, which is mostly focussed around timing your actions correctly to block/evade and attack. Its rather simplistic, but they managed to slot the individual pieces together to a rather engaging whole, especially with the multi path side scrolling levels and the itemization/loot. The combat feels a bit sluggish, but offers decent variety if you take different weapon and item setups into account and the challenge is motivating enough to want to push forward. Strange thing, but worth checking out.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
It was? That good? I only ever played the demo
Yeah, Unepic still is a really great game. These were some older comments on it from users here:
"And Unepic is an amaaaaaaaaaaazing game. It basically plays like a non-random roguelike with witty dialogue and interesting level progression"
"I wrote and rewrote a personal review of this last month because it was about all I was playing but never posted it. All I found to bitch about was the swearing in the dialogue. I found the game to be incredibly funny and clever, then there's a "fuck" inserted and I just found it seemed out of place and unnecessary for some reason."
"An addicting mix of Metroidvania and straight RPG. Pretty hilarious in its original Spanish scrit, but there's tons of languages available, including English; they however reportedly kept the traditional Spanish foulmouthedness intact, so you might want to cover your ears... or eyes, I guess. Beautiful 2D visuals, atmospheric lighting and a forebonding soundtrack converge to create an ominous and truly engaging experience. Has a free demo that I've not beaten yet, so it must be quite long."
"I finally played the demo of Unepic. The game generally seems like it should be right up my alley, but everything about the setup and dialogue turned me off. It's a shame it's so needlessly vulgar, because the actual game seems sort of neat. I'll give it another try sometime."
And in response:
"It's worth pushing through. I found most of the 'comedy' in that game to be agonizingly unfunny and the menus are a little lacking. But after a few hours the quality of the gameplay shines through all its flaws. The use of light to signify explored and unexplored areas is a highlight for me."
Just added the notable June releases, but there are probably more. Let me know what I missed. :)
Also, downloading the Tomorrow Children PS4 Beta. Weekend Beta, in case you guys missed it. Super curious about that, gonna try later.
Nice, new thread! Don't forget to include the missed high profile stuff from April like Stephen's Sausage Roll and Offworld Trading Company
Finally done with adding the games. Some of those games look crazy interesting. Hoping to read some impressions from you guys eventually :)
And I really need to try Duskers again. The praise it gets from everyone makes me think I simply didnt get it and really need to give it another try.
Wrote some impressions of Mu Cartographer on my blog a few days ago
Mu Cartographer doesn't explain much. A mysterious device, a form of scanning console, with a slice of landscape in the center. The two sides of the game - the flat digital panel of dials, meters, switches and the circular window into a mysterious world - are inexorably linked; interacting with the console is your means to explore, and exploring gradually unlocks new means to interact.
But first you have to understand how to use the device at hand. You'll undoubtedly start with cautious inquisitive interactions, dragging and clicking each button and dial to see what it manipulates and how changing them affects the manipulation, and gradually what is a cluster of odd symbols and icons becomes something you understand. How one dial lets you zoom in and out, or move your central porthole across the land, or rotate the world, or perhaps even alter the environment itself.
With each twist and press and drag, the landscape shifts, dropping into steep canyons or impossibly jagged peaks, vast plains or rugged terrain, colors and hues shifting from grayscale to the blooming reds and yellows and greens and blues akin to infrared imagery. The world mutates with a satisfying fluidity that brings to mind clouds in the wind or a disturbed pool of water or the cross-sections of an MRI.
Seeing how your actions influence the land is enjoyable on its own, and endlessly gorgeous, but Mu Cartographer isn't merely an interesting piece of interactive art. There are secrets to be found, signs of civilizations amid the vast landscape, and perhaps by mastering the console, you'll be able to uncover more than just how to make the world look pretty...
Mu Cartographer is at once a gorgeous piece of digital art, a tactile puzzle to learn and master, and an an alien enigma to explore and discover.
That sounds awesome, definitely need to check that out this month. Always in for some good art experiences.
You guys have any E3 predictions?
- Rain World and Below will get their release dates, and come out this summer
- TinyBuild will probably have a solid presence, like Adult Swim and Devolver did before them, especially after how aggressively they were snatching up games to publish
- Tarsier Studios will have a new trailer/footage of Hunger and/or the other thing they've been teasing
- The console version of Prison Architect will get a trailer, or at least featured in Sony or Microsoft's indie montage trailer
- A big project will gets its Kickstarter announced on stage, and it will probably be System Shock 3
Hi all,
I wrote to More_Badass to know if I can talk about my own game here or not, and he give me an OK. So excuse me about this little of self promotion ^^U
After months of silence since I talked about my game in the Dev Indie Gaf thread, my teammates and I have finished our first PC game, TANKR.
TANKR - $11.99 (PC, Mac and Linux soon after the release)
ok99ilO.jpg
http://store.steampowered.com/app/444240
TANKR is a top-down arcade game about tanks, powerups, ricochet bullets and explosions. Local co-op mode with your friends in 100 levels, or against them in frenzy local & online multiplayer battles! You can design your own maps too!
TANKR will be released on Steam this Monday, June 6. Firstly on Windows and Mac/Linux soon after the release.
We're working in a little demo that we hope to have ready this week, we hope you like it.
Congrats, Nezzhill. Must feel great (and kind of terrifying) to finally put the finishing touches on a game and then release it into the wild. Good luck with the launch
You should add SteamWorld Heist to the list of games to be released in June.
More precisely on June 7.
I really liked SteamWorld Dig and the devs did a great job with the PC port. How did Heist turn out? Switching from a straight action game to turn-based is always a big jump!
Noticed that Ruiner is in the released section, should be in upcoming
House of the Dying Sun was confirmed for the 7th, $19.99 with a 10% discount
Keel-Haul - Late 2016 (PC)
http://summa-games.com/press/sheet.php?p=keel_haul
Keel-Haul is an assymmetrical multiplayer action game that pits the greatest pirate captains from across the seven seas against deadly sea monsters, in a battle for gold and glory. The game currently features local versus multiplayer, with 3 deadly pirate ships and a crafty Kraken.
Whoa. Nice to see this game take off after trying it at LevelUp Toronto a few months ago. Really liked the idea then. It needed a bit of fleshing out, but the core mechanics of stealing loot from other ships and avoiding the Kraken were solid, and being the kraken was even better. Should probably have kept the name Plunder though.
1) Duskers
2) Mu Cartographer
3) RYB
4) Gladiabots
===
Duskers
The universe is dead. You are alone. Supplies are dwindling. As the lone survivor in a galaxy gone silent, you travel from ship to ship, derelict barges and stations and outposts now drifting through space, staving off starvation or certain death by sending drones onto those empty vessels. You can control these drones through command lines; a method that may sound archaic and clunky, but is actually what makes Duskers so brilliant and immersive. Every command must be planned and carefully considered, because if something goes wrong - and it will - you must adapt and improvise on the fly.
VpwWoF3.png
Mu Cartographer
RYB
RYB is really good. If you liked Hexcells, you'll like this too. It's an abstract Minesweeper-style game where all the clues are told through symbols, shapes, and colors, which allows for unusual level designs that Hexcells and similar games never could have
RYB2.png
Gladiabots
An interesting mix of programming puzzler and RTS. You don't control your squad of armed machines directly, but rather create their AI to perform the challenge at hand. You can set drones to attack at certain ranges, perform multi-tiered action to grab and collect resources, retreat if shields are down, and so on. The AI is designed through an easy-to-use visual interface that lets you easily apply rules regarding movement, attacking, and different conditions.
The current early alpha only features tutorial missions to teach players how to program, but the developers plans to add solo missions and multiplayer, different bot classes with unique abilities, customization and upgrades, and a map editor.
This looks exactly like the mini game inside of Wii Play. Not that it's a bad thing. How is online multi?
Thanks. We're really nervous because we haven't a lot of time to promote the game, and we couldn't delay the release date more time. But at the same time, we're really happy to finish the game and make it available to the public.
Yes, as our first commercial game we wanted to develop a relatively simple arcade game and we love the Bomberman games and the tank minigame of the Wii, so we think that more people would like to play something like that in PC.
The online game is up to 4 players in a P2P connection with one player is the host. We've a list of public or Steam friends servers that you can join. This mode is a deathmatch mode between the players until one of them wins 3 rounds.
We wanted to have our own servers for more quality control of the servers, but this is the best that we could achieve right now (we've developed all the game without money). If the game sells relatively well, we want to expand the online mode to add our own servers.
Was originally going to get Heist and Dying Sun on Tuesday, but then I remembered Transmission's KS is the same day
Think I'll probably go with Heist, and save the other for later. Heist seems like the kind of game I've fall in love with instantly. Although it is coming to iPad...
What exactly are people talking about when they say "that new Unepic game"?
Did the developers release a sequel? Another game? Did the original release for another platform?
Apologies if I'm obnoxious, but after what happened I don't think the Lynn and Spirits of Whatever Kickstarter should be kept in the post-OP. Regardless of politics and such, game just seems to not be in progress anymore.
Yeah, I'm also curious - the giantbomb video made it seem like a lot of fun.
edit: Jeez, June is looking like a strong month for indies. Lots of interesting titles this time around.
What happened?
Their are accusation that the team behind the game took advantage of unpaid interns to work on the project. Which is unpleasent in itself but to make matters worse it seems the company may have forced some of these interns to sign contracts that basically say they have been paid despite not being to get around French laws that protect against this kinda thing. True or not though, as Stan said, the kickstarter was cancelled and it looks like the game won't be going ahead.
