inFAMOUS: Second Son runs at 1080p and 30FPS

This type of game does not need 60fps.

Give me a big fidelity boost over 60fps in this type of title anyday.

Heck on my PC I almost always, no matter the title, increase effects to keep around 30fps. Been playing Grid 2 @ 30fps for awhile now. As long as you can get the framerate to be solid, steady, not many ups and downs, your set. Maybe that is just me.

I'm more immersed at 60.

The performance of a game directly effects the gameplay experience. I will play this as I feel it's probably going to be the first 'must have" title for the PS4, but I can't say I'm not a little disappointed.

i was really hoping for 60fps on this.

Anyone expecting 60 frame this game is crazy.
it's about raising the bar though, if ive been gaming 60+fps for two years on a mid range nvidia, i should expect it on my next-gen console, it's not crazy at all.

that being said im a huge fan of infamous 1 and 2, and the framerates in those was about 17, so there's no way am i not getting this.

Which games were you running two years ago that are as intensive as inFamous SS and getting 1080p 60FPS?

I've never played an amazing action game that ran at anything less than 60fps. There's plenty of decent ones at 30fps, but nothing amazing.

Well, the build I saw demonstrated at Gamescom was running at an unlocked framerate. It could go up to 60 fps but seemed to run over 30 fps most of the time. If they couldn't hold 60 I think locking to 30 makes the most sense.

I think this is the key thing.

60fps but with drops is much, much worse than a solid 30fps. By an order of magnitude worse in terms of the user experience.

Infamous might be able to run at 60fps for portions of the game, but if there are drops to 45fps or lower at certain and/or regular sections, then they have a decision to make on whether to lock at 30 or stick with variable. The correct answer to that should always be to lock at 30.

I prefer 60fps in 100% of cases and there is always a bit of me that's dissapointed when I read about a game running at 30, but at the same time a flat, solid and locked 30 isn't going to diminish my enjoyment of what I'm sure will be a terrific game. Drops from 60 would have.

Don't give a rat's ass about the game not being 60fps. It looks incredible graphically and if it's locked at 30 then job's a good'un.

Uh, that's false. My 780 can run at 60 most of the time at 1080p, Ultra settings.

We would need to see video proof of your magic 780, a Titan/780 are in the 40's the majority of the time with all settings at ultra. 680 SLI or greater paired with a high clocked HT enabled processor is needed for a solid 1080p60 at all times.

Wow I love how little backlash this Sony exclusive is getting

I'll be amazed if the frame rate axually turns out to be rock solid

Have you seen this game?

This isn't DR3 or Ryse here with static backgrounds and barely anything truly " next gen " going on. This is open world, destructible environments, insane lighting / reflective effects, very detailed models / environments, high resolution textures, 1080p native, realistic cloth physics, insane particle effects, etc. etc. etc.

That is what you expect from a first party exclusive. Not 720p x sub-30fps with character models from a 2nd generation 360 title.

WTF. A Titan can spit any current game out @ 1080p well above 60fps with everything turned on to the max. The only thing that really knocks the Titan down below 60fps is much higher resolutions.

This is Battlefield 4 ultra @ 1080p in Beta. Performance is MUCH smoother for all cards with the actual release product.

30fps is perfectly fine with a game like inFamous where traversal isn't that fast. I could never accept it in something like DriveClub, but for infamous, it's fine.
30fps and rock solid don't belong in the same sentence. It's a juddery mess.
You don't seem to know what judder means.

I don't care if a game is 30 or 60fps.

Long as it's a game that holds my interest and is fun i will play it and this game looks awesome. A lot of people are going to continue to be disappointed this gen expecting everything to be 1080/60. At least in the first to second year of the system.

yeah not like those 30fps defense forcers.
Not even close. 60fps brigade is hyperbole city.

You know why i prefer the "30fps defense force"? Because instead of bitching on forums about how something isn't 60fps they are enjoying the game.

30fps is what it is, it can't be a juddery mess unless it no longer is 30fps.

Yes it can.

Locked 60 fps feels smooth, locked 30fps feels juddery.

He's not talking about inconsistent skips, he's talking about the low frame-rate not being smooth. Which it isn't.

Good post.

I love how people want to turn this in to bad news. And are completly forgeting its a open world game, destructible environments, insane lighting / reflective effects, very detailed models / environments, high resolution textures, 1080p native, realistic cloth physics, insane particle effects.

Mods should realy take action on some people here

I'd say that this is why i own a WiiU, but WiiU has been killing it with 60fps for a lot of their first party titles lately.

lol exactly

There are just as many trying to damage control the 30FPS with some of these games as there is the "60FPS or bust" crowd

Regardless, there are genuinely people (like myself) that for a lot of types of games would take a rock solid 30fps with better visuals over 60fps with inferior visuals. That is the way I roll on PC as well. 60fps for me is only absolutely essential in action games such as Revengence and NG

You are arguing with a different game than what is being discussed. Play Crysis 3 @ Ultra 1080p and you will not see 60fps+ on a Titan unless you are looking at a wall or floor.

Unrealistic expectations are annoying and the hyperbole they spew. I got a PC that can run games at 60 fps on many games and I won't complain at a console game running at 30 that is a sandbox. Most games will be 30 fps. Aand another thing Infamous has never been 60 fps. Look up at the sky and play if you want.

So then you throw Crysis 3 into the mix? lol. How is that anything like Infamous? But anyway, Crysis 3 is what, an average of 55fps at 1080p? So dunno what to tell ya, that 5fps drop won't mean much during gameplay.

But WiiU isnt next gent. Its current gen, with same texture, graphics and so on.
If PS4 was to do that they could run it at 60fps! :) You know InFamous SS isnt possible (in this form) on the WiiU? Right?

I mean, its good that WiiU can pull 60fps but the graphics arent next-gen

orif you game on a nice plasma, and prefer full range of motion to judder,

revengence is not 60fps

a lot of WiiU titles look better than PS3/360 titles.

I am not talking about being off topic in this thread, you were trying to argue the point I was commenting on with something completely different. Do you not read back what you type to see that it makes completely no sense?

Grow up, I mean are you actually interested in getting this game or are you here to bleat on about 60fps?

do you read my posts?

people it's not wrong to expect the best, especially when shelling out top dollar,

at the same time, i recognize it would be dumb to pass on a good experience, because one thing i wanted, didnt happen.

Awesome. I'm okay with this. It's an open-world console game, people better not start getting used to 60fps as some kind of standard for console games. 1080p/30 is acceptable, to me. If I want 60fps in every game, I game on my PC.

Most seem to be about how 30fps sucks and how WiiU has a surprising amount of 60fps games and 30fps defenders.

Yes I read your posts.

30fps is the bare minimum to be expected for next-gen consoles, there's nothing wrong with hoping for 60fps on ps4 titles, but settling for 30.
