Initial D : Street stage PSP anticipation

Oh, and it came with a UMD movie disk too - has a trailer for the movie on it as well as some other stuff.

GASP! Japanese or Asia version?

Sounds like standard Initial D to me from your impressions. Hooray!

Yeah tell us about the bonus UMD, did it come in the case or in its own case? Where did you get the game from?

I have a feeling we wont get the bonus included, like most people didnt get Jump Superstars book included.

got this last night but had limited time

first note : 2.60 upgrade required

Seems okay, graphics aren't amazing, but the handling is decent enough, but default config has X as accel and square as brake which was causing me some problems, will have to switch the control method - didn't notice any load times, and had a fun couple of duels.

CONSTANT talking during the race started to jar a little bit.
Thanks for the quick impressions!

Isn't X=accelerate, Square=brake (and O=handbrake) pretty much standard issue for racing games, though?

The constant talking is SOOOOooo Initial D... Pondering the meaning of life, the universe, and how this race is life or death... too bad i won't be able to understand wth they're saying, and subtitles would suck in a racing game like this...

and yeah... what they said... bonus stuff? neat... was it them recording the sounds of the 86 on the dyno and stuff?

no loading really? excellent...

which version did you pick up and from where???

Thanks for the quick review by the way...

i'm more of a trigger man myself! :)
but yeah, think my square is a little defective so i was having to come down hard on it to brake :(

Thanks for the quick review by the way...

local store sells it the day before release if it's beyond 9pm.

Got Gunstar Heroes as well, but again, due to work - not had too much time.

Actually *looks over shoulder* no one here at the moment, perhaps i can sneak a game in now?

okay, you can configure the game how ever you want button wise! yeahhhh!

and music track list is as follows (i don't know if these are familiar, but for Initial D fans this might be of interest...)

1. Speedy speed boy
2. Remember Me
3. Save Me
4. Over the Rainbow
5. Stop your self control
6. Crazy for love
7. Express love
8. Power of sound
9. Fall in the web of desire
10. Pamela
11. Fight for love tonight
- No. BGM

Yeah! Speedy Speed Boy is the only craptastic Eurobeat song I need for this game! :D Going to pick this and the Gunstar collection up right after work today. Maybe they'll be able to tell me if I'm going to get a DS Lite at launch now, too...

I don't get where this confusion over Asian and Japanese versions of games is coming from, but once AGAIN, they are the same. The Asian version will generally have Chinese text on the box and/or in the manual, and come with an English insert. The GAMES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. :)

The extra UMD is a bonus for Japan; I don't know if that will come with the Asian version, nor if importers will offer it. You should check with them.

load times - there is a long load when the game initially boots. Then , each race takes about 7 seconds to load in. The rest of the time, i didn't notice.

Did see one odd thing in the last race - i heard the drive "grind" and the game froze for a second or so, i assume doing some sort of data streaming. Little odd, but i assume it was just a one off or something.

Game plays much better on the triggers IMO.
But i need to play with the set up of the analogue stick - still doesn't feel quite right.
(you can play on digital pad if that floats your boat too)

For me, if I can't have a wheel, it's gotta be d-pad. I'm a tapper when it comes to playing racing games with a standard controller. So far, the only time I've had to use that lame PSP analog nub/slider is on those spin moves in DJMP. :)

Remember Me and Save Me are two awesome tracks I listen to a lot :D

nice impressions DCharlie, thanks - you use brake though? lol

I was taught by some super initial d arcade geniuses with aura's round their cars to never use brake....does that apply to this game at all? Guess I will find out - mine shipped today :D

I picked it up tonight (didn't get the bonus UMD though...BOOOOO) along with Kinnikuman Muscle Generation (which I HIGHLY reccomend...AKI did a great job on the PSP version and it's packed with 51 playable characters) and The Con (it's okay), plus DMC SE and Gunstar PS2, so I got a lot to play, but Initial D is an excellent conversion; I'm liking it more than the PS2 port.

Anyone that's a fan of Initial D will NOT be disappointed.

Yeah... anymore thoughts on this... also, is there any gameplay vids out there? I can't find any *insert frownie*... Too bad Noizy Tribe isn't in there :( Mine's not expected to ship till March 8th according to my playasia account... bah...

I heard the game was terribly hard because in order to tune your card you needed a rare card. When I say rare, I mean R A R E. But I'm not too sure, reviews should be up in a few days time :P.

I got mine yesterday, only had a few races on it as haven't had much time and it is more Japanese heavy than I anticipated!!

I'm enjoying the racing a fair bit, you see people going side to side and crashing into walls like a bad bowler on some vids but I haven't had that problem at all.

I haven't done any research on how the game actually works yet, or which menu is which and how you tune your cars etc. Its a bit disorienting so far when I'm not racing.

I think we get a garage? But you don't need to buy cars? Cos I was messing about yesterday and changed cars >.> Can I change back whenever? Is my other car stored somewhere?

If I tune a car is it like in my garage or do I have to apply the cards all over again?

lol you can tell I am COMPLETELY lost. I will be studying gamefaqs soon.

Hopefully there is some good coming from ordering the Asian version with the english book then... though, it's prolly a piece of paper telling you how to turn on and off the PSP...... though I'll be lost in those cutscenes, or, what looks like cut scenes... Oh well... time to watch the very first initial d again now that i'm on this kick again...

The Asian manual is basically a list of what menu means what etc so yeah useful - but you can get the same info online with ease. Hell people even make menu lists for games in English. You can find loads of things on gamefaqs :D its mint!

but mainly just knowing how the game works. do you have a garage? Do you build one car up then swap it for the next? What do you do if you get a card twice? Hell I dont even know how the card system works :(

Yay... mine came in... I went through the story mode already with it... it's a good time... I'm a huge fan of the anime, so this is greatness for me...

You can have multiple cars in your garage... in the garage menu, just click the third spot down... then you can add more to it... you have to go back there to select which car you're in during the races though that you wanna use... good thing i went with the asian one, the book helps out a lil bit understanding things, especially like the menu's...

I keep getting the same cards too... I think it's so you can swap/trade them with your buddies... I still have yet to get a "mod" card... sucks...

If anyone is unsure about this game still, we put up a gameplay trailer tonight (With my S13! Kekeke)

http://1up.com/do/download?cId=3143574

The game, as far as Initial D goes is essentially perfect. I'm not used to some of the Ver.3 changes with the cars, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Also, the wireless play is flawless. Tricky people are already playing it online via tunneling too :X

That was my only problem, the analogue stick was too sensitive especially after playing Ridge Racer. I got used to it after a while but I'd love to change the sensitivity.

I was wondering if the initial d mini logo in the asia version cover (this is the one; the thingy's in the upper right part of the cover, just below SEGA's logo, my guess is that it's chinese) is a sticker or it's printed onto the cover itself, can somebody *pleeeease* clear this to me?

I'd also like to know if you think the game is a must buy or not. I love the anime and I want another racing game after RR (I loved it!), but I don't really know whether I should get this one or wait a little and get something else (such as naruto portable which is just around the corner, or shutokou battle western version -aka "street supremacy").

BTW, does anybody know how many characters will be playable in naruto portable? I couldn't find a list anywhere.

And *at last* the last question: Where's the best price for initial d asian version for an European buyer (no play-asia for me *sigh*)?

Thanks in advance
