Why are you all so concerned with console sales lolThey should have come up with a plan so people have to buy playstations for all that shit
No, you got this backwards. The biggest money makers by far are PS+ subscriptions and microtransactions. Hardware sales are a portion and are there to serve as a gateway to the Playstation ecosystem. Sony is now looking at way to attract people to the Playstation ecosystem without relying on the consoles.
Look at this. PSN+MTX make up almost 50% of their revenues. If they manage to expand onto other devices, they would represent an even bigger part.
For subscriptions you definitely have a point (although you'd have to ask how many people would subscribe if you didn't need it to play online). No, you got this backwards. I actually think this is karma at this point because they were pretty shit with their communication for the last few years. Still shit that staff data went out but its kinda ironic that they have such a bug leak after having no show after no show.
They definitely communicated this year, including their big annual showcase in May and several States of Play throughout the year.I totally agree with the bolded. If they'd talk about something (ANYTHING) some of the leaks wouldn't be as shocking.
It's exactly what's happening there.
Put a PS store on PC and allow dual entitlement so if you own a PS5 game you can download the PC version.
I legitimately don't think they can afford that.
As long as it’s optional. I have had enough stupid custom launchers that breaks older games (hey Rockst*r).Another store? We got enough of them already.
I would like account integration so your trophies, saves, and stats sync across PC and Playstation though.
They can, they have done dual and triple entitlement before across PS3, PS Vita and PS4. Question is are developers willing to go for it. You've already bought the game, why not allow you to play it on any platform you choose? Capitalism.I legitimately don't think they can afford that.
Because unlike MS, Phil’s equivalent at Sony (whoever is the replacement) doesn’t have Uncle Satya to ask for a cool $80 billion+.Why?
Why?
Why are you all so concerned with console sales lol
Definitely going full in on analysis on how it happened.Crazy leaks, I wonder if any heads will roll at Insomniac for the poor data security.
It definitely shows that Sony are thinking about moving beyond consoles and making PlayStation about entertainment, not just gaming.
Yep, this is absolutely correct, and why Microsoft console sales being down doesn't seem to be translating into less revenue for Microsoft Gaming. Console sales are important because you lock players into your ecosystem and sell them things on your store, but the console itself almost never makes profit unless you are Nintendo. Sony is going to go after the PC ports, subscription services, and streaming money too, but
Don't tell the console warriors!
Indeed.
They've got a PlayStation Mobile division and they have actual PlayStation studios making those games (Valkyrie Entertainment is one for example) as well as Bungie and the currently announced Neon Koi.
They've bought a PC porting specialist.
They've been developing Project Chronos for streaming. They've also got PS Portal out there that is basically screaming for Chronos integration. iOS and Android phones also have alternatives such as backbone or Dualsense compatibility.
Once Chronos is expanded then we'll see it launched as part of the app for sticks and smart TVs etc.
That'll be a much broader net for the PlayStation store, digital content and subscriptions.
Leveraging their other entertainment options is also wise.
Put a PS store on PC and allow dual entitlement so if you own a PS5 game you can download the PC version.
Are these anime people
They're a Jpop band called Kiss My Foot.
...So that's basically a "Yes"?
I hope not, I like steaming but I also want the consoles to stay as long as possible.Consoles will be in ten years what the ipod is today
I mean yeah I get that my enjoyment comes from sales, it's just always so weird to take it *personally* like that.Because Playstation is mainly a business that thrives on the console itself. It's the roots of the tree. Without it, Playstation doesn't exist. It's not that hard to understand.
I'd be pretty certain Nintendo will be conducting similar exercises and reviews. It's good business sense to do so.Why can't sony be normal?
Content and confident.. .like Nintendo.
But no. Sony always hasto chase after microsoft, gaas, mobile or some other shit. I miss the old simpler days.

Information from the Insomniac leak, they will greatly expand the current service like Xbox does.
No need if they are selling 20+ million PS5s per year?So according to what I've read about this matter here on gaf, Sony will be a third party publisher in the near future right?
You do get to sell subscriptions PC players will often not pay for and you get that sweet sweet royalties on every game sold (3rd party included) and their DLC. Apologies, did not mean to interrupt your trolling .Yep, this is absolutely correct, and why Microsoft console sales being down doesn't seem to be translating into less revenue for Microsoft Gaming. Psst Psst a lot of that comes from 3rd parties who only pay any fees from console sales. If Sony were to move tons of players to PC, great job… Valve would be super happy .No, you got this backwards. Is that Deathstroke?People are just in denial because they don't want this shit to happen.
Because unlike MS, Phil’s equivalent at Sony (whoever is the replacement) doesn’t have Uncle Satya to ask for a cool $80 billion+.
They don't have a parent company with a kind of disposable income like microsoft, also going by the recent leaks, they like to make PC boards for cheap for higher revenue on them after the console version comes out. I might be wrong, but that's the impression I get.
YES! I have a Sony A95K. I would LOVE to just be able to play games on it alone.Fucking finally. Just give me ability to play PS games from app on my TV and I will happily pay for PS Plus
It won’t be enough to offset loss of additional sales. These recent leaks showed $400mil+ revenue off just the ports.Their own store would also have a possibility of bigger profit and their own 3p sales on pc.
They should have come up with a plan so people have to buy playstations for all that shit
I can't wait to play it in Edge on my Xbox

At some point, there would have been Nintendo presentations asking "could we profit by by leveraging our IP through theme parks" or "is there money to be made by putting our franchises on mobile"
Their own store would also have a possibility of bigger profit and their own 3p sales on pc.
