  • According to the agreement between Marvel, PlayStation, and Insomniac Games, no X-Men games (not developed by Insomniac) can be announced by Marvel until Dec. 31, 2035, meaning there will not be an X-Men game on Xbox before that time.
  • Insomniac Games has not officially commented on the breach.

Insomniac Games, the PlayStation studio responsible for games like the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise, was hit by a ransomware attack recently, with the hackers dumping out over 1.7TB of studio files. These files include personal documents of employees, as well as Insomniac Games' plans for future titles, corporate strategy, financial information, and more.

Part of this includes the license details for Marvel's X-Men, which Insomniac Games seems to have ironed out as part of working on the already-announced Marvel's Wolverine. According to the terms, which Windows Central has viewed, Insomniac Games is given full license to work on X-Men games through Dec. 31, 2035. Until that time, Marvel cannot announce any new X-Men games for consoles, Windows PC, or Cloud gaming services.

The deal seems to mandate that Sony make at minimum three games and the numbers are given for if Sony choose to do a 4th. Basically 3-4 games between 2026 and 2035 will release. Wolverine and Marvel's X-Men are the 2 we know about.
IIRC, the deal is for 3 games: 1 Wolverine game and 2 X-Men games.

Sony will be making the games so they will naturally be exclusives. At least this way we are all promised that Nintendo and MS 1st party wont be wasting teams on this.

Where it hurts is smaller 3rd parties that try the occasional game like MvC, whatever that switch Tecmo X Men game is, and Midnight Suns. Hell might even include mobile. All that is gone. Oh well. I dont usually play those but theyre mostly taking the license from 3rd parties which is kind of new.

The headline says "Xbox" isnt allowed but thats really not it. No one is allowed but Insomniac, even on PS. This is more like EA locking all 3rd parties out of FIFA and NFL.

IDK if there is information other than this slide that states a 4th game isn't going to happen but the licensing agreement slide does state a "provisional 4th title" under commitments. Suggesting that the final amount could either be 3 or 4 but the 4th wasn't set in stone yet.

In some of the roadmaps appeared the third game, which was a second X-Men game planned to be released around that time.

I imagine this applies to Switch and Switch 2 as well.
It does apply. The document mentions these games Insomniac X-Men games (including Wolverine) will be released on PS5 and PC, and forbids Marvel to license X-Men to other people for console/PC/streaming games.

and people blame MS for buying stuff. It's because Sony keeps doing this shit and trying to lock Xbox out of everything if they can till it die. MS decided to play the same dirty level but.... on a MS level.

Blame MS, they turned Disney/Marvel down. After the success of Spider-Man of course they'd want to do more with their other IPs (Wolverine/X-Men/Blade).

Microsoft bought Zenimax and Bethesda you really thought Sony wouldn't retaliate?

Or MS bought Bethesda and ABK in response to this type of Sony deal using its position as market leader??

Those are just ips there not studios. As much as I love Sony to buy t2 or EA there not Microsoft buying publishers. And besides Microsoft could of easily done the same thing if they wanted to they have the money and they just simply refused the offer
