Interview (and New screens): Madden NFL 07 (Wii version

Oh for shit's sake.

2 pages and this thread is already ruined. This game looks GOOD for Wii. It's obviously better looking than the Xbox version, and it flows better too (from teh videos we have of it). And the controls sound GREAT.

Madden 06 360 ("first" next gen madden) should never have been released. It was an incomplete game, which ea was currently working on as a completely brand new ground up experience. It really shouldn't even be considered the first madden, since it wasn't a finished game.

Madden 07 360 is the first real next gen Madden.

Which is why it took shit last year. No one is complaining about Madden 07 in here, as far as I understood.

You guys need to read the interview:

- cool passing controls that sound like they'll actually work.
- juking/stiff arm sounds pretty cool
- cool kicking system
- exclusive mini-games (2 on 2)
- all the features of the other madden games (both in-game like audibles and features like a fully-fleshed franchise mode) sans better graphics

I've played the Xbox 360 game and I like it. Those that say nothing "new" is never done in the Madden series probably haven't played too much of it. But I will say I am looking forward to something radically new and this, to me, sounds like it could be really fun, especially in multiplayer. Would it be cool if it had better graphics too? Sure.

Is it a disease to repeat the same thing over and over again in every Wii thread ? Because I hope there is a medication and that many people here will take it sooner than later.

If Wii-fans wouldn't try and increase the greatness of everything released on the console to revolutionary or epic proportions people wouldn't have to. The same people who've been saying crap like ":lol :lol paying $50 for a roster update..smart!" all generation, are now splooging over that every same game, even when there is a TOTALLY NEW build out there.

Is there something wrong with GAF again... posts are getting switched around like happened that one time 6 months or so ago

Amir0x said:
Every system has to deal with people commenting on its graphics, Wii doesn't get an exception because it decided to stay back a generation.

So one should compare it to current gen. versions. And in that sense, the Wii version DOES look good.

This is Backwards GAF. Where Amir0x likes the Wiimote, Dragona likes Metroid Prime, I like Disgaea and Sony haven't ****ed up anything.

3rd party developers should take every single big game on ever released on the PS2, even the ones that Nintendo fans dismissed, beef up the textures and resolution, intergrate wii controls, and watch the fanboys proclaim wii as the greatest system of all time.

Where was this? We're just saying we want to buy the game.

OMFG...

Jason Armenise: Yep, so this Thursday at EA event I'm going to show one of the multiplayer mini-games in the Wii version off. So I'll talk about one of them first with you guys. The one I'm going to be showing off is called two-on-two. It's exactly what you think it is. It's a multiplayer version of the schoolyard game two-on-two, which is basically a quarterback and a receiver versus somebody rushing the quarterback and a safety or defensive back trying to cover the receiver.

IGN Wii: So are you going to be counting bananas?

Jason Armenise: It's Mississippis. And it's funny you mention that because I'm an American, but I work with a Canadian team and the Canadians love steamboats for some reason. They wanted steamboats. So I had a hard time convincing them it's Mississippis. But luckily Gatorade put out a commercial recently that had Mississippis, which pretty much ended the debate.

...steamboats?

:lol

About as much effort between the Xbox and PS2 version, its still using the SAME engine, and it still doesn't look that great at all compared to the 360/PS3 versions. And thats not even touching the animation or a.i. But I'm sure wii fans don't care aobut the intricacies, accuracy, or realism of their football game, rather they just want to "throw teh ball with teh wiimote11" INNOVATEVE!!!

GTFO of here.

u guys are seriously retarded here now.

nameless u know im into football...hell i spend most of my time in the football threads over at the OT. i own every madden going back 8 yrs. i love the simulation, the realism, and i bitch about faulty AI and eveyrthing. thats why i was worried as hell about this madden. but then i read this interview....and i dont know if u did or not..

YES THE GRAPHICS OF THIS SUCK COMPARED TO 360.....but as the interview outlines it has everything else in terms of AI, modes, features, and gameplay that other versions have.

for those thinking that in the interview hyping the game they are going to say "yeah basically its the gamecube graphics with a lil touch up here and there" then ur crazy. but what the interview does break down is how the controls work and considering how there have been very positive reviews of the controls so far im interested in the game.

and no amirox im not some wii fan who is interested out of nowhere. will this game be lacking some stuff? well duh....but hopefully it makes up for it with the controls.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of effort EA has put into this game. Very uncharacteristic. And it sounds like it will really pay off. I'm more interested in this game than I am in any of the other 3rd party Wii titles at this point (save Metal Slug collection), and as long as impressions stay this good it may be a day one purchase for me alongside Zelda.

I hope EA continues with the effort. Harry Potter on the Wii has the potential to be awesome, and for the first time I'm not upset EA has the property locked up

Is there a way to ignore people on here? I've only been on these boards for a couple of weeks, but this amirox guy has already annoyed the hell out of me. We know you're an uberhardcore gamer who is slow to accept new concepts that don't specifically fit into your rigid sensibilities. We get it. Why don't you try waiting until you've actually put some time in a few of these gimmicky waggle-wand games before you dump all over every aspect of them?

really immature, it's an arcadey take on football, the likes of which we haven't seen in awhile. The sim games are still available for you on other platforms and you wouldn't have bought this version even if it had regular controls. Why not let others have their fun too?

Most of us are happy to admit many 3rd party titles have crappy cash in wiimote stuff glued to old games, and are not proclaiming any of those as stellar. Hence the reson this game is actually getting praise. They are really trying. Read the interview and tell me they aren't. Name one 3rd party developer that is going this far (and suceeding, sorry Ubisoft). EA deserves some credit here

:lol :lol :lol

That'd be something if you could put mods on ignore.

I don't see how it's arcadey, it seems similar to the other versions of Madden with new controls, which all play pretty sim like.

tsc tsc, i did not dump on them at all! Oh no, my friend, i am open arms for all gimmicks

1) 3rd page is really confusing. Posts have been moved replies appear before the quotes etc.

2) When did the devs received the final Wii dev kits? This is ****ing ridiculous. These can't be the graphics Nintendo expect us to accept for the next five years. As a person who still has some interest left in buying Wii this is really frustrating.

This game is for people like me who hate sports games .. I am actually thinking of picking this up for the new gameplay . Where as I would never buy this for my 360 .

I just wish they would make a ne ICE HOCKEY game

i know what ur trying to say but how is it not a sim approach and more of a arcade approach? i see games like nfl blitz in that light. this is still madden with all the realism, sans the graphics of 360, and new controls.

let me ask this if wii had the graphics comparable to 360 would anyone still buy it over the 360 version? i mean if it didnt have a unique controller? it would be like madden on gamecube again.

Miyomoto actually talked about doing "Wiimakes" from the gamecube. With Madden though, it has all the features of the next gen games apparently, sans good graphics. Which admittedly is a big deal.

Yeah I guess I just read it as arcadey because the controls will feel like playing with a peripheral instead of pressing buttons. It's what interests me about the game, so it's nice the sim stuff is their for other people, but I'll just be booting it for some fun multiplayer. It actually sounds like the best multiplayer for Wii launch, unless you really like minigames.

And I agree, no one would care about the Wii version if it looked and played just like the 360 version, which is why this is a good thing. People have options, and I think lots of folks may buy both

Its just odd to me, that people some of which admit previously had ZERO interest in Madden or any football previously suddenly splooge over the game because its on wii, and utilizes the wii-mote. SOME of the control features are cool, I dont' see how it can turn a non-fan into a fan.

I can point out how the free motionpassing controls won't be beneficial 85% of the time in a real game but I won't even bother..to each his own.

The 2-on-2 minigame sounds pretty fun. I like the idea of the "buzz" feature. I can see burning a lot of hours on it w/ 4 players.

It's sounds fun to them. When you compound that with the fact that people who have played it are saying it is fun what's so hard to understand?

well duh im not speaking for those ppl. there are ppl at every launch....if they are into the company that much that tihnk any game announced for the system is amazing. remember way back when the first game announced for nintendo dolphin was some game called picaso? and how everyone was like omg best game ever?

im speaking for those of us who love madden and always have. i already own madden 07 and love it but if the reviews are good i will buy this to check it out. out of everything ive seen and read and heard the controls sound good and so im going to give this game a chance. i already know it wont compete with the 360 version in graphics or animations and i really dont care cause if its not good at the core i wont bother playing it even if it had all the bells and whistles.

the one feature that sticks out is the 2 on 2 game. now that is arade style and the way he described it with signaling ur partner with a buzz on like when to make a cut or buzz twice to pass....sounds great.

I hate football but i might give this a rent to see how it plays. It took me a while to realise the ground textures look like ass because it's actually 3d stacked turd grass.... you know like the stuff in star fox adventures.

This is unreal. There's a seven page interview going into insane depth about a million new things this game is doing, and like, two paragraphs about the graphics. And GAF has ignored every single great-sounding thing in the interview and fixated ENTIRELY on the graphics. It's like I'm in a time warp or something, where "waggle" is a new and hilarious term and the idea of the Wii being weaker than the 360 is fresh off the presses.

Now someone just needs to fill the OT just with some Melrose Place threads, and the circle will be complete.

Hey, did you know that Michael Jackson sleeps with little boys and owns a monkey? lol!

Never forget.

Graphics are the easiest thing to comment on. You expect EA to talk the controls up and say they're great. But screenshots can't
usually
lie. I have no problem with the graphics, but it's easier to talk about them rather than "Hey, this gameplay feature could be good, but none of us will know till we play it".

I'm a nice guy, so I'll try to help. I know nothing about football or football games, but I used to enjoy them on the 8 and 16 bit systems. When they went 3D, I stopped playing (not really the football's fault, just lots more games were releasing and I couldn't keep up). I don't watch football or play it either, so I know nothing about the game. Reading through the interview I skimmed over dozens of terms such as juke and audible that mean nothing to me. However, what I did see when i read that interview was a full game that actually revolves properly around the 3D control input. That is to say, the game provides you with a toolbox of moves, and expects you to use them for an extended period of time, combined with startegy, until you develop skill and become a good player.

This is much more than can be said for most other Wii games so far. I was upset when Rayman became a mini game fest. The focus of MonkeyBall is clearly on mini games, very few positive comments have come out about the single player. Wii Sports does not focus on a cohesive gaming experience. WarioWare, more of the same. The amount of overlap between how these four titles will play could be staggering. Trauma Center seems to be a remake. Red Steel control impressions are too mixed to be a good thing. Really looks like everyone but Nintendo are having trouble synthesizing these controls into an actual game. The description of Madden 07 sounds fluid, sounds like it will work as a whole, and sounds fun. That's why it interests me.
