iPhone 5C |OT|

I would have gotten one of these if they cost $300ish off contract on Virgin. Anyone know the off-contract price or what it might end up being? Because $300 was a nice dream we had once. If it's still like $500 I'd rather just go all the way to 5S and get the fingerprint scanner and gold.

I also hate that they went with black for the front. White would look so much nicer.

And that stupid misplaced "non" in the hole. I mean come on! They designed the two to be together. They could have easily put the name below the logo and had it out of the way. Such a weird oversight. Then again, the "Unapologetically Plastic" case of the actual phone would mean I wouldn't even bother with a case. But not if it's $500.

I do like yellow though. If there was an orange or the red was actually red I'd prefer those.

It's $550

Attn Mods: Ban everyone who posts about buying one of these. It's incredibly rude to Steve's memory & everyone with enough common sense to be disgusted by Crocs.

5C looks really nice.
The cases however make me wanna puke my last meal. Is this is a fucking joke?

I'm wondering if it really even needs a case. It's in a plastic shell already. It's like when you buy a bag of chips at the grocery store and they ask you if you want the chips in a bag. They're already in a bag.

This basically replaces the last gen iPhone (iPhone 5) dropping to $99 on contract. Those who were planning to buy the iPhone 5 may just buy this and you will get a few who choose this over the 5S.

Whats the off contract price of this budget phone?

Facetime audio calling over cellular…sweet. Audio quality should be much higher quality than regular calls.

I don't understand, is Google the only company that can make a good budget phone with the correct price or what?

Google's the only company that can afford to sell a flagship phone at-cost or at a loss because Apple, Samsung, etc. all have to actually make money on their hardware to stay in business.

As someone who owns an iphone with a shattered side, is it wrong that I want a 5c because so far it just LOOKS a hell of a lot more durable? I could care less about the spec bump, tbh. Not really that great.

These look fantastic, actually half tempted to get one instead of a 5S but I know I'll be swayed by Touch ID. These are going to be huge though

I can't help but think Apple's target market with this is the utterly ignorant. The value is so abysmal, it's like if Sony released a pink PS3 at $350 alongside the $400 PS4. Of course there will be some who understand what they are buying and just really, really like the looks of the 5C - nothing wrong with that. But those people will be a drop in the ocean. Everyone else should either pony up for the 5S, go with a substantially cheaper older iPhone, or go with something that isn't an iPhone.

Oh yea right good point I forgot about that. Also the fact that many probably don't buy their phone outright.

I don't understand what people wanted out of this phone. It was always going to be the iPhone 5 in a new shell sold for the same price they always do for the previous year's model. Are people really surprised by any of this? It has an on contract price that parents will get for their kids, and a look that differentiates it.

This phone is going to sell gangbusters.

Not at all, although whether it actually is or not is anyone's guess for now. Durability is such a woefully neglected facet of product design these days, so it's at least promising to see Apple take what seems to be a step in the right direction. It's hardly one of those brick shithouse Lumias though.

Yep, instead of getting last year's phone for cheaper, you get a new phone with a brand new design and small improvements on the hardware side. I think the "cheap" narrative that was throughout the rumour coverage really screwed with people's idea of what this might be.

This strategy worked phenomenally well for the iPod Mini, I expect the 5C to do the same

Those calling this phone pointless are forgetting that this product isn't aimed at anyone who posts on this forum. This is meant for the low-mid range market. People who don't care about the high end, premium stuff. For the people who want something even simpler and those who like colors. That's really it.

5S is bullshit. But of course, people will lap it up.

Moto X 16GB is $199 on contract and $550 off contract here in Canada. Not really that different.

Motorola X atleast knows how to do colour :P But Moto X is not a budget phone...

For me:

Cheap-ass phone (not even worth looking at) = up to 100
Budget phone = 100 to 250-300.
Mid range = from 250-300 to 450-500
High end = from 450-500 and above

but… but it’s priced the same as other high end iPhones when they launched? it just has a single 100 dollar version. but it’s over $550 unlocked. It’s not aimed at the low end market at all.

As someone who posts on this forum, I think the 5C is infinitely more attractive.

I could care less for Apple's premium designs, because they've demonstrated plenty by this point that they don't considering durability in their premium designs (and lot of companies seem to not care anymore). The 5C looks great AND sturdy, and that's important to me. It looks like something I wouldn't HAVE to buy a case for if I didn't want to.

Also, ever since I got my tablet, I've realized that I don't NEED my phone to do everything, I use it less and less now. I've actually gone back to the days of wanting a phone that I could just throw in my pocket or bookbag and forget about. A new phone with the iPhone 5's innards for $99 is ACE for me right now.

Why would ANYONE not pay the extra $100 to get the 5S on contract? Especially when you consider they are going to be paying $50+ a month for 2 or 3 years, are people stupid or just cheap?

How many people (At least in America) REALLY care about Off-Contract prices?

Seriously. Think about it. No one that I know gives a shit. We're a country full of people in credit card debt. We don't know what value is.

You'll have people look at the 5C and go "Omg colors and only 99$? I'm in"

That's all this is. We can bitch about it all we want but when a lot of people see that 99$ entry point for an iPhone they'll jump on it. It's "New" so they won't feel bad about having last year's phone (Even though it's internally just an iPhone 5)

I bought my nexus 4 off contract sure as hell beats paying 50+ a month. Data plans are ridiculous as hell and really unneeded for me since I have wi fi at home, work and school. I don't need to be connected 24/7. Also I'm a student so saving money is my priority.

It's not low-mid range by any scale. The performance, while vastly behind the 5S, is still kinda-sorta high end, while the price is really high end - the current Android flagships cost less than the 5C, and the 5S is only marginally more expensive than the 5C.
5S is bullshit. But of course, people will lap it up.
5S is the best you can get. That always comes at a premium. (But not much of a premium compared to the 5C. Now there's a purpose for the 5C: to make 5S look like decent value...)

Both. People still gobble up the 4 and 4S like it's nothing even to this day.

Yeah and you're in the minority in that.

Everyone who's choking on Google's cock needs to remember that they made this niche device but have barely spent the time or money explaining the benefits of a cheap, off-contract phone.

I just wish the 5c was a little cheaper, a price hike on the 5s is not helping either, same happened to the Mac mini just before I had the funds to buy one.

It has 5 innards yes but they shoved plastic up its arse, might as well strip a little more out and knock it down by 100 to look nicer to shoppers.
