Semantics.

In biology, races are distinct genetically divergent populations within the same species with relatively small morphological and genetic differences. The populations can be described as ecological races if they arise from adaptation to different local habitats or geographic races when they are geographically isolated.

Maybe? I can't tell if people just got it out of their systems, or if we're all waiting on baited breath to see if there's going to be another bish lawnmower incident.

Thread is now about grammar fascism. It's "bated", meaning 'interrupted'. See: unabated.

Blast! You're right! There's nothing I hate more than a malaproper.

REQUESTING PERMISSION TO STEALTH EDIT AND THEN ROT IN A GRAMMAR PRISON CELL, COMMANDANT CHRISTINE!

What would you say the rule appears to be at the moment?

Devo has asked the question I would ask.

Is that the only criteria now? Better get rid of 'dog' 'whale' 'slut' 'woman' 'girl' 'prude' etc. I was sort of under the impression that words and phrases that uses the female gender and its attributes as insults were sort of gendered too. As per Rentahamster's very good post on the subject.

Some of the words you're citing don't really conform to the issue. Some I do actually think could be problematic, but don't currently seem to be. Again, though, I'm confident that you would not get very far throwing the word "slut" around on NeoGAF.

Do you consider the arguments I quoted in my post to be misguided?

This is interesting, but I think that more or less contemporary usage of the word is what's most relevant. I think it's clear from a quick Google or two that douche is not predominantly used to criticize women -- if anything, it's more often used to criticize men.

You might reasonably ask why this is not something a feminist would be more concerned with. I would suggest that it's because douche is not used to marginalize men for failing to conform to the bounds of the patriarchal conception of sexuality -- more often it's used for the exact opposite reason, to criticize men for slavishly adhering to it. Obviously the men who do this are also, fundamentally, being coerced by society, but it's still a worthwhile goal to offer a critique of the system that has coerced them.

I'm not seeing a smoking gun in Sentry's post history. I wonder what got him.

I try to never use derogatory terms...
As someone out there will be insulted in some way,
and then yell until it becomes a rule.

Just put a filter on like before, problem solved.

Or Mods need to add a reason to why a person was banned.
Also put the name of the Mod that set the ban,
unless Mods aren't confident in their actions.

Sometimes I'll see someone banned, but have no idea why.
Even if I go through their post history...

This way a lot confusion on the forum will hopefully disappear.

I can't be the only person on the forum confused as to why a poster gets banned at times.
A banning with confusion derails threads.
And that's not the type discussion that should be going on in threads.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,

who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz,
who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenement roofs illuminated,

who passed through universities with radiant eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war,
who were expelled from the academies for crazy & publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull,
who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall,

who got busted in their pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York,
who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night
with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares, alcohol and cock and endless balls,

I gaze upon your post
And deep within me dwells
Emotion

I respond to your words
And the rhythm in which they
Are presented

You have awakened the poet inside me

I must work to improve my posts
To make them more pleasing

In the visual and pronounced forms

We are all artists

I agree with you.

I also agree but the mods have been clear this isn't going to happen. I think it would be a great way to see how moderation actually works in practice and would limit the instances of moderators abusing their power. (Not accusing of anyone of power plays, but it would merely act as a deterrent) Transperancy is never a bad thing.

But we won't get our wish, unfortunately.

Epic.

for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious

There once was post in GAF
In a thread so long and fat,
Originally about strictness
and then about correctness,
that into prose they did graft.
