Is Horizon: Zero Dawn the best looking open world game ever?

It's classed as a space sim, the single player is open world I think or has large sandbox areas.

Yeah I mean it does have full planets to explore right...open world's?

If it does I would say that looks more impressive from what I've seen.

So probably the right thing to say would be is horizon the best open world on console.

Funny the clouds unrealistically never change direction and there's no wind at all or any clear breeze through the trees. Zelda has those though.

This is just showing the day-night transition technology. The actual cloud tech in Horizon is far, far beyond what Zelda could even dream of. Foliage also moves in the gameplay we've seen, so it is likely disabled there.

Yes but HZD is doing something a bit more creative with its female protagonist, weird robot enemies, lore, destroyed cities, etc.
It sounds like you are describing Enslaved: Odyssey to the West or even the new Zelda
except the female protagonist part =P

Oh yeah, most of planets and moons will be fully explorable. Might need to wait next month to see more though.

I think Fable Legends looks better:

Not really. But trying to show that when you know a game is a Zelda game, it helps you appreciate the environment more because you know "Oh, I can go explore that distant mountain and there's probably something unique over there..." so it makes you appreciate the world more. If you think of this as a shitty game like Fable Legends, where the world is a boring cutout of a fantasy world and not crafted with care, then it makes an otherwise fine looking screenshot seem less interesting

This is a really good point.

I don't see why they'd disable that when they're trying to show their tech, but OK.

Technically it looks good, but I still don't anything special about it, it looks very bland to me, the dino designs are nice enough, but that's about it. Everytime I see gameplay I'm bored already, it just looks so uninteresting to actually play. I'm sorry if my post sounds like bait, but it's how I feel; game looks bland and shallow. This game is gonna disappoint many people I feel.

No I'm not.
You just complained about foliage not moving in footage that's a year old yet completely ignored the ps4pro footage posted yesterday and the e3 demo that shows that yes, foliage does move. This proceeded by claiming that Horizon looks "typical" as if the world and aesthetic they went for is incredibly common or something when let's be honest, we know it's not. FFS we hardly get dinosaurs in games let alone robot dinosaurs. So yes you are being really disengenous.

You must have missed all the glowing impressions from people who've played the game, then.

Because it was in a presentation where they were just showing weather, cloud, and day-night technologies. The foliage movement was not something that needed to be enabled for the purposes of their demonstrations.

Dunno about that. This game does look fun though. Reminds me of elements from Heavenly Sword and Enslaved Odyssey to the West.

Looking forward to it :D

Now they should show Aloy climbing down and getting to the other side. :P

In a slightly extended clip(GI video me think) we can see Aloy climbing that mountain.

it's pretty much like Uncharted climbing(with the whole white paintings on ledges) except it's not a linear game.

Yeah...I hope I'm wrong, but I've been getting a very "Ubi-open world" vibe off the whole thing, which I've gotten very tired of. They've got Witcher and New Vegas devs on the team, though, so I've still got some optimism.

It has some of the best looking previews for any open world game, especially in terms of aesthetics, but I won't say that it's the best looking open world game until it actually releases. I mean, I remember people saying the same thing about Watch_Dogs prior to release, and we all know how that turned out.

You know Da-Kid, you should stop posting rather obvious bullshots.

Zelda looks nice for what it is, an open world Wii U game. It has a pleasant, soothing aesthetic. But that's about it.

Personally, I think Zelda and Horizon look wonderful. I think both of them have a strong artistic identity, and I know when I'm looking at a Zelda screenshot, and a Horizon screenshot, even when compared to similar games.

Zelda is stylized. But "stylized" doesn't equal "better." It's all subjective, and it's possible to love multiple things with different styles.

I can go ga-ga over an Uncharted 4, then flip and go ga-ga over a Ratchet & Clank, Journey, or Death's Gambit. I can appreciate that different teams, different artists, and different art directors can have wildly different approaches to their craft, and yet all of them can be appealing. The Witcher 3 and Horizon look nothing alike, yet both of them can sit comfortably as being two of the best looking games ever. I guess I just never see a purpose in having the dick waving "Nuh uh, mine is better than yours" shit. Maybe I'm just getting old. You don't have to tear one thing down to praise another.

Horizon has beautiful art design, and impressive technical prowess. You don't have to like the game, and there's nothing wrong with preferring another game's visual presentation over another, but the constant chest thumping because of some feeling of insecurity about a game you like not being seen as the best thing since sliced bread is fucking silly as fuck.

Funny the clouds unrealistically never change direction and there's no wind at all or any clear breeze through the trees. Zelda has those though.

Why would clouds change direction unless there's some type of cyclonic/tornadic activity? The way the clouds move in that Zelda gif looks really unrealistic and bad, especially considering it's only one day.

I've yet to see a single first impression/preview criticize the gameplay, all have been heaping praise on it, if Horizon ends up disappointing It'll come from the writing before the gameplay.

Am I dreaming or is Crossing Eden defending a Sony game? Maybe he hates Nintendo games more.

Easy now, Cross ;)

I actually am not a big fan of the look of this game. I was hoping it would more like this (besides IQ, obviously):

But it just looks flat and washed out and yellow-y.

lol.

These screens look like they came from a game 5 years older than the screens posted earlier in this thread.

I think what kills it for me is the extremely bland lighning. It is whashed out. And the lack of detail and geometry density. Everything is so spaced out.

It gives the game a boring, tedious look.

You must have missed all the glowing impressions from people who've played the game, then.

I haven't but people generally don't know what to think after playing a game. It's just shallow impressions. If I had played No Man's Sky for an hour I'd be like "hey this is pretty fun, I can see this being pretty great" In fact I think most previews for that one were also very positive, and we all know that game is trash. Now I'm sure Horizon is gonna be better than freaking NMS, but I'm just saying, this game looks to be a very shallow experience; what you see is what you get.

I'd like to be proven wrong though as the game should be right up my alley, but the gameplay videos just don't instill me with much confidence, I've seen this once too many times and I just won't fall for it anymore.

I'm sure the game'll score 90+ though. A few gameplay clips or even some actual hands-on gameplay is enough to win people over, but I don't think the game is gonna deliver a real meaty experience, just a more fleshed out Far Cry-like game and that doesn't appeal to me at all, it's all gonna be repetition ad nauseum like most AAA games.

But please game, prove me wrong.

Horizon looks amazing based on the stuff posted in this thread. Goddamn. That insomniac Spider-Man game is looking pretty good for an open world game too.

I agree. Any chance the NX version looks more like the top pic?

In terms of graphical detail, given what we know of the NX, I'm gonna guess nah.

Also implying Zelda looks particularly atypical, which it doesn't.

I mean that top pic was just an in-engine target render before the game even remotely resembled a game. So not likely.

Yep, not in this day and age.

I mean, that's what the game looks like during general gameplay.
