Is it safe to assume that Gears Judgment will flop??

Just like Ascension, it has the feel of a smaller side project to fill the gap while someone else is working on the real next proper next generation iteration.

It still says GoW on the cover, so depending on how much they're willing to spend on marketing, it'll either sell solidly or very well.

Quality of the game or changes made from the main game or amount of maps have little to do with the initial sales.

Nothing coming out on a next gen console will be a bestseller for 2013, so that seems irrelevant.

Sony or MS could still have something big up their sleeve for a launch title for their next gen consoles seeing as there are still numerous gaming conferences left in the year (E3 in particular).

However, from a pessimistic or more negative point of view "No" they probably don't, but I guess the point I'm trying to get at here is that we can't say for 100% that it is irrelevant unless you have a crystal ball where you can see into the future.

But Ascension is not a "smaller side project" I think there are about 150 - 200 people working on that project alone.

I don't expect it to flop. It's got Gears of War in the title and that's enough to sell well for now. It is the first Gears I will be skipping, though. I got the first three at or near their launches, and Baird is my favorite character, but this game has no appeal to me.

I got $10 they hate it more than anyone.

Im waiting to see if its good enough to develop a decent online following.

Sure some of the decisions may piss some people off now, but I'll take a wait and see approach.

The biggest problem the online userbase has is the fact that most of the online community will move onto the Durango/720.

Pre-ordered at Gamestop to get the 3 days early MP code to check things out. Won't be buying it though, if I like MP may rent it. I've never been hooked into Gears MP to stay around all that long and still need to start SP on 3.

good luck with that. even gears 3 died quick. gears is one of the few online games that takes some sort of skill so people wont play it. although this one does seem to strip a lot of things that made gears skillful.

I think it'll sell significantly less than previous iterations, but still enough to be considered a success or profitable venture.

I wager around 2 million sales compared to the 6 million for Gears 3.

I was certain that this would be the first gears game I didn't own but the more I see the more I like it. It is a departure for sure but the multiplayer looked pretty fun. I'm gonna wait for reviews.

It won't sell nearly as well as the other games and that's because of franchise fatigue, mixed with lack of marketing on Micrsofts side. it also feels kind of pointless and doesn't look groundbreaking gameplay wise, to justify any kind of purchase. I expect only dedicated fans to buy this. This gen needs to end soon, nothing's selling anymore and these constant sequels aren't making it any better.

It should be $40 honestly.

It has the feel of the Halo Anniversary release to me. In other words, not a lot of hype nor marketing push. Maybe there is and I'm just not seeing it, but it honestly doesn't feel like a big release to me.

Last i heard, the God of War series has sold more than the Gears of War series. Admittedly that includes two portable games.

Gears is the bigger franchise. god of war is usually 3-4 million seller and gears is 5-6 million. both spinoffs will sell less than usual though.

that is because it isn't. its more like halo odst, just a spinoff that wasn't really needed.

This is the TV ad. It's kind of bad.

I swear when this first came on I thought it was a prolonged youtube commercial.

It will do a couple of million on the Gears name alone.

I feel bad for People Can Fly being saddled with such a boring project.
Bulletstorm 2, plz.

I enjoyed Bulletstorm way more than Gears 2, and about as much as 1. 2 was so bad that I never even bothered to play 3.

The better question is which ____ of War: ______ game releasing in March will sell more?

In the US? Gears I think.

I think the perception is different. It's not a numbered entry and will be seen as such by the larger market.

I can't argue with that, but just wanted to point out that there is no way Ascension is a small project since the whole GoW team is developing it.
