Is Mighty No. 9 delayed again?

Bloodstained was a great campaign. One of my favorite things I've backed so far, if only because of the great stream of updates, unlike so many other campaigns.

Even Shenmue 3, which was rightfully shit on for a crappy campaign has left me pretty pleased with the amount of updates and looks into the game I've gotten.

Mighty No. 9 is like a case study in how to not run a game crowdfunding campaign at this point. Especially with all the stupid platform promises.

Can't wait for all the dirt to come to light about how development must have been like.

There's no way Inafune did not funnel MN9 money into his failed side projects. I'd also love to see his receipts, because he screams "corrupt."

Kickstarter desperately needs audits. Right now transparency is optional, and I cannot support the website as long as it turns a blind eye to corruption.

Everything I've backed has been pretty good except for MN9. I find it hard at this point to believe this delay has anything to do with the multiplayer because by now if they can't do it they should of had someone who can.

Except BS was upfront about it from the get go.

Also true. We didn't know who it was until the KS ended (as I recall), but Bloodstained was clear from the start that the Kickstarter was to prove viability in the product to a publisher.

Ah yes, I remember now. A much better way to go about partnering with a publisher on a Kickstarter.

Every future Kickstarter project should look to Shovel Knight for how to do things right and to Mighty No. 9 for how to do it wrong.

I still consider my measly $15 pledge to the Shovel Knight KS to be the most rewarding and satisfying purchase I've ever made on a game.

It already got its first delay so don't be too sure about that :p

Armature is doing the actual development work on Recore, right? Inafune was just the idea man, like with MN9. That should be in a better position. It's probably only coming out on 2 platforms (XBO and PC probably), so they should have an easier time there.

That's good news then, but still I am a bit worried. It's almost a year since the reveal trailer that absolutely didn't show anything to give us an indication of what the game is going to be. Plus the release window they announced was nonsense and they knew it from the start. No way was it coming in Spring this year.

I sure hope it will be at E3, cause if not.... that can't possibly be good news. Do we even know if the game is a third person action adventure? Or could it also be like a XBLA title?

Aren't the portable versions of this game being handled by a different studio? Again, none of this would be an issue if they (or their publisher) didn't insist on a simultaneous launch on all systems at the same time.

Are we opening this can of worms up again? The Wii U (and Vita) versions aren't even being done in house but are being farmed out. Fewer versions, same generation, better engine that's better/still supported, outside dev at the start - there are a lot of differences you're not mentioning between that situation and MN9's situation.

EDIT: Though the conversation was always about the Wii U/Vita versions "holding the original versions back" rather than delaying the initial launch date.

This is exactly what the issue was. It was never about the Wii U or Vita versions delaying the main platform versions but rather holding back the main platform on the PC / PS4 / XB1 back.

When it came to light that Armature was not only handling porting duties for the Wii U and Vita versions as well as the duties to port and get Unreal 4 working on both the Wii U and Vita, the issue was mainly dropped.

A matter of transparency and communication seem to be one of the most important things in regards to well running crowd funding campaign in regards to their success.

It's funny how Inti Creates is involved in both Bloodstained and Mn9, as well as Deep Silver being the publisher, but the perception for both projects are vastly different. I suppose it's all about how it was managed at the top that makes the difference.

Inafune seemed to want to make Mn9 into it's own media franchise, something highly ambitious, whereas Iga just wants to make this one game first and see what happens after that.

I suppose it's about having realistic expectations and keeping ones priorities in check.

Not necessarily Kamiya himself, but there has been loose talk that Inaba and Inafune had butted heads when the former was the head of Clover and the latter was the head of Capcom's R&D.

But considering Clover was just one example of a Capcom force that later departed the company in the last twenty years, I'm not sure if Inafune can be entirely blamed for the fallout relating to Clover's dissolving or not.

Yeah I've heard some stuff that Infune was largely responsible for Clover closing shop but I was wondering if more details showed up.

It's hard to really say but Infune was in a position of high power so it's pretty likely, but who knows.

As far as Kamiya and Inafune go it seems like Kamiya wanted to clarify what Inafune's role actually is as he gets credited as the creator of Mega Man when that's not really true, especially as people interpret that as the game and not the character (and even saying he created the character is dubious), but in general he seems to respect him for the most part.

The devs of Shovel Knight ended up on a diet of ramen and ketchup packets for a few months prior to release and the game is to date still not feature complete.

It's an awesome game, but a very bad example of a 'Kickstarter done right'.

It's a YMMV thing, but I'd generally regard the game being feature complete as just 'the initial intention of the KS being released', with any stretch-goal features that are independent from the core game being exempt from that consideration. Unless there's something missing from SK that was in the original pitch and hasn't been completely axed?

(I suppose it's something akin to the DLC argument, in that I don't regard DLC content as being "cut from the game to sell later" content; similarly I don't regard Plague of Shadows as "part of the game delayed to release later")

Yacht Club didn't squander their budget, though, they just got a tiny amount relative to the scope of their game. I mean, they made the mistake of missing their target launch window but I can't think of a single crowdfunded game that hasn't been delayed to some degree, so...

Pushing the stretch goal content to post-release updates was the smartest move they made and even taking into account how long it's taking them to get it all done, I'd say backer satisfaction is incredibly high--YCG was and still is upfront about what's coming and when, they stream all their work and they went above and beyond with the first post-release content update so people aren't even that bothered by the wait anymore.

I don't think anyone is going to be annoyed if IGA announces that some or all of the stretch goal content will be postponed until post-release, especially given the goings-on with MN9.
