Is Monster Games working on a new racing game?

Guys, I have a brilliant idea for Monster's next game.

Exciteboats.

"It's not like NST is making something other than Mario vs Donkey Kong games."

I'm all in on this idea. Combine this series and Wave Race. I love the Hydro Thunder games.

Kimishima did talk about the need for Nintendo to get more in touch with modern technology and development so Unity use wouldn't necessarily be out of question, especially considering Nintendo already fully licensed it.

The big one will be if Nintendo licenses Unreal engine. That would guarantee good unreal support for their platforms.

If Diddy Kong Racing 2 is indeed a thing, I hope it is like that rumor that said that the roster would be part Kong characters, part lesser-known eShop game characters, like Dillon, Mallo, Rusty, Arcade Bunny, etc.

You think that sounds plausible for a green light? I mean it makes as much sense as a smash bros. clone with eshop and unknown characters lighting up the roster. From a niche fan point cool, from an executive Nintendo point of view hell no.

Or, say, a Spyro game in a completely different genre that's 99% original characters...

Well, the original DKR featured a lot of completely unknown characters, so I do wonder if a sequel would keep a similar idea.

Here's an idea
that probably won't happen
; what if instead of a "Diddy Kong Racing 2", Monster Games revived the Donkey Kong Racing concept that Rare was working on for the Gamecube? I think that one involved racing on animals, and I think you were able to hop between different ones during the race or something... it would be neat if something like that happened. At the same time, Monster probably wants to make their own thing, so I can't really see it.

That'd be so awesome. They should get Lee Musgrave from Crash Labs on the phone as he was the mastermind behind Donkey Kong Racing.

What's fucking crazy, is that if I read the info on it correctly, you actually race TOWARDS the screen?! O_o Like, the trailer implied more than we'd have thought, I saw a sentence that said just that. So it'd be something like those Crash Bandicoot sections where you run away from something towards the screen.

THAT'S bonkers. O_o

Edit: Found it:

As we all know, the game started as Donkey Kong Racing, but it apparently never got farther than the E3 2001 promo video before it became Sabreman Stampede. In the beginning, Sabreman Stampede, like its former incarnation, was a racing game involving jumping from one animal to another, and racing towards the screen.

Hm. I don't know how much I would have enjoyed that. I was never a fan of those parts in Crash Bandicoot games. The idea of switching vehicles mid-race sounds fun though.

Introducing, the next title from Monster Games:

EXCITE WAVE

A combination of Wave Race and Excite Truck, using officially licensed Innespace Seabreachers:

seabreacher-lead-6127pztn.jpg

Remember driving around Dolphin Park in Wave Race 64 and seeing the dolphins follow you? Well now you're the goddamn dolphin.

Or more precisely, a turbo-charged dolphin-like submersible that can skim the surface, dive underwater, breach the surface and sail through the air.

In true EXCITE fashion, your Seabreacher moves at near-supersonic speed. Hit special icons on the course to transform the terrain in real time. Triggers can make a river split into tributaries, or drop into a waterfall, or whip up a tsunami, or swirl into a whirlpool.

Hit the right triggers at the right time to slow down your rivals, or to launch yourself high into the air!

Wow, the wind keeps coming out of Nintendo sails. Or at least that is the perception!

Yeah, that's definitely how it feels. I just keep imagining meetings where they're like "so, any ideas on what's next? I mean, we have Mario Tennis, what more can we possibly put out this year?"

That being said, Monster Games is really good, they'll make a great NASCAR game.

Well, that's the end of that! First non-Nintendo game they've done in a while, it seems. I was hoping that they'd be working on something for the NX launch, but I guess not. Maybe after this game releases they can start work on another Nintendo project.

That's the end of what? They never had an exclusive relationship with Nintendo. It seems Nintendo kept them busy with projects until recently. I'm sure they'll make another Nintendo game whenever they are approached about it.

That's the end of that being, "that's the end of all this speculation that Monster Games is working on Diddy Kong Racing/F-Zero/Wave Race etc for NX at the moment". We now know they're working on a different title.
