Is this a cockroach, GAF? And should I kill myself?

Where I live is infested with little ones. I'm talking about dozens of there just walking out in the open with no fear of man itself.

But in my old apparent the big ones will just fly casually to your face and just walk on it. It has an harrowing experience.

I've never seen a cockroach in my life. In the 18 months my wife and I have been living in this apartment, I've never seen a cockroach.

But tonight, in the pantry, there was this fucking thing, about 1cm in length:

FUCK ME. FUCK THIS.

Is this a cockroach? Is it possible that it is some other kind of bug that is less heinous?

Also, if it is a cockroach, is it possible that there will only be one?

FUCK.

My god, GAFers are the biggest pussies when it comes to bugs.

Imo them roaches are one of the most benign insects, they don't bite or sting and they just move out of your way most times. Seem like cool folks, I used to let one chill on my windowledge and he never made me regret it.

LIAR :(

A cockroach will always land on you when in flight...

Roaches are completely harmless yes. Wait a minute? Can you get herpes from Roaches? Oh my God Op, you better move.

That's mostly bull to scare people. I'm not saying it's not possible or that it doesn't happen, but it's not they're preferred place (most people are able to wake up if they feel a roach walking in their face anyways, they're not as delicate as mosquitos).

Roaches are everywhere in my country (even in super clean apartments of OCD people), you can't run from them, but there's a couple of thing I've learned. 1 that they're harder to find if you live in a second floor apartment and up, the worst cases I've seen in the city are of those on regular one floor houses. 2 that they're mostly near kitchens (for food) or wherever they're entrance is (usually pipes, or if you live on the country side then pretty much everywhere), and they rarely enter bedrooms (so that eating your face scenario is not as likely). And 3, that if you want less roaches, don't let any food residue down the pipe where you wash the dishes (or at least not lots of it), tons of them live and feed down your sink pipes. Also, it's better to not leave any trash in the house at night (which is when they come out); take it out and let them have the party there, that way they're focus of attention will be away from you.

No it's not. I've seen it. They climb into all your orifices. They like anuses too. If your anus itches and you have cockroaches, guess what. Your anus got roached.

Used to live in Taiwan, where I quickly discovered that the island is some kind of haven for cockroaches. It was shocking at first, but after the second week of seeing literally several dozen cockroaches a day I got used to it. It also doesn't matter where you go, or how high - from streets, to restaurants, to the 10th floor of an apartment... you'll still find them.

As someone else pointed out though, they are pretty harmless, just gross; they usually try to get out of your way.

Although once on the way back from a 7-11 a winged one jumped / flew into my face...

After an eternity of warfare; my family and I have found the most effective way of taking care of roaches and the likes: Boric Acid.

It was what Google/The Internet recommended as the most effective solution and I tried it after all else more or less failed. It works because it eats out their exoskeleton and keeps them from breeding as well. They sell it as a powder in every corner store here in NY; I tried it and we have been roach free for 2 years now; that is a huge feat as we've dealt with them my whole life.

Boric acid is apparently used as Pink Eye medicine and is inert. It is much safer to have around place than salt for example.

Consider yourself lucky that's the kind of shit you deal with. I live in a wooded area in TN. I have to deal with all kinds of spiders, like Wolf Spiders, Brown Recluse and Black Widows. And centipedes that will make you shit yourself.

Just last night i was standing on my back porch letting my dog out and i felt something crawling on my leg and i look down and it was a pretty big spider and i nearly shit myself. And yeah, i know Wolf Spiders aren't the most dangerous but have you fucking seen one? Goddamn nightmare fuel.

Fuck this city.

My building is a roach motel, it's horrible. Although it's gotten a LOT better in the years I've lived here, I still see roaches in the hallways sometimes. Occasionally they'd evict a tenant and find like billions of roaches and bring in the exterminators, and suddenly that floor has a flood of roaches heading every which way.

Since then, they've gotten better and occasionally have had mandatory full building sprays. Now I don't see them as much around, and basically never see them in my apartment.

When they WERE prolific in my apartment though (god it was the worst), I had so much trouble dealing with them, until I found out about Fipronil. I found a product in my city that had this in it, and put this shit all over my apartment.

It was kind of satisfying, but really gross, the amount of dead roaches that ended up everywhere. Since then, like 2 and a half years ago, I've seen maybe 3 roaches, and every time I do I put down some more of the stuff.

For maximum effects, use Boric acid as well! I didn't need it, but I know of other people who have used boric acid and had it work for them.

"Know Your NOPE"

I wish I knew the name of this fucker so I could post a pic, but I got nothing other than my shitty recollection so here goes...

Anyone ever seen a black house bug that was about the size of a dime (maybe a little smaller) with wings and a thorax with some sort of twitching, pulsating "tail" thingy? It almost looks like a short little stinger but none of the bugs I've encountered have shown much interest in stinging. Almost ant-like in appearance if an ant had functional wings. They dart around erratically and do not die easily. Seriously, you can stomp on it three or four times with boots and it'll still keep going.

No cockroaches in Newfoundland thank Jebus! Some asshat brought European earwigs in years ago and now were infested. They are super hard to kill and hang out in clusters of 50-100. Luckily they like it outdoors....mostly.

i had a daisy plant in my backyard, and every year when it blooms, 1000s of earwigs will hang out on the flowers, drinking nectar from it all day long. i had to remove that plant.

and this is why I don't kill spiders or lizards. We used live in a shitty apartment complex infested with german roaches when I was kid. They feared no one would gladly strut around during the day they were horrible. We moved years ago and how we have the huge diving bombing bastards from hell. They always fly right at you kamikaze style so you have to knock them out of the air like king kong swatting planes then give them the boot. When you give them the boot you need to hear that loud popping noise cause if you don't its still alive and will run off.

Fought roaches in our new home for a few months, then did the boric acid method.

Works like a charm, though remember that you have to keep it out for a while to make sure you kill off any babies that haven't begun roaming the house yet.

Depends. Some of the roaches in my apartment have been rather slow (until I've tried to kill them).

I've killed some bugs and they didn't move at all, all they did was move their antennas.
It's small, are there brown bugs besides cockroaches?

Sounds more like some regular bug (Heteropta?). Either way, better take a picture if possible, because if you have roaches no time must be wasted. Trust me, I live in a house where a guy two floors down ignored the problem for months, resulting in a massive infestation of the entire house.

I'm leaving in a month but my grandma doesn't want to believe it's cockroaches, I'm not sure what to do. I have no idea where they go during the day (I've only saw three since two days ago)

I'm also worried some of them get in my things when I go back home.

I don't know if I've replied to this thread or not, but....

The first time I ever saw a cockroach in real life was when I moved into my apartment. 27 years without having seen one, and then in the first few days of being in my new place, I see one. I didn't know what it was until I killed it and looked at it a little closer.

I had to Google image search it just to be sure :-/

So far, I've seen 4 of them in the last 6 months. First one was dead underneath one of my shoe (being eaten by ants! wtf). The second one was crawling on my bathroom floor. The third one was on a wall in the kitchen (holy shit, they can FLY??????) And the fourth one I killed the other day. It was stuck on its back like a drunk turtle. DERP.

Best thing you can do is take a picture/catch a specimen and ask an exterminator what it is (or GAF).

I've been told (by the exterminator) that it's not that easy/common for people to take roaches with them via a simple backpack/travel luggage (since eggs don't survive the transport). You could also simply check everything before you leave, which is what I do every morning before I leave with my backpack. One little roach alone causes no problems.
.

Thanks, how do you kill them without squashing them?

That's a cockroach alright.
Whatever you do, do not squash it (that's the beginning of the end if you do that, just throw in the toilets and flush.

With a bit of luck he was just lost. On the other it can also mean you have someone around you that has cockroaches issues... or your building, I sincerly hope not.
And yeah call the exterminator.

Each time I eat an apricot... I always hear my grandma telling me to be careful, because there might be an earwig coming out of it... I love apricots...
