It's been 5 years since the last console ZELDA was revealed. Is it time for another?

they banned me until June 10 I think.

Should be until they actually show the game. Anything less and s/he'll be back doing the exact same thing for every Nintendo event.

Update: Going by the art shown, it looks like the next console Zelda game will have an art style similar to Twilight Princess.

At the Shigeru Miyamoto roundtable tonight, it was revealed that an all-new entry in the Zelda series is in development. Only a small sampling of artwork was shown, including a picture of Link and what was possibly a Zora.

Okay, so now that E3 passed with no public Zelda reveal, WHEN is the next likely event where we'll see this game? What other events do "main" Zelda games get revealed at (I only know about the E3 ones)?

Well, there’s the Nintendo conference in October. And TGS at the end of November.

Then I'd say the chances for it being at one of those is EXTREMELY high, just going by dev cycle time and where they must be by now by all indicators (2 or 3 years of dev. already?). He wouldn't have bothered to show pornolink.jpg at this event unless it was on the cusp as is.

i have to imagine the reason we haven't seen a trailer is that they're building the engine from the ground up, and that the game will utilize motion+. if the TWILIGHT PRINCESS engine were going to be used again, surely they'd have pumped out something cinematic to showcase at e3.

After seeing Sony's tech demo of the sword and shield as well as the bow and arrow, I don't think I want to have a motion+ Zelda game.

The Sony tech demo looked awesome as hell, and I immediately realized that there is little to no chance that they could pull off anything near as good on the Wii hardware.

The ability to dynamically swing the sword and shield around and have the character on screen mimic your motions 1:1, and for the enemy to react to getting hit with non-canned animations seems like a bit much for the Wii.

I'm completely open to being surprised, but that demo made me realize how much I want good motion controls on powerful hardware.

i don't necessarily think the motion+ will be used for sword controls and all that, though i could definitely be wrong. the most obvious usage of that technology won't necessarily be the one they choose.

personally, i could do without the motion+ stuff, apart from maybe for the bow (which was maybe the best utilization of motion control in twilight princess; that bow was a beast)

I am curious to see how they may utilize Motion+. Maybe swinging the sword at a specific angle to activate a switch or something similar? Or for the jump slash attack, push the B button and slice the controller straight down (pointing forward)?

Yeah, the bow was certainly a monster :lol

The one thing I wanted out of Nintendo was a new Zelda game so I was a bit let down by no announcement. I do hope they attempt to take the series in a new direction, either stylistically or gameplay-wise.

If it were just Twilight Princess 2 I'd be fine as well...

...I guess what I'm saying is that I really want another Zelda game :lol

You beat me with the “I don’t think they will utilize the Motion+ for sword techniques.” I would think that is the main thing it would be used for.

i was let down too, a little. patience my son.

and a big yes to that last bit too. i just want fucking zelda so fucking badly.

i guess i just wonder if it would make anything really better. motion+ for puzzles and things like that could be really excellent, but in zelda--where combat has always been sort of secondary--i don't see how it would make a huge difference (again, besides the bow, which is total yes)

I think it could be another year before we see Zelda.

To help ensure the early success of the Wii Nintendo grouped together the release of most of their internally produced software; this is why the last year and a half has been relatively barren. However, now Nintendo has the luxury of flexibility when it comes to releasing software. The question of when Zelda will be revealed very much depends on how Nintendo is planning to space it's other hardware/software releases.

It would also be nice to have more information concerning how far along Pikmin and Retro's game are b/c I'm confident that their respective production timeframes will have a big impact on when Zelda is shown to the public and eventually released. Of course this is all speculation so we'll see what happens.

1:1 is somewhat overrated IMO. For some titles it makes perfect sense, like golfing or flying around an airplane. It seems like it would be a royal pain-in-the-ass for Zelda, though. The biggest benefit to Wii Motion + (to me) is a decreased chance of the thing incorrectly registering movements. Accuracy is good. 1:1 is not necessary.

Why do I get the feeling Miyamoto wanted to show Zelda at the conference, but was told not to because of two Mario games, Wii Fit/Sports sequels and Metroid already being there?
Apparently the game is already pretty far in development, so I think expecting it to show up this October isn't too far-fetched.

if i did not read that that was a zora, i would not for one second guess that it is a zora.. to me it looks more like a really odd reflection off link
Or the Fierce Deity sword on his back. It's really odd, and such an awful resolution isn't helping. I mean, what the hell?

they should have showed it anyway. it would have been like an infomercial where they keep stacking on the value.

"SO, you get the two marios, the metroid, and you still want more?"

The real question is: Which industry professional has a mobile phone bad enough to be taking pictures at 76×115?

lol. If it's real, then color me disappointed. I don't want another TP graphics/artstyle. Make it oil painting but with TP's artstyle and I can live with that. I just don't want to look at TP again. :(

Also, they haven't even incorporated M+ yet? The way how Shiggy says it, seems like depending on the success of the device, they're waiting on adding it to the new Zelda Wii. Nintendo better be coming up with some unique and innovating shit for the game.

From what I gathered from the roundtable scraps, it seems that Miyamoto didn't want to waste development time working on a demo for E3, since they already had so much to show. They could've shown a trailer though, but since he's already talking about demo's I think the game will be ready by fall 2010. Also Miyamoto loves spilling the beans these days, first Pikmin 3 and now Zelda. Too bad that he won't be able to form a proper Pikmin team with all these Mario, Metroid and Zelda games in development. It seems that Nintendo is working on alot right now!

I'm pretty sure that's not a Zora, and if it is, it's half Link and half Zora... and we all know what that means ;p

I think what Miyamoto said about waiting to see how well M+ performs before committing to make Zelda require its use is due to his nature of speaking in an indirect manner. If you combine that comment with what he said about the similarity of the archery and sword fighting in Resort with Zelda it doesn't mesh at all.

With regards to innovation you'd have to be pretty myopic to assume that the Zelda team hasn't taken notice of EAD Tokyo's success. They've yet to design a game from the ground up for the Wii so I can imagine they're working pretty hard to 1-up Mario Galaxy.

I said wow
Wow... Seriously, GAF?

They said it was a blue-robed figure in front of link. It seems pretty clear that it's a blue-robed figure looking outward (toward the viewer) and slightly to the right, eyes hidden by shadow. By contrast, Link has his bank to the viewer and is facing left.

Am I the only one who sees it? =/

I got bored halfway through Twilight Princess and stopped playing. Nintendo needs to show the goods. My Zelda hype died after that so let's hope they do something new instead of more of the same

I still am in shock that a Zelda game was not shown in some form during the conference. Hell, I would have been happy with a Wii port of Wind Waker with some wiimote integration. Something. Anything.

Artwork means very little and makes a 2011 release seem much more likely. For there to be potentially 5 years in between TP and another Zelda game when TP was clearly designed for the Cube would be an embarassment.

Seems to me that the star of this show for Nintendo was Mario. They will probably focus on Zelda next time they have a big conference.

No, I know. They gave us a little bit of info about Zelda Wii. Not a lot, but it's still an announcement.
That's what scares me. This is exactly like Pikmin 3 last year. So currently Zelda Wii == Pikmin 3 == Shovelware. And I give it a frak at this thread!

They released art for Zelda though. Pikmin 3 got nothing except a forced mention of the game.

Welcome back. You caused many lulz here on GAF, so your banning was not in vain. =P

As for the artwork, does anyone else think the blue figure looks like an anthropomorphic Master Sword?
