It's just me or are Youtubers getting boring?

I like watching KimJustice's videos as they are really well researched retro pieces, and I still watch James Rolfe as he's about the same age as me and grew up on the same stuff, although I like his film reviews more.

If youtubers were around when I was a kid I would definitely have watched loads, as we were desperate for games media of any sort back then, limited to a handful of magazines and a couple of tv shows a month. Near infinite 'lets plays', of games I couldn't afford on my pocket money and paper round, would have been very cool. These days I have limited time for my hobby but money is less of an issue, so I'd rather spend those few hours playing the games I want rather than watching people with internet personas scream their way through something I'd rather be playing instead. Zero interest in all the reaction videos to reaction videos social media drama either. /Skinner no, 'it's the children who are wrong' jpeg.

Youtube is all the same nowadays. I only watch like 4 channels. Nothing is fresh anymore. I miss when I would discover something new everyday back in it's early years.

Videogame analysis and criticism is probably the best it's ever been on YouTube, with a lot of choices to select from. The earlier stuff, in the Yahtzee era, was pretty mixed at best, but some good stuff has come out since Matthewmatosis and Super Bunny Hop got big.

For more casual game journo stuff, a lot of people have followed the example of Giant Bomb style of putting personality first. Of these, I like Easy Allies group, though I haven't been tuning in lately.

Someone please tell me of some good black YouTubers that do reviews, analysis, news, etc? I'm tired of seeing negroes who only stream sport games and shooters, and do reaction vids.

Satchbag's Goods as a channel is pretty great when it covers games, but doesn't have that many nor does he upload that often.

I guess a few have been entertaining, but overall they are way too self-absorbed and long for my tastes. (Ie I have no interest in hearing anyone speak about anthinf for more than 20 minutes maybe 30 and that's on important sheet, let alone video games). Honestly, it actually bothers me how long some of these sessions are.
I honestly don't have much issue with longer vids.

I had a period where I was watching a few different lets plays for a couple of months. That wore off fairly quick. I pretty much only watch Vinesauce now sometimes. Vinny is a pretty chill guy and he makes for good background noise. I do enjoy some informative vids though and speedruns, though I don't watch any specific person for that.

It's such a minor thing really, but this bloody trend of reaction thumbnails is really making me hate youtube.

Look at this bollocks. 'OH HO HO you'll never believer what CRAZY shit goes down in this video! Look at my reaction, it's wild, don't you wanna see how wild stuff gets in here?'

Then you watch the video and fucking nothing happens.

I think you may be ignoring a bunch of blossoming content that's different from what you're used to. People like Satchell Drakes for example create incredibly well made content that's both thought provoking and entertaining.

I occasionally watch Dunkey, and Vinny & Joel on Vinesauce once in a while. They are pretty chill, and they dont do any dumb face cam shit. It's just about the games.

I've completely lost interest in Two Best Friends at this point. I don't know what it is. Loved 'em for years, then over the past 6-8 months just kinda gradually started to lose interest until I stopped watching them and listening to the podcast completely.

I feel the same way. I pretty much listen to their podcasts exclusively now. I think I just outgrew lets plays. That said, I do enjoy their yearly horror game marathon in October. I watch that every year.

Mega64 are the only gaming related Youtubers that I haven't fallen off on, and I don't think I ever will. I love their creativity.

Well-edited and scripted videos focused on certain subjects have always been more interesting than the garden variety let's player on youtube.

This is so damn true. Nothing wrong with Let's Plays but I find videos that are scripted and well thought out much more enjoyable to watch, and as someone who makes YouTube videos myself, much more fulfilling to work on.

I'm in the same boat. I've tried LP's, I've tried reviews but none of them were either fulfilling or successful. My recent work has been both, which is great!

Could you link your channel, I'd be interested to see what you've got!

The only video game related videos I watch these days are

Easy Allies (Team Huber)
Ecomog Strugglenation (these guys aren't serious or anything. They do react videos while in character and it's hilarious to me)

That's it. Maybe a Dunkey video every now and then. But overall yeah, it's pretty boring

Nah, some of them are great while some are boring/ terrible.

AVGN/ James Rolfe still rocks
Rocket Beans is amazing (okay, they're not really youtubers but still)
Easy Allies is good fun
PDP is entertaining for most of the time
PBG and ProJared are great imo

So yeah, I can't complain.

To me YouTube is more entertaining now than it's ever been. Production values are higher and new and refreshing creators are jumping on the scene. I think most people are falling out of YouTube content just because their tastes have changed.

With YouTube there's so many creators and so much content that it's not too hard to find something for you. There's plenty of content that doesn't resort to overreactions, clickbait thumbnails ect

Most of my youtube time is Rocketbeans, EpicNameBro and some specific stuff I'm looking for.

I barely ever watch videos from subscribed channels anymore, they all look samey.

Maximilian is the -only- streamer I watch, and only on YouTube. The edited videos are snappy, funny, and informative, but the stream itself is prone to all the dull spots mentioned here.

Edit - also, everyone here should be watching noclip. It's the best VG content online, bar none.

I second your thoughts on Inside Gaming compared to Funhaus. It feels like they instantly reduced their target demographic to your average six year old when they made that move, and became your typical YouTube content provider as a result.

Easy Allies are starting to lose my interest as well tbh.

DYKG is still pretty cool though.

They were never interesting.

Seriously, I never got the appeal. I spend my time actually playing the games instead of watching someone else play.
Pretty much, although there are some gems amongst all the rust.
I don't really follow any Let's players but I do follow specific gaming channels because I enjoy their reviews. LGR, Classic Game Room, gggmanlives, and Metal Jesus. My friend often shows me videos of great analysis videos but I don't really follow them.
I will always be thankful for Metal Jesus. He showed me the hidden gem Kim Possible: What's the Switch? PS2 exclusive. That game was a fantastic 2.5D platformer which really reminded me of Klonoa. Deserves all the success he's getting for all the quality uploads over the years.

Love Max. He so much fun to watch cuz he loves what he does.

Funhaus is the only channel i watch but sometimes it gets really unbearable eg: James and Bruce talking about rape or other bizarre things that you'd probably get arrested for saying in public.

I wish they'd go back to only playing bad games like Chaser. Also there's no need for so many GTAV online videos a week. So boring.

i'm stuck in a circle of hell where i love reaction videos but i hate about 90% of reaction videos which is mainly *EXCITED SCREAMING BLOWING OUT THE MIC, INCOHERENT BABBLE*

maybe it's more like, I want personalities I already know doing react vids rather than internet randos which almost all just float on hype

HEY! Thanks.

giphy.gif

do more react vids!

ask your mate to stop gibbering incoherently during react vids!

The only gaming related channel i watch is Gamexplain tbh.

Rest is just checking out gameplay or listen to soundtrack or trailers.

I've unsubscribed from all individual YouTubers, all just a waste of time. They, for some annoying reason, start vlogging and put out less and less content like they used to. Then they do crappy videos like markiplier and pewdiepie so I just block them alltogether.

I've kept with groups, gameranx, the know, gaming historian, 8 bit guy etc. Thats more interesting and they don't turn their channels into a social vlog.

I don't watch let's plays either, as I find them extremely dramatised. Instead just watch no commentary gameplay when I want to see how a game is.

Man I hate this shit as well. Sadly it works.

My biggest issue with YouTube is the options available to discover new things. I can't even find really big and popular channels without knowing their name in advance. Trending is always hit and miss...

As far as YouTubers go, I only really keep up with Etika, Maximilian, Vesper, & sometimes Easy Allies these days.

This guy is one of the worst offenders. Every thumbnail has his dumbass face with his mouth gaping wide open like he's seen some amazing shit.

His stream is even worse where he has bells and whistles going off every 3 seconds for donations and subs. He's like the master of fake "hype d00d".

Considering your post history, I almost had some sympathy to your concerns. But now...

When I was a kid I used to watch a lot of gaming youtubers. I used to watch that more than TV, was addicted for like a year. Now I don't watch that shit at all apart from Dunkey.

Shit just gets old after a while.

Man I feel old.

Youtubers and viewers are feeling, for the1st time, the effects of public rejection. That's why TV channels invest so much in new content every year. You grow stale and people grow tired of you.

That's normal in personal and in businnes life. That's why it's healthy to decrease the amount of repeated content you create every year. Imagine people's fatigue with Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty.

The problem is that youtube is a product created everyday. It's much more easier to grow tired of it. That's why Youtubers will flock in the long run. Only those who use their cash to create big sites, like IGN with many employes creating diverse content, will prevail.

I'm growing tired with cettain formats and personalities. 1+ hour long reviews/analyses, Nostalgia Critic style """reviews""", counterproductive drama talk/industry analysis, etc. I've been watching the same formats and personalities for near a decade now and it does get very samey. It's one of the reasons why I don't think Youtube as a career for most will work in the long term.

My favorite channel right now has to be Super Bunnyhop, he doesn't stick to one "thing", has a subdued personality that doesn't wear thin and edits his videos well.

Uh ok? It's the same shit everyone else says about you so continue to ignore it I guess? I don't really care as I wasn't expecting you to change in some way from a random post. Keep doing you bud.

Lmao. Nothing against the Max guy but thumbnails like these turn me off.

Welcome to 90% of YouTube.

Rainbow hued background
Bold white or yellow letters
Dumb rage face of YouTuber
All letters of title all in caps.

It's the golden recipe to attract kids like moths to a flame.

Yes , just like Twitch. Feels like there's not many personality type of people.

It makes it feel like you can expect what you are going to see before clicking play.

Popular Lets Plays have become too samey and predictable overall on top of the whole ad stuff holding people back. I mostly prefer heavily edited stuff like streamer highlights and channels with less ad friendly humour these days and I'm having a blast.

The only gaming related Youtube videos I watch with any regularity are Jeremy Parish's Retronauts Video Works stuff.

Everything else I've tried to watch bores me to tears.

They were never interesting.

Seriously, I never got the appeal. I spend my time actually playing the games instead of watching someone else play.

Exactly. Watching someone else play has always been one of the most boring things imaginable. That anybody finds it entertaining is beyond my comprehension.

I always expected I would be terrified and baffled of the upcoming generation, not baffled and bored by them.
