Seriously man, this is all you need.
"Smooth Blast" by old Spice is fucking fantastic.
I've been using old spice for years, it's never steered me wrong.
Agreed. Cologne smells fuckin gross.

all this shit looks crazy expensive

On average, I pay about 30 dollars a bottle. 30x22 = $660. Not too bad, there are more expensive hobbies. I've done almost all my purchasing either second-hand, on Amazon during the kickass sale last winter, or at Marshalls/TJMaxx. And I'm huge into designer scents for day-to-day wearing - I haven't found many niche scents I'd want a bottle of. Many niche scents I like to smell and appreciate, and maybe wear around the house, but when I go out, I want to smell good and wear age-appropriate scents. (I'm 19)

putting on cologne is a hobby?

When it's at the level that I do it at, yeah. I'll go out shopping just in the intent of smelling new scents, I post regularly on a cologne-centric forum, and it's something that I get a lot of personal enjoyment and pride out of. I have decants and samples of many, many other scents, those are just the ones I own full bottles of.

ok i can see that
lots of people have "weird" hobby's but if it makes you happy more power to ya:D

hey, as long as the guy isn't putting it all on at once :lol

I can see it as kind of a hobby. A connoisseur of smells, I guess? even if I'm not trying to impress, I like catching whiffs of it coming off myself.

I'm getting a bit hooked myself-- I got my Guerlain about a month ago, which made me appreciate a good cologne. Burberry Beat came a few weeks later and now I'm starting to save up for Creed Himalaya.

I tried that once. I put a spray of everything I owned into a decant bottle, mixed it up, then sprayed it around. Everything just kind of blended together, and I smelled like Sephora all day long. :lol

As far as hobbies go colognes ain't so bad. It's not like he's drinking the stuff.

This has been my cologne for a while, although I'm finally nearing the end of the bottle:

On my to-buy list for sure, along with regular XS. I've never understood that box though ... it's a little off-putting for a masculine scent, especially one that was advertised to "bad boys" at launch. It's no wonder they've changed the box. :lol

For the OP - if you want a bottle of Himalaya but don't want to spend the cash, regular XS is a close enough substitute. I also feel that way about Unforgivable Multi-Platinum and Millisime Imperial. However, I can never understand anyone who says Cool Water is a substitute for Green Irish Tweed. Yeah, they were done by the same perfumer, and they smell similar. But Green Irish Tweed is just so much more refined, they're in a different class all-together.

Strange that I feel that way about one of the "big" Creeds, but not the others. Oh well.

I've been using the same bottle of Claiborne's Curve for almost four years, now. I still think it's great.

Curve is great. It's a bit overused, but it's one of those scents that can smell wildly different from person to person. I have a tiny, tiny bottle of it, and don't use it that often, but it's always pleasing. The amount of flankers there are to Curve are kind of hilarious - there's gotta be at least 15 Curve (insert name here)'s, and none of them stand up to the original.

Right now I gots

I also wanted to get CK's Crave, Burberry's The Beat and Amor Amor for men. I have a thing for this stuff... (too bad I'm fucking poor right now :( )

Got this for Christmas one year. It does smell pretty great, I can't lie.

But I still stand by that cologne is too expensive just to make yourself smell good. Not to mention most people put on too much and then it has the opposite desired effect. Just some fine smelling deodorant is all you need. It makes you smell nice, and keeps you from sweating. What more could you ask for?

I've never liked the smell of any cologne, so I use girly fruity body mist.

Maybe I'm just not trying the right colognes? I don't know.

There are nearly three dozen bottles pictured in this thread, which one are you referring to? ;)
Haha, sorry, just meant on average.

Mamesj said:
They range and each kind comes in different sizes. Creed might be the most expensive stuff posted so far (but I'm not totally familiar with all of it...) Of the stuff I posted:

--2.7oz bottle of Guerlain Homme - retails at $80, but I got in on amazon for $55
--3.3oz bottle of Burberry the Beat - retails at $72 and I had to pay full price 'cause it just came out.
I also have a 2.5oz of Polo Black - retails at $51.99, got it for $35, I think.

The first two bottles will easily last at least the rest of the year and probably much longer. I do a spray or two before work and one spray when I'm not working. I've had the Polo Black for about a year and it's only half finished, I don't really wear it anymore now that I have this new stuff though.

Cologne doesn't really get discounted until it's been out for a while, after that you can find deals online. Stores like Neiman Marcus never discount the stuff, especially since the good scents tend to be timeless-- people just won't stop buying stuff by Polo, Burberry, Hugo Boss, Armani, etc. Some go out of style...I think Lagerfield Photo, Drakkar Noir, and Brut all used to be more popular in the 80s/90s.
This is the answer I was looking for. Seems kind of pricy, but if it lasts for a year that's not too bad.

One of those scents that just seems to change and evolve throughout the day as it sits on your clothes or body. I remember trying it out at the department store, liking it, and then noticing it throughout the day as it...changed. :lol

It's amazing.

I hate wearing cologne, but the right perfume on women in the right amounts will drive you crazy.
No, I haven't smelled it before but I will look for it the next time I'm at the mall. Though for some reason they don't have a tester of Hypnotic Poison so they may not have a tester for Midnight Poison.

I've always had a thing against cologne. I think it stems from the high school locker room where the air was always saturated with axe. I hate that shit and haven't considered wearing anything but deodorant since. I'd like to hear some stats on what girls' opinions are of cologne.

Axe=/=cologne.

goddam.

Of course. But you can see how walking through the purfume/cologne section of the mall would remind me of a locker room. I like a touch of perfume on girls, but most cologne smells too chemically to me.

My favourite because it smeels different to the generic cologne. Slighly woody/fruity.

GF loves this one though.

I know what you mean. I hate walking into locker rooms and smelling that shit; but with cologne, you gotta be subtle. Don't drench yourself with the stuff, just lightly spray it on yourself. It'll payoff in the end.

Try some Armani and other higher grade stuff like that, they don't smell chemical at all.

goddam.

ewwww! that's awesome though, haha

This. It's amazing to me that cologne is still considered acceptable in the eyes of women, considering how many guys take a bath in it. It always seems to be the strongest stuff that gets abused, too...like L'eau D'Issey for example, I typically go for exactly one spray on the neck. Anything more is overkill, at least on my skin.

Mind you, that's an extreme example in terms of cologne strength, and it always varies based on how the stuff reacts with an individual's skin, but still. Dudes slinging those bottles around their body like an Axe fiend have got it all wrong.

I wish Irish Spring made a cologne. I'd wear that all day. I love the soap smell I have when I get out of the shower. Wish it would last all day. Is there a cologne that has a soap-ish scent to it? Irish Spring and Coast Pacific Force are my favorite soaps. If something out there smells like that.....:D

Colognes I like right now are Cool Water and Chrome.

That's so cool! :lol

I have Armani Code Black which I wear once in a while. Still have bottles of Kenneth Cole Black that I'm working through (my first cologne ever). I can only do mild scents. Anything more and I'll have a migraine headache all day. It just kills me.

Le Male by JPG. Swear to God that there's not a chick who doesn't love the smell or a chick who won't go out of the way to say how much they love it when you bring it up.

I use whatever I find smells nice (e.g. the above-mentioned Blue Water), but my default would be a German Eau de Cologne, namely 4711 - coincidentally produced in Cologne, Germany.

I'm probably too young for this as nobody in my age bracket uses this stuff, only the old farts do. That however kind of fits my miser attitude. ;)

I got a bottle as a joke gift when I was a youngster, and it kind of stuck with me. Same with my choice of shaving (no plastic or electric toys) and various other lifestyle issues; I'm a dinosaur, so to speak.

Bonus content: Look at this. 4711 is neogaf-themed!

I don't think it's quite the soap scent you're looking for, but you may want to check out Prada's cologne regardless, you might like it. I had a sampler tossed to me recently, and the reviews that peg the scent as "expensive soap" are definitely spot-on.

I use Code. What's the difference between Code and Black code?

Also, which cologne last the longest?

Code is really nice. I spray just behind the ears and it lasts a while, but I was looking for something that lasts a bit longer.
